  1. I hate people asking me about my spots! I fish the rocks and i fish them in anything from calm to dangerous conditions depending on my target species. I do have some experience though and pretty well know what i'm doing there. What gets me is that i put in a lot of effort as a lot of you guys do to get the fish. I found most of my spot x's by sounding around in my old baot, getting out the gregory's and my shoes and walking and walking and climbing around to find a spot. Even if all i heard a smidgen about from some old timer etc about a spoit that used ot be good in 1965. Now i just invested $50 or MORE in fuel, 6hrs walking around to find maybe one spot. Now i'm going to draw somebody a map? YEAH RIGHT! What also gets me is that somebody thinks that all they need is the spot anyway and majically fish will throw themselves on the hook, not fight and jump on land for them! YEAH thats how all the 30kg Jew and Kings get caught, people throw in smelly black prawns on 6lb handlines and low and behold a Snapper majically appears in the esky. I also beleive heavily in people serving an aprenticeship so to speak and learning the basics. I mean i see it on the rocks all the time. People rock up to live bait cause they heard it works well but they have no idea on how to even catch a bream or a flattie or even a yakka. Yet they want to chase Big Kingies and Marlin with ***** combo's! I'm not saying it's not possible to do that by the way, just highly unlikely and i'm sure that a lot of us that come back with regular catches know that you MAKE your OWN luck in fishing by having the right tools for the job and being there at the right time! Anyway thats my rant. Honestly mate its your spot, tell these guys where to go! Actually give them this address, guaranteed catch Bank St (cnr Pyrmont Bridge Road).
  2. LOL should have seen my pack 3weeks ago mate, i bottommed out 25kg scales! and that wasn't including my rods!
  3. Roosterman are you prepared to go out time after time, filling up swimming pools of water, catching live bait, upgrading your tackle to something more along the lines of a GAME reel (TLD50 with 24kg line, TLD 30 and 15kg line or north coast style light game reel with 10kg line) walking with 20+kg of gear on your back through the bush. then waiting then waiting then hooking up fighting a fish for 30mins of complete back breaking hell and adrnalin to lose it at the gaff? Then a couple of times a season, if you put in the serious time, effort and back breaking work maybe just maybe taking a few BIG fish home? Well if you are then check your p.m.
  4. Mate at the tubes its much better to fish a float rather than a balloon, balloons have a nasty habit of catching lines when they drift by. Also i hope you have your gum boots on as the track to the tubes with any rain is like a creek 20cm deep that you have to trudge through for 20mins, then the bush starts and you'll be on that for a bit more as well, then you will probably get nice and muddy going down the steep bit to get down there. Good luck though, I know i have done it before in those conditions, didn't get anything though, dirty water. By the way when i got my LBG medium LBG reel (Tyrnos 30) this year i put 80lb braid on it. It did 3 trips and i took it all off! It broke at 15kg which p'd me right off and it dug in on itself and when it touched the rocks it got damaged so easily. I now run 44lb mono on it and i have approx 550-600m on it and recomend mono over braid ANY DAY on the rocks for live baiting.
  5. Mate how much did he cost if you don't mind me asking?
  6. Hey lighthouse was that this year?
  7. I would tell your mate to start surfing the net or to put his boots on and go for a hike. I have also never ever ever heard of a 256kg beakie being taken by anybody, anywhere, especially on a TLD50. Has he got any pics to prove it. Sorry to sound negative but man 256Kg land based on a TLD50 is just nuts as i have seen what a 130kg fish does to a tiagra full of 24!

    Avoca Rocks

I have seen every nationality just about do stupid things at Avoca and other places. The guy in the chair was XXXXX, the little girl and her parents were XXXXX, both guys that did the splits were XXXXX. I was there 3 weeks ago, in a rising 1.5m NE swell a crew of XXXXX XXXXX rocked up and fished it for tailor at night with no safety gear at all as me and a mate were leaving. In fact i have seen more people of XXXXX descent wearing the right gear than most other nationalities. booties / cleats, life jackets / self inflating PFD's. guys one more thing, i hate to get politicall but the anti fishing guys do use spots like Avoca and all spots to try and ban people from fishing. Everybody needs to take there mess home with them from everywhere they fish! I was part of a crew that cleaned up a well known and under threat LBG platform as part of clean up australia day to raise awareness that not all fisherman are grubs. There was a pair of guys fishing there of Korean descent and when they saw what we were doing the guy donned some gloves, grabbed a bag and helped clean just as hard as we were. Multi language signs asking people to pick up there rubish in my opinion WILL work. Not on all people, but on a lot of people. This is something we should do up and down the coast on all popular rock and general fishing spots. Guys we need to change the image of our sport! As fisherman we need to be known as people that care about and have a vested interest in the environment! Right now, unfortunately, we are known as a group of environmental vandals and a headache for most councils and national parks.

