  1. Boys, Bit of an update since my last report. I can confirm that the fish busting up from Marley south were predominantly stripies (if Sunday was any indication). The story goes as follows: Fathers day right, i can do whatever i damn well want right. Anyway after taking the 7 year old handbreak for a quick spin, threw her off, sorry i meant to say i dropped her off at the dock and started heading south. 4-5 kms north of the hump, bit of a current line and gannets so decided to troll a white feather a long way back. Got a hit fairly quickly and the young fella boated a stripe of about 1.5kg. Sweet...snapper bait!!! Put the feather back out and 5 mins later another hit this time by a much better fish. With the spool quickly looking rather sparse cranked up the drag and started getting some line back. 5 mins later had a nice stripe of 4-5 kgs boatside. Gus grabs the net and says 'what do i do?'...I say 'just make your first shot your best shot and dont miss'. Anyway he has his shot, eveything goes to poop and we lose the lure and i lose my sh@1. Meanwhile Gus is trying to keep a straight face. Anyway we get down to the hump, have a quick drift. Wind light and from the west and could get to the bottom with a 1/4 ounce snapper lead. Anchor on the north western corner and proceed to burley and buerley and burley. Fished one floater, one floater with a small bean and an octojig on a patternoster with a strip of stripie. 2.5 hours later doughnuts. Pulled the pick and had a quick drift on the western side to see what else was there. Whilst there were lots of pickers also alot more action with a just legal pinkie which i released and a nannigai which also went back. I have now spent a lot of time down there with very little to show for it. If anyone has any tips that they would like to share with the Cronulla crew, please feel free. I must warn you though i cant guarantee it will be kept schtumm cause most of the raiders appear to live in Cronulla. Haha Johno
  2. Thanks Boattart Might be worth a look on the weekend. Johno
  3. Thanks mate, Are there any tips you can give me on the reds. Have put in quite a bit of time down around the hump for doughnuts. Appreciate you dont want to blow your spots but general areas, tips would be gratefully received. Funnily enough i was going to target reds on Sunday but had a gimp on board so decided to troll. Johno
  4. Boys, Got out Sunday arvo for the first time in a while. Big schools of fish everywhere down near Marley, about 2kms out. Fish looked to be 3-5kg jobs but couldnt get close enough to get a cast in let alone hook one. Very boat shy and moved faster than any school i have ever chased. Whilst I suspect they were either stripies or macs I got a glimpse of one and it looked a little more yft...Did anyone jag any of these fish? Johno
  5. Boys quick question. When you get sharked do you lose the whole rig or just the fish on the hook? Johno
  6. Mate, Best option is probably to spin using either Tassie devil lures or rapala minnows. Walk the shore and see how you go. Tassie devils cast better and you will therefore be able to cover more ground. Drop in to Steve Willaimsons shop and he should be able to assist (if open). You can also bait fish using mudeyes but it is a bit fiddly if you dont know how to rig them. Duckegg
  7. Damo/Boys, Tomorrrow - to go or not to go what do you reckon? Tomorrow looks marginal. Whilst I've got a 25ft Boston, not a big fan of pushing back into slop for 3+ hours. Whilst I am keen to get back out to Browns and beyond dont want to get pumped. Any advice would be appreciated. Johno
  8. Didnt go out this weekend however have been getting blue eye and gemfish over the last couple of weeks. Blue eye up to 13kg and a nice gemmie of around 8-9kgs. We stopped each time after we got 2 or 3 fish and started cubing for tuna. You should not go home empty handed as long as you can get to the bottom. Johno
  9. Mate Looks marginal. I was out a couple of weeks ago in a 25ft Boston and had to push back into a westerly. Took me three hours from Browns and couldnt do more than 10knts. Johno
  10. Boys Going out tomorrow and heading south out of Port Hacking. Looking to head east of the sthn fad and will be on Ch 21. Johno
  11. Boys Heading out about 10am tomorrow will be in a 25ft Boston Outrage. Will be on Channel 21 so if we come across them will let you know where we are. Taking the deep drop rig just in case. Johno
  12. Damo, That is great news. Broke my duck out at Browns last Saturday and got 3 blue eye up to 13kgs. Had one run from a tuna but for some reason didnt stay connected. Crap trip back though into the westerly. I reckon the 25ft boston rides pretty well but we were struggling to go any faster than 12knts. Wind seems a bit marginal for the weekend so far unfortunately. Once i can work out how to post pictures I will put up a report on th eblue eye. Johno
  13. Rabb1t, Did my first trip to Browns on Saturday, so by no means an expert however 30lb does seem light in my opinion. Shallowest section appears to be about 350 metres so I reckon you would want 500m of whatever you are fishing, which I would think would be 50lb braid+. Stay tuned got some photos to post. Regards Johno
  14. John Fiar guess I reckon, was lucky enough to boat a groper of about 12kg at the end of February at Jibbon on the inside on a piece of fresh squid. Solid muscle and pulled like a kingy at first. Went for a troll on Sunday for 3 hours and hooked up to a couple of good sambos the biggest was bang on 3kgs plus a rat kingie. Pretty cruisy but fun. I will be out there chasing pinkies on the plastics this weekend...weather permitting. Johno
  15. Thanks Dave...at least your reply was useful. How long have you had it and how often do you use it? Does it use much juice? Johno
  16. Boys, Looking at acquiring a deep drop rig, what is the verdict? Johno
  17. Plumb no drama at all. The whole idea of my post was info related anyway. MMM drift or anchor? tough one but i tend to drift... Boatart doing better than me at the hump..yet to get a decent one well done. Duckegg
  18. Boys and OAF 5.30am start this morning with snapper on the menu. Shark Island first with a squid and a pike. Pike went straight back out with a hook in him...duckegg. Soft plastics at Jibbon no good. Went down to Undola, Tuggerah etc. Few small nannigai then the jackets attacked. Were everywhere!!! Every reef, every break in depth. Hoooked one on a metal slice. Got one nice mowie in close but that was about it. Reckon i went thru 4 packets of plastics. Nice weather though and a feed....just OAF if you are keen let me know. Anyone else doing any good Johno
  19. OAF, Heard alot about you. Billy is a good mate of mine. Good kingy mate. Any time you want to go out let me know. Trying to unlock the snapper jigsaw over the next little while. Johno
  20. Pete, nice catch and even better hair!! Johno
  21. Anyone fished down at the hump lately looking to have a squiz tomorrow
  22. Dan will be sure to say gidday next time I see you out there. Been struggling to regularly connect with the kings, just time on the water and finding the squid. Been struggling to find the squid out of the Hacking which is where I am based. Been getting some rats but the best I have done so far is 80cm. Have jagged a blue groper of about 12-15kg out at Jibbon though which went ballistic. Johno
  23. Well done Dan, pretty sure I saw you out there. I was in the 25 Boston. Did better than me, blew a steering hose to start the day. Lucky I had a spare and some fluid. Got a couple of squid and DRd everywhere for no takers. Were some fish sounding near the drums but werent interested same outside. To cap off a crap day lost my DR ball near the Merries. Not doing that again. 480 and Formosan you guys are killing the pig at the moment well done. Good effort mate. Johno
