  1. Formosan Yeah not a bad consolation prize I suppose but I will have nightmares about the big mother for a while. Not a jacket to be seen all day just not much happening. Heard you were out yesterday how did you end up? Ended up buying a shimano raider - Mexican fire. Bit longer in the butt and not as fast an action as the terez and rated up to 7kg. Sweet ride. Still got a ways before I can match it with Pete though... Johno
  2. Boys, went south yesterday and it was pretty quiet. Missed the early tide so started wide first up. Not much current and it turned into a cracking day, abeit the fish weren't overly co-operative. Got 2 pannies amongst some other rubbish. Went in close later on and burleyed and got a nice gummie. Missed a stonker! Pulled the hooks after about 5mins into the fight. Would have been a nice way to christen the new stradic/shimano raider combo. I'm sure I will have nightmares about that one for ages. Fished one bottom rig, floaters and plastics. Johno
  3. Butch very nice fish. Hopefully I will get down Hump way at the end of the week. Might even be better than Mikes fish last week. How long and how heavy Johno
  4. Boys Great vid and some nice reddies there. Still yet to have the beans to go exclusive with plastics but you guys are getting good results. Trying to get out on the weekend but the weather looks like its gonna beat us. How did the terez go? What pound braid were you runnning through it? Johno
  5. Hey Mike, Chicken Pete aint lookin to happy...you catch the trophies and he catches the pannies? Well done boys they are great fish. Geez that's a nice fish. That was me frothin on the phone yesterday. Whilst not a patch on yours here is one Pete and I got a couple of weeks ago. Johno
  6. Grant well done good to see you got amonst em. I should have taken a spoon full and gone east with Hammer n tongs on Thursday. Johno
  7. Boys was out there Thursday and to ensure you get em you will have to go wide of Heatons, I didn't and went nude. The temp break is now way east of Heatons (just checked). There was the odd fish east of Browns but there were not many caught in closer. See what is reported tonight... Johno
  8. Pete can you speak to Heather and convince her???
  9. Scaffsta One was on the troll don't know about the other one but appeared to be on lure also. Johno
  10. Boys, Got to Browns by 8am and managed to just get sharked. Started heading east at 10.30am for about 20nm. Saw 2 fish landed about 15nm of east Browns but that was about it. Cubed for an hour and a half on dark SE of Browns. Am I retarded or were they thinner on the ground than yesterday. Fishbones did you do any good? My call sign definitely applied today. Did anyone nail them? Damo? very despondent this evening. Johno
  11. Mate this one was on the bottom basher which is a bit unusual Johno
  12. Marty Congratulations on the yellowfin how heavy did it go. We went south as discussed, got six reds in an hour and a half then zero for the rest of the day. Wind and current going in opposite directions so it was a bit challenging. Biggest was bang on 3.5kg so given the conditions it wasn't a bad day. Johno
  13. Marty good luck. Will compare notes after the weekend. I just hope there is a decent run of YFT this year and/or the SBT hang around a little longer. Hope you smash em' Johno
  14. Boys tempted to go wide but I cant resist going down to the hump and seeing if any reds are about after all the swell and rain. Hope you brain it. Marty are you going to have a drop on Browns? I was out there a month ago but it was too early and only lost rigs on the bottom. Johno
  15. Boys The best way in my view to make an average fish taste good is to have ice on board (in your esky or kill tank) and throw in a bucket of salt water. This actually lowers the freezing point of the water making it extra cold. This is what the Japs do for sushimi and trust me it works. Then when you catch a fish bleed it straight away and throw it in. Mowies are good! Johno
  16. Hey mate, I always keep a couple of sambos for thai fish cakes. Get Rick Steins thai fish cake recipe. It is gold. Make sure you also make the dipping sauce and you will be hooked. Johno
  17. Boys was out there Saturday. very little current so could get to the bottom no dramas. Anyway 3 drops for 3 lost rigs. To top it all off, second drop the break aways didnt work and my braid broke near the top. Very annoying. Proceeded to spend the next 5 hours trolling for doughnuts. Saw 2 marlin being played. One right on Browns and a stripe of about 120kg to the east of Browns. One of those days I guess. Johno
  18. Hey Fishark, Not sure of the distance but was in about 135m or 74 fathoms and straight out from Kurnell. Johno
  19. Eroll. Got a wedding in the Hunter this weekend which is a bummer so no go for me at all this weekend. Funnily enough had my boat 12 months and just checked the engine hours i have clocked up. Bought it with 160 on the clock and up to 492 on the weekend. No wonder the boss hates the boat. Might try and do a phantom next week. With this rain i think the bigger kings will be pushed a little wider. All of the reports to date have been inside albeit spasmodic so lets see what happens. You going out this weekend? Johno
  20. Thanks Boys now we've all got to cool our heels while this weather system moves on. This will also stuff up the fishing inside particularly for kings as the bait will disappear....
  21. Mate Was running only 2 skirts both about 7-8 inches. One was a black bart and one was a locally made jobbie both were pretty dark ie. black and green. Not that I am very experienced in this type of fishing but both fish did not muck around and smashed the lure pretty well straight away...appeared to be quite agressive. Johno
  22. Boys, Headed east yesterday to see if there were any dollies around the fads and see if I could break my marlin cherry. Got plenty of livies including slimies, small pillies and yakkas by about 7am and headed out. Water was still a bit cold at only 21.3c around the fad so I wasnt overly confident. Sure enough there were plenty of undersized rats around the fad but that was it. Decided to put out a couple of skirted lures and a bird teaser and head north. Bout an hour and a half later bird activity started to increase and I spotted the tell tale fin and tale. Trolled towards the fish and vzzzzzzzzzzz we're onto about a 90kg beakie. Had it on for about 2-3mins then pulled the hooks. At this stage we didnt care as we had raised a fish, hooked up and got a good look at him. We were high fivin each other like idiots. Set the spread out again and ten minutes later the other rig goes off. This time it was a fairly slow take, then the thing went nuts. Basically went the other side of the boat as we were trying to clear the other lines, jumped about 15m from the boat and proceeded to throw the hook also. That was the end our excitement unfortunately but was stoked to hook one of these suckers. Never been that enthused to be honest but I now understand what all the hype is about. That picture of a marling jumping that close to the boat will stay with me for a long time I reckon. BTW still cant buy me a legal kingie!!!!!! Water temp: 21.3c depth: 60 fathoms Johno
  23. Stew....mmm. Having a look at sst temps are only going to improve over the next couple of days. I will not be able to resist a look if the winds allow. Johno
  24. Thanks mate. Temps are looking much better for this weekend.
  25. SBF Agree with seacow, only point i would add is a big squid will still hit a small jig however smaller squid will sometimes shy away from the larger varieties