    Avoca Rocks

Head down there on a cyclone swell and if you even see the rocks i would be very surprised! I remember once i went there in a 2m+ NE swell, the swell was sporadically hitting the back of the cliffs. I will never forget this moron that was sat in a chair getting hit with water while pissed thinking he was having a good time and he was a hero. I was talking to a couple of the regs down there and we were in shock! We all agreed that day that if he went in he deserved it 100%. I left 30mins later as it was completely unfishable. Man that guy was a tool. It happenned about a year ago to the day and if you read this post mate, well your lucky.

    Avoca Rocks

Stylo the only reason it wasn't that messed up is that a 2.6m southerly swell blew the place apart 2 days earlier and would have literally washed everything off the rocks into the ocean. I was there on Thursday before it came threw and took about half a rubish bag of other peoples S**T out with me. i'm glad you were carefulkl and read up on the dangers of the spot. some people have that she'll be right and it won;t happen to me attitude. Well here's a news flash for them. MOTHER NATURE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THERE BRAVADO and when she wants SHE"LL TAKE EM. Seriously i have seen so many injuries on the rocks by people doing dumb things, running from smallish water over slime with sneakers only to fall and almost get washed in as they splash around in a foot of water like a mullet on the bank. doing the SPLITS when they slip on the slime, very funny to watch that was, seen it twice now at Avoca , and the countless sprained ankles by fisherman and sight seekers alike! One of the worst was that poor little girl, man that was a massive hit to the back of her head, i tried to tell her parents to stay of the slime but off they go walking strait over it again to get out!

    Avoca Rocks

Mate all i can say about that spot is BE CAREFULL! That spot has KILLED so many people its not funny. thats why there are plaques where you begin to go in and i tell you there used to be more and if you had a plaque for every person that dies there it would cover the whole corner as you walk in. If you don't have the right footwear you can slip and crack your head open in no time at all! And you went on a VERY flat day, with any sort of swell waves can and DO reach the very back of the cliffs. In fact 50% of the time where most people were sitting and having a merry old fish they would be underwater. this This is not a spot for the person that wants to rock up and give it a shot. this is a serious rock fishing spot that can do you a lot of damage. Sorry to sound pesemistic i love the spot to death but i have seen too many people break arms and legs from slipping, heard of too many people DYING and have seen too many people sittin on the rocks with split open heads from walking on the slime. In fact on the sunday you went i was there and i saw a girl no older than 10 slip on the slime and land smack on her head, i heard it from 5 meters away and felt sick in the guts. p.s if your new to rock fishing don't even think about going there in the dark, thats the surest way to KILL yourself as you slip and even a small wave drags you into the ocean. I have heard of at least 4 people dying there in the last 3 years like that! BE CAREFULL!
  12. Mate i had legs like that once. They were sandflies and the only thing that stops them is tropical strength insect repellant and even then i wouldn't bother. The itch will drive you mad in a few days if it isn't already, for those that know about sandflies they know i mean MAD when i say it. The only thing that had any effect for me at all was an antihistamine from the chemist, i took the greeny coloured TELFAST brand and i swear by it. I think it was the most expensive but as i said you either don;t care by now or won't very soon so go and get it. Calamine lotion also helps to stop the itch. Good luck, P.S if you know for a fact that they are not bites you might just have the pox or measles so go to the doctor and get checked out ASAP as its not fun for an adult and could even kill you.
  13. Yep and as hard as it is to say as i have always been a die hard labour supporter for federal ( i voted shooters party in the last state election) I would vote coalition for sure in the next election. I also think Labour have gotten a bit comfortable and corrupt in state government in NSW and frankly don't deserve to be there anymore.
  14. I didn't read all the responces but if they exempted rec fisherman from Marine Parks i would vote liberal for the first time EVER in state politics and I know tens of people that would do that as well. As far as i'm concerned they have taken it too far to even ask to be able to double fines and "move boundaries without consultation" who the hell do they think they are!

    Jb Tips

If your going to fish it stay at least 150m away from the rocks when your downrigging and if you see people waving franticall go where they tell you as it means somebody has a prize fish on. Remember some of these fish can be up to 1km from the rocks and attached to somebody's line so please spare a thought for the Land based guys that walk in for 1-2hrs over hills, rope down cliffs and are up all night getting bait for the chance to maybe get a hook up. Just letting you know as i have experienced some really bad etiquet around those parts. Not saying your going to do it but i just thought to let you know. P.S good luck and hope you get a nice one and stay away from the damn marine parks, they effect all of us fisherman and they are just going to get worse.
  16. Stick with the breakwalls and bag out on tailor. Forget the island its too hard as you have to walk on the sand and it gets everywhere and sometimes you get stranded on high tide. Much better to just fish the breakwall or Hill 60 as they are easy to get to and safe. Bonnies arn't here yet, maybe another month or so i reckon.
  17. I voted for the sporting shooters and they got 2 seats and they will fight against this stupidity. I tell you what though i have my own personal line in the sand and if they take any of 3 rock ledges away from me i have decided that i will fish any ledge i want and if i need to go to court over it i will, this really gets under my skin, really really badly. Hell i have obided by all the fisheries laws all my life, i have seen an inspector once in 10 years and i reckon they will go too far if they impose what they want to do!

