  1. a few more photos of the lure chain underwater
  2. yeah for sure, that's what I was thinking, chain them up I've been taking note of the fish we catch stomach contents, even 20kg + dollies have really small fish inside them, the size of that lure and even smaller. The Bluefin we caught last year was full small fish 3-4 inches long. I will be probably running at least one in the spread at all times from now on. An elephant will eat a peanut. that lure is a prototype, I have to make a few changes to the lure before I get them manufactured, the chamber is very small, its hard to put the bait in, so I will get them to bore it out a little more and get a 3D eye socket on it, I should have them available in a couple of months
  3. I went trolling from 8am until 2pm yesterday, wanted to test a new lure in development. 3.5 inch lure you put bait in the head, it imitates white bait or a small squid. I put the lures in around 5 miles out in 21, water was a nice deep blue even close. I found a fish trap about 6 miles out, there were tiny little Dolphin Fish jumping all around it. Did a couple of passes and hooked 2 on the new lure, but they both managed to shake free. These fish were really small, maybe 12” I caught 3 Mack Tuna and 2 Striped Tuna between 6 miles out and the shelf all on the new lure and nothing on the larger lures. Lots of temp breaks, currents and blue water all the way out and found water as high as 22 along the shelf. On the radio I heard about 3 boats wide of the Browns saying it was pretty lifeless out there and they hadn’t gotten anything at all. I’d run one really small lure in your spread if your heading out. The fish I got were spewing out tonnes of white bait. Good luck
  4. cheap vodka, tequila or any cheap alcohol, just pour a little on its gills it kills them in about 2 seconds, it sends them catatonic, its good if you want to take photos, the fish still has it colors and its dead plus I'm sure its nicer way for the fish to die, drunk!
  5. looks like we'll be heading out on Friday, I got a couple of people lined up now both Thursday and Friday looks ok, maybe Thursday is little better
  6. i just find the chains really easy to use vs a spreader bar, just load the stinger lure with some bait and that's pretty much it, very easy to run anywhere in the spread. I have also been clipping on reflective fish in front of all the lures and lure chains. I do have some footage somewhere of the chains, but i can't find it right now. One day I will sort out all the videos I have , but i did find these screen dumps of the chains in action. The chain will also dig in deeper than the spreader bar.
  7. about 10-12kg no probs, i got your lures ready to go, let me know if you want them sent over or wait til you come fishing next time
  8. 9am start with 2 other Raiders on-board. Nice conditions, we hi-sped NE then put the whole spread out just inside the Bait Station. Quite a few boats around the BS, didn’t look like anyone was getting anything and the water didn’t look too good around there either. Looking at the charts, alt, temp and currents looked best about 15-20NM NE from the Bait Station so we started trolling our way there. We found the good water almost exactly I thought it would be, blue, lots of temp breaks, nice current running. We paced that area from that time onwards hoping something would show up. 1 hr later we hooked a Bull Dolphin Fish around 20kg, I thought it was a marlin at first we could barely get the rod out of the holder and its first run a was absolute screamer on a really heavy set drag. Unfortunately we lost it at the boat, you can blame my shoddy gaffing for losing it, I had about 3 shots at it About hour and half later we got a double hit on dollies, one stuck and we managed to get one on-board this time, 10-12kg female. It took a sardine lure chain with pilchards in the stinger. The 2 other hook-ups were on a 10” pink lure and a 10" blue lure both had pillies inside them. The Dolphin Fish’s guts were full of tiny fish, I would be running a couple of really small lures in your spread if you’re planning to head out this week. Nice ride back, all downwind in the north easterly. Good luck to anyone heading out. Peter
  9. Scent Blazer is little over few years old now and we getting more and more people using our lures all over the world with great success. We are getting emailed stories like the one below from seasoned game fishermen saying their Scent Blazer lures are out catching all their other lures. http://www.scentblazer.com/MyScentBlazer/News/2015ScentBlazerNews/EricMarlinTuna.aspx For those of you who don't know, Scent Blazer trolling lures have a bait chamber which allows you to put real bait inside so the lures smell and taste like a real fish. Additional benefits are you can load the lures with sinkers to control the lures weight and action, plus you can and add lights to illuminate the lures on overcast days. You can even put really soft baits like pilchards inside them, so its like trolling around a live pilchard at 8knts. If anyone wants to try our lures, send me a message and I can advise on which lures are suited to your gear and the fish you are targeting. http://www.scentblazer.com/ Take it easy Peter
