  1. yeah, bummer we only got those few knock downs all day. I looked at the underwater footage, we had a stripy on for about 2 mins before we noticed it, we were dragging it around like live bait that shot was from when we stopped to reel in the stripy, a couple of stripies came up behind the sinking lure and camera to have a look had a quick look at the rest of footage didn't see any other fish on it
  2. we got skunked, we got 3 hook-ups all day, I am pretty sure one was a stripy, I think we got him on the underwater camera, will check later got 2 mutton birds, they were following us all day got the hook-ups around 10NM east of browns around 4.30pm in 20.3. Out beyond heatons in 20.7 we saw 2 smaller fish on the surface, probably stripies, but that's we saw all day and one sun fish on the way in. Looked promising everywhere we went. Couldn't get a good read of SSTs this morning, In hindsight probably should have headed more SE, looking for the cooler temp break. It was 20.3 to 20.7 all day for us. That's fishing Conditions were pretty good, always worth getting out there.
  3. yeah, don't you love that, I had a late scratching good luck to anyone heading out
  4. cool, at this stage the break at heatons looks more promising, will radio you guys out there, good luck
  5. tomorrow looks ok, not sure where to fish, there's a colder break a little south of the browns that goes 17 to 18.5 and warmer break out near heatons that goes from 18.5 to 20.5. Currents and alt look better near Heatons. will check the charts tomorrow morning and make a decision then, we are just gonna troll, we'll give the shark fishing a miss and just try to find some tuna out there somewhere CS: happy hooka 2
  6. bummer about the weather, don't you hate it when blows up like that and you can't get any speed up, yeah that's fishing, but you gave it a shot I was hoping to get out this week but the weather looks like crap all week
  7. could it be mack tuna, I am not sure if they grow that big, I have caught some mack tuna spinning about 15yrs back just inside the heads of Pittwater that would have gone around 8kg, they were in amongst schools of salmon that photo shows how humans can really stuff things up, it would be amazing if you still got catches like that today
  8. yeah bummer, yeah I know we lose mobile around the 12 mile mark. Alternative is a sat phone which is expensive per minute or one of those big Sat dishes. I just use the cloud free sst if there are other ones are not available, they aren't too bad on ripcharts, gets you close enough to the mark and you can work the rest out when your out there.
  9. that's a bummer, around heatons looks really good, theres massive break there, 18 to 21
  10. yeah bummer mate, yeah its happened to me before, nothing worse
  11. yeah I thought the same, Friday looks best, I got work and kids anyway, so I'm out for at least another week temps breaks, alt and currents look really good out there, maybe you'll get the tuna trifecta, bft, yft and albacore good luck, keen to hear how you go
  12. out wide past the 12 mile I think it would be pretty horrible, the wind has a lot of space to pick up momentum out there and further out you went, the worse it would get if you stayed in close, say a mile off long reef targeting kings, it think it would be ok, it would probably be reasonably smooth there, there's probably enough land cover from the westerly a mile or two out Friday looks like the best day, the wind drops right down after midday, it's a shame its blowy this weekend because the temp breaks, currents. altimetry look really good off Sydney right now. the other solution is get a really big boat say 50ft plus, I think the boat show is on this weekend
  13. no probs, it was good we got one, there was monster YFT caught the day before, 80kg plus, next time that's us
  14. yeah, I remember there was a segment on 60 minutes on the north end of Stockton Beach in Newcastle. Guys would drive their 4WD onto the beach, then paddle out on surf boards and drop a big mullet bait out the back, they consistently catch whites off the beach up to 8ft and larger. Some guys even setup game chairs on the back of their 4WD utes. I don't normally target sharks anymore, but we hooked a small white really close off Long Reef once, bloody scary when you see them snapping their jaws.
  15. yeah but I heard they only have an appetite for pro surfers these days
  16. Had a few Raiders on-board yesterday, we got one Yellowfin around 25-30kg for 4 knockdowns. At first I was sure it was a Bluefin, it ran as hard and long as the Bluefin we caught a couple of weeks ago. We hi-sped trolled all the way to Browns at 20 knots and got nothing doing that, (I didn’t expect to J), we slowed down to 8 knots at Browns and trolled to about 10NM east of Brown’s in 20.2 for zeros. We headed directly south from there, it got better the further south we went and we started getting a few knockdowns. We found a slight temp break with a long line nearby that went from 20.2 to 19.7, we got the Yellowfin near there, about 10NM east of the Canyons. A good day out, a little choppy in the morning but it settled right down in the arvo. James, who was on board jumped in the water and took a few underwater photos of the fin, braver than me, looking forward to seeing them. We got it on 6” Red/Black lure chain with squid inside the bait chamber. When we cleaned the Yellowfin it was full of squid, so there’s the match. http://www.scentblazer.com/Products/tabid/292/ProdID/1275/CatID/197/Lure_Chain_Red__Black_Squid__Pusher_Head.aspx Also the navigation lights on the Sow and Pigs markers are not working, so watch out if you are around there at night. Peter
  17. we got a yellowfin today around 30kg for 4 knockdowns, started trolling at browns, then went about 10NM east from browns for zeros we headed south from there, water started to get more interesting as we headed south and we started getting a few hook-ups, found a temp break that went 20.2 to 19.8 looked like the edge of current and there was a longline nearby yft was caught around 10NM east of Southern Canyons, post some photos later good luck to anyone heading out tomorrow
  18. hell yeah! that is a big fin! yeah we'll probably start around browns and head towards southern canyons, we are happy hooker 2 good luck to you all!
  19. Is anyone heading out tomorrow, I haven't heard any reports of Bluefin for about a week, just yft and albies, which is still good
  20. In that case you probably need to work just a little less No probs, next time We could all die tomorrow so we need to go fishing
  21. Heading out on Thursday, I have one person lined up so far, can take another. If want to come along message me or txt me if you have my number. I just checked the charts, looks good near the Southern Canyons. Can't guarantee fish, but we'll give a shot!
  22. bummer your hookup didn't stick, if the other boat was on it for an hour, good chance it was a big Bluefin yeah it was an amazing break, birds, sharks, dolphins, kelp and crap washed up everywhere on it, if it wasn't for the chop on way out we would have to got to it sooner, we only got 2hrs trolling on it before having to head back. We drove over a huge bronze whaler there, I just happened to be on the ladder looking down when it swam under the boat. Definitely would spent most of my day at that break hoping for Bluefin showup. It looked the most likely place that we came across to get one.
