  1. No worries mate, make sure you don't pay anymore than $400 for it though
  2. NIbbles, I mainly chuck 5inch fish arrows with 1/2oz heads. They go for miles and the rod handles. But I wouldn't go chucking anything to much heavier, you could get away with a 3/4oz head though I have many times. If you are going to use anything heavier make sure you only have about 30cm of line from the tip so as the load is exerted over the entire rod blank in the cast. The rod is very fast through the tip it is great for working heavier jigheads, doesn't fold away, however it is also brutal on hookset which is what you want for a jew rod. however, I have pulled the hooks on a few using transams and threadybusters as the fast taper can be a bit much for the trebles, changed over to single hooks haven't had an issue since and can't complain with hookup rates, snag the bottom less to which is an added bonus. it balances up with a reel anywhere from 200 to about 250g beautifully. I run a 4000 on it as 270g which is a little bit over but i don't mind as it makes the rod tip light, and since you are always working the tip up when chucking plastics this can be advantageous when using it for extended periods of time.
  3. G.Loomis BSR852GLX will be the nicest heavy plastics rod you will ever use. I run 20lb braid over that in the estuary where you can chase them down int he boat. Off the beach I'm running 50lb over a SMR and am looking at a heavier outfit as have been undergunned recently.
  4. could be a spottie mackerel, bigger bonito/tailor, plenty of sharks would fit the bill also.
  5. Heading up to coffs harbour next week looking to head out on an offshore charter. not really interested in bottom bashing withbait, fishing with livies is alright but im mainly interested in lure fishing dropping plastics and jigs or casting at surface pelagic schools. Anybody got any charters in that general area they can recommend? dont necessarily have to operate right out of coffs, happy to travel if there is decent fishing to be had. also staying at korora bay planning on spending a few nights chasing jew on the beach any tips would be appreciated. cheers P.S. have been eyeing off some of the freshwater in the area also wondering if there is anything alive and kicking in there? open to pm's Cheers
  6. bonito, long tom and the other fish you caught were pike
  7. have a look at most saltwater creeks. for bass what i usually say is where the mangroves stop is where you start casting. its not hard to find good looking bass water on google maps. its getting access which is always the hard part.
  8. shimano rarenium 4000 or 5000. a lot lighter than most reels of the equivalent size and has the two spools which would suit you well
  9. Just to let you guys know the comp was the Berkley Evinrude Team Series http://www.betsbream.com.au/ The winning bag today was a five fish bag that weighed 5.7kg. With a big bream of 1.31kg. Here is the results if you are interested http://www.betsbream.com.au/rounds/round-three/results/ Cheers
  10. Hi chasing jew off the beach with a paternoster rig. Having my mainline tied to a three way swivel the second terminal of the swivel tied to a piece of light line connected to my sinker then the last terminal tied onto my heavier trace with my livebait on the end. Which piece of line would you make longer, the line to the sinker or the line to the livebait? And reasons why? And roughly how long would you make each. I am wondering what would be best for max casting distance and reduction of tangles. Cheers
  11. Don't expect any greenery with the fires that have ripped through that area recently. Don't know how that affects the fishing though haha There are plenty of salmon at tallows
  12. Bit of super glue on the keeper then slide the plastic up over it and you wont have any dramas with the z-mans fallin off. Also, they should be chopper proof
  13. Let this be a lesson for you mate, stay clear of tt jigheads. I have had bream straighten them they are a shit hook. I love gammas but my god they are weak hooks in those jigs. Even the VMC's in the squidgy jigs are better. Try the nitros I have had no dramas with them.
  14. Without going into too much detail: Fireline is fused and has memory, sunline and other pe lines are limp. I prefer super pe to fireline anyday, especially when it comes to casting distance. The 10lb Castaway is great I have it on a few reels but the best braid I have found in the 4lb is toray light fish pe, google it and if you can find any you will be very, very happy. I use the 4lb and can throw an unweighted soft plastic 30m easy. great line but you need to tie good knots. I use a slim beauty and have no issues with leader knots breaking, breaks at the lure knot everytime. Cheers Don't know if its cool to post this link or not but I couldn't find any site sponsors who had this stuff. dont think so/index.cfm?pr=product&product_id=7803
  15. 100mm bloodworm wrigglers mate they will serve you well no matter what the conditions. Have caught all three species you mentioned on them. Good luck!
  16. G'day mate I'm looking at targeting some reds inshore soon what do you find is best in regards to tides? I've got a 4 metre tinnie that can get out past box/joey on the good days and I've recently stocked up with all the safety gear so hoping to get out there as soon as the swell drops. If you wouldn't mind sharing some tips it would be much appreciated I'm fine with pm or whatever suits Cheers, Adam
  17. Light gear - centauri for terminals, kaneit for leader/ mainline connection and leftys loop for lures. In the heavier stuff if not crimping I use a nail knot and its a bimini twist for me to form a double and then either a cats paw or slim beauty for joining lines. Double hook rigs I use a snood which is a 100% strength knot if tied the same way as in the following video, love the snood its probably my favourite knot haha Cheers
  18. Maybe so mate those threshers have got a lot of surface area to generate power in that tail but I'm still sticking with my original claim. Did a bit of research and the sailfish is the fastest fish that has been ever clocked, however it is believed that Makos can go faster than a sail but only in short bursts. Someone needs to clock a mako! haha Either way, there are plenty of speedsters in our oceans Don't fancy being a bait fish....
  19. Yeh be careful with the hairies I'm pretty sure they have an anti-coagluant around their teeth which prevents the blood from clotting on a wound, don't quote me on that one though. Well done on the hairies did you have a bait on the bottom for the jew or only targeting the hairies?
  20. yeh probably safer, if you do decide to keep one i will give you a tip. once you have a mako on board clear everything off the deck they just go snap snap snap snap snapping at everything, your feat, your gear, everything they wreak absolute havoc especially in small boats haha gotta love the aerial disays though its good to have a few metres of thick mono as sometimes they land on the line and their skin can actually cut you off. well done on the capture anyway j do believe they are the fastest shark in the ocean and in the top three when it comes to fastest fish. perhaps not as quick as a sail but dont quote me on that one
  21. yes perfect eating size for makos, when they get a bit bigger though the mercury levels shoot up. imo too good a sportsfishto keep, did it go aerial?
  22. ohkay so say i've got 6 rods rigged with lures. I'm using one and the rest are stowed in a rod locker. I can cop a fine??? I would of thought that they would be better off focusing the law about the number of rods in use i.e. number lines in the water at one time. Having 50 rods rigged up with me wouldn't really matter if I'm only using one a time if you get what i mean? Hope someone can clear this up...