  10. yeah, jigging is hard yakka at that depth, I spoke to a few guys who regularly fish the 12 mile for kings, they said they definitely do better on the live baits than jigging, we'll do a combo next time, jig and live bait we'll pick up some live bait at the artificial, do you get kings at the artificial? Seems like a likely spot for them and much shallower so it would be easier to jig there. good luck on Sunday if you get out there
  11. decided do a bit of a combo yesterday, jigged at the 12 mile to begin with for about 2hrs, we got 2 kingies and sore arms 1 was just legal and the other was a throwback. The throwback had 2 perfectly round bites on its back, we thought it could have been a cookie cutter shark or a squid. There were about 8 boats around the 12 mile, they were all pulling in kings mainly on live baits, next time we'll take a few live baits, easier than jigging. around midday we started trolling, we found a break that went 18 to 20.5 about 2 miles west of the 12 mile, so we headed for that, good break, heaps of birds, bait, whales all along it, we were sounding bait everywhere around the break. We eventually got one hit on a 6" inch lure but that's all. We didn't push east of the 12mile, the westerly was stronger than forecasted, so it would been pretty bumpy out wide in my boat. Anyway, it was worth a shot out and conditions were pretty good, I'm sure there will be something turning up on all that bait out there, either that or the preditors are just full and can't eat anymore.
  12. that's a bummer about Sunday, this transition time from winter to summer is often slow, but its always worth a shot I got a crew for Thursday now, worse case scenario, no fish but we get go for a drive on the ocean, that's still ok will you let know how we go
  13. No probs, All the chains seem to do well, but these 2 are always good colors, can't go wrong with pinks and blues. http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1271/CatID/197/Lure_Chain_Ballyhoo__Pusher_Head.aspx http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1264/CatID/196/Lure_Chain_Pink__Bullet_Head.aspx got a crew for tomorrow now, will be heading out, will let you know how we go Peter
  14. LOL, don't worry if my boat was wider I'd be running 7 as well
  15. that's cool, whales are unreal especially when you can get that close to them, 7 lines, I thought I was bad, we run 5 with 2 teasers in the corners ok Thursday is the day, I'll show you guys how its done, but seriously we'll probably get skunked I got one spot available if anyone wants to come to along on thursday, txt me if you have my mobile or message me on here, meet at cabarita
  16. spoke 3 people who went out on Sunday, they all got nothing, said it was dead out there. all said there is a raging current around 3knots along the shelf running north to south altimetry hasn't been great for about a week, anyway might try this thurs
  17. yeah, a few boats caught yft a few days before and the word was out, it was packed that w/end we were cubing, and could see everyone's cube trail drifting past us, there was that much bait in the water and no one got any tuna
  18. yeah, and makes the carpark at port stephens a real car park. I know someone who has been on one in Tobago, he sent me the link, apparently they are really safe, unsinkable, I don't know what kind of range they have, not a lot I guess. but how handy, just keep a few rods and lures the boot, if you worked somewhere you cross water, you could troll to and from work
  19. yeah bummed, i spoke to someone who was out today, they said it was glassy by mid morning. They a got heap of kings at the 12 mile, nothing on the troll, they said it there were a few boats out trolling but didn't hear of anything getting caught sunday looks the pick of days now
  20. bummer, couldn't make it out there today, rest of the week is not looking that great either hopefully either sat or sun is good and reschedule for then
  21. got one person lined up so far, txt me if you have my mobile or send me a message just be trolling all day meet at Cabarita marina Peter
  22. love to try one of these at browns https://www.watercar.com/videos
  23. that's a lot, we were out about 8yrs ago, really flat sunday, I swear there was at least 150 - 200 boats
  24. bummer about the fish, that's a great break you found, I wish we headed south on Sunday. I've done 3 trips offshore solo, I know what its like when its windy and you hook-up, you have do a big arch to point the boat downwind, otherwise you are asking for a big mess I got no auto-pilot either so it's hard to set the spread as well, but hey if you want fish you just do it I reckon for every unsuccessful trip your closer to a good trip
  25. well done, yeah in hindsight we should have headed more SE rather than heading east, we were in warmer water all day with hardly any temp breaks hey I was walking past the fish shop at North Sydney train station the other day, they had yellowfin for $59.99 a kg, its going be worth more than gold soon! congrats guys, enjoy the sushi