    Hoodlums

Hey Injay how you doing. Mate all i can say is that sometimes they will do that. The only thing that i have found to work on something like that is a whole super fresh unweighted squid with two big 9/0 hooks in it. Or a yakka live spun in front of em. But other than that sometimes they arn't in the mood.
  19. Guys seriously I have decided that other fishermen don't really care what happens and that fisheries don't really care about what happens with us either. I am basing this on the fact that as soon as i put up this post in the main forum it was moved here. I have also decided that i will vote with my pen and completely badger anybody that so much as mentions a peep about losing a spot if they didn't vote for the alternative cause its too f'n hard to fill out all the little boxes. As far as i'm concerned if you don't vote for what you want then you dont want it bad enough, so TOUGH! I bought a licence as soon as they came out, full of optimism! Now i really don't care for them, and am seriously considering not buying another licence. I will vote with my pen and my wallet. Everybody else can winge and whine but i have never been much for that, better to take action!
  20. Spot on with that Injay, it won't be long till places like clifton gardens, balmoral wharf etc are targeted as well cause of some obscure species that nobody has ever caught there. Guys seriously look at who you vote for in this election in the senate, there is no use whining about these issues if we don't put our money where our mouths are! or more importantly vote for what we beleive in! if you don't vote then you don't exist as far as the polies are concerned! Use your vote to get what you want!
  21. Hi Guys Not sure if this is the right place to put a topic like this but as the election is only 2wks away i thought somebody should start this topic as its really important! Basically i think we should all think about who we will vote for in the senate. First of all let me start by saying i am not telling any of you guys how to vote and who to vote for in the upper house, liberal, labour whatever its up to you. In the senate though i think we should all look at supporting some parties that will be able to compete with the greens and if not get our ledges back at least stop this madness of lockouts from getting worse. Its gonna take a bt more time but it'll be worth it in the end. Basically in my opinion there are two parties that I know of that will all hold together and have indicated as such, the shooters party an the fishing party. I'm also a shooter and feel very proud that in the NSW state election we got 2 seats! the greens got 4, but hey its a start and 2 is better that 0! Guys basically i'm gonna take the time to fill all 25 boxes on the bottom. I really don't care much for the middle but i tell you shooters 1 and fishing 2 for me and Greens dead last! If we all do this then we have a descent chance! If you know anybody else thats effected i.e shooters, 4x4 drivers, boaters even mates that go outdoors once a year. Imagine taking your family on a holiday, throwing in a line and copping a fine cause 2mths ago somebody made an area a marine park! you might have fished their with your dad and grandpa all your life and now you can't! Is that fair cause a few want to impose their will on all the rest? SPREAD THE WORD, we all know we actually have the numbers to beat the greens, here's where we can prove it. Just fill in the bottom part, it takes longer but you won't get these greens getting preferences they don't deserve! Think about it what's 5mins? Fill in the box and lets see hoe we go in getting some numbers in the senate! I'm also talking to my girlfriend, my family and friends. Guys think about it, its the upper house that gets the government, vote for whoever you want and whatever happens happens. BUT for the senate, who has to approve new laws and lockouts, fill in the 25 and block those greens out! let em know we have a voice, let em know its bigger and louder than their voice! Let em know we won't be pushed around anymore! p.s i think this should stay in this forum, its an important issue that needs exposure!
  22. Mate if your going with hungover novice fisherman STAY AWAY. Any ocean rock ledge is a bad idea for that mix and Avoca is no acception, there are enough plaques to the people that have passed at that ledge and no need to risk adding more. Hit the beaches or take em into brisbane waters for some bream and flatties, more fun, they can keep drinking at a much lower risk to their safety. Also avoca gets crouded, really really crouded, like shoulder to shoulder in summer and i find it aint worth it anymore! Thats why i only fish it in the rain / reasonably bad weather / weekdays when i can. p.s bad weather / rain cleats are a 1,000,000,000% MUST!
  23. Mate if your gonna fish Avoca make sure you got rock cleats and watch the swell as well. p.s not the best at the moment, i was there on saturday and all i got was a sunburn.
  24. Isn't it a no anchor zone off the tubes now with the marine parks? Mate i wouldn't be anchoring up of there even if it isn't though, there are fish everywhere in the bay, its no use parking just off the tubes.
  25. Wanted to know if there is anybody keen to head to one of the ledges in J.B for some LBG for kingies. Going to head down on Friday night / very early sat morning (ie 2am). Going to fish the rocks in the morning till about 11am and head back to Sydney. Its about a 40min walk in to the spot and gotta get there 1hr before sunrise to get live bait so its not going to be for everybody. If your keen let me know by tomorrow andwe can plan the details. The spot i'm going to fish is mainly a palaegic ledge so anybody else thats into LBG would be great. High tide is at 8am or so and i'm also going to have a bottom bait out for something as well. You don't have to do LBG just want to know if somebody wants to tag along and have a fish and split the fuel cost and have a chance to do some good rock fishing.
