    Hairtail

Ahh Hartail, do they even exist ? Im sure our experts from the social night will enlighten you
  5. Geez i hope not Kevvie, im thinking even that is too hot but im going to keep working this area over summer so ill keep you posted. 30 deg water temp is damn high. Hey Jethro good luck in the comp, im hitting the Flathead pro at month end for a bit of fun. Just from my experience there are some good Bream that hold over the weed beds. Ive been working gulps just over the top of weed beds and seem to go ok with this tactic. Can be bloody hard to find Bream here as you know but i seem to manage a few doing this. Ive actually being working the lure pretty quick on a 1/8 jig which is heavy i know but they just smash it. Dunno if the faster retrieve invokes a strike or not but it works for me. Havent spent much time doing this and will try lighter tactics this summer. Hope you smash em mate.
  6. At this stage yes im in but this may change being so close to xmas. Shoud be ok for a couple of hours at least. Havent done much here and looking forward to wandering aimlessly around the banks seeing whats there.
  7. Im starting too lose hope Kevvie, whilst in Tweed Heads i saw one trawler complete with licence for sale. Found out that it had been for sale for ages even though he dropped his price from abour 300k to 220k. Seems no one wants to buy it. This would be a perfect opportunity for a government funded buy but suprise suprise it hasnt happened and probably never will. Youd have to think he would sell to anyone at this stage, makes you wonder why the deal cant be done. Like I said im loosing hope that well ever get rid of em when they wont even buy the licences for sale !
  8. Well done mate top fish. Big flatties go pretty hard on lures. water is warming up and so is the fishing
  9. Just saw Telco's post and that does actually make more sense now i think about it, especially if it happened while cranking. Didnt see the bit about " while starting the boat" Onya Telco your good on the electrical stuff.
  10. Hit the lake for a sess today. Geez it can be a tough place to fish at times. Got a wet ass early on but kept plugging away as you do. Managed 4 Bream, two undersize and two over 30cm, a nice flattie on hb and another decent Long Tom. Bream were taken cruising the flats and also over some weed beds on me fav Gulp. Reason I say Spa Bath is that parts of the lake were 30 degrees and not just in the outlets, Wyee Bay to be precise . One of the Bream was dead set hot to touch taken from here, but what is normally a good flattie spot returned zero, could be too hot ? Happy with the Bream cause they can be tough here, but dissapointed in the flatties which I was hoping to smash but couldnt find. Funny bit. Nearly caught a BIG Leatherjacket on a lure with it actually touching it. How ? It followed it all the way up and when it came to the top i just dangled the lure on the surface. The LJ just stayed with it sussing it out while on the surface. I reached for the net while still dangling the lure, put the net in, and just as i was about to swipe it dived dowm. Just missed. Anyhow a top day out as i also had a newbie on board who caught his first Tailor on lure. Cheers
  11. Just to add a bit, the connection at that strap would have to be the weak point too by way of a poor connection. If the connection are good the battery post just sparks but I have seen poorly fitted and loose earth straps blow off before on cars when the battery polarity is fitted around the wrong way. Just need to know exactly when it blew.
  12. Sounds like reverse polarity to me. Not too many things cause the earth strap to flash, unless there is a wicked short in which case you would have some melted wiring as well. Did the flash occur when he connected the battery or did it happen while the boat was running ? If it happened on battery connection it would have to be reverse polarity youd think.
  13. Same show ran on Discovery if you've got Foxtel last night. These guys are mad
  14. Ive got a pair of Maui Jims with the bronze polariod lense and they are awesome. Got them at Tuggerah, paid about $160.00. Dont let much light in at all and they are light and comfortable. Heaps of people use Spotters and are highly recomended but like Ken said quite expensive.
  15. To the best of my knowledge INOX is a vegetable based lubricant not a petroleum based one which is why is is good for tackle unlike wd-40. Vegetable based produsts have no ill affects on fish that ive ever seen. Ive also heard people using cooking oil spray as well but it very messy. Good for long term storage perhaps.
  16. Can anyone give me the link to the NSW Pro Bream website ? cant find the bloody thing anywhere.
  17. Mate I can tell you that those worms are awsome on the Lake Mac flatties so keep trying. Slow rolling retreive works well with a few skips. Whipping em doesnt seem as good. BTW there are a couple of decent flattie spots in the colder months in Lake Mac, still harder to come by but still there. Some of the bays are warm over 20 degrees ( for obvious reasons ) and have nice mud flats which hold the flatties.
  18. Back finally after a nice two week stay at Coolangatta. Not much to report, only fished for about an hour each day and the wind was gale force most days. Picked up a dozen or so flatties and two nice Bream working the flats which was about all i could do in the wind. Gulps out fished all other lures and accounted for 90 % of the fish. Very nice place to fish and a lot of options open but the weather killed it. Also the last week was spent fishing high tide and the fish really shut down. Concentrated my efforts around drain pipes and creek mouths as there had been a fair bit of rain around and this did the trick. Saw a couple of funny things though. Was having a flick around a rock wall and bridge pylons at Currumbin when out of knowhere some large bubbles appeared and a black shape emerged from the depths. All of a sudden a scuba diver pops up with a fish impaled on his spear gun. Cant say I was expecting that. Jumped out of the water in to his car a nd drove off. Very strange but I was in Queensland so...... Looking our over Coolangatta and Kirra beaches from our unit I saw a string of bouys that went the length of both beaches about 500 meters out. Though this was just a shark net but no, shark BAITS set buy a long line fishing vessel. Just what you want on a beach. Speaking to some locals the pros are doing it tough. One prawn trawler was out for three nights and used 600 bucks worth of fuel for 100 kg pf prawns for their efforts , this is now common. My heart is breaking. One trawler and licence was for sale and has been for ages but no one want to buy it. Gone from 350k down to 220k and still no buyers. Anyway, managed a few fish and had a top time with the family.

    Tweed River

Well, armed with all this info im heading off. Catch up with all of you in two weeks hopefully with a report or two. CYA
  20. Off to QLD tommorrow and going to be doing a bit of land based fishing on the Tweed probably just the mouth end. Just taking the flick stick and some plastics. Any suggestions on spots or target fish ? Cheers
  21. Yeah thats how I remember them. How cool are they. Ben I dont think im too far off with the spec, from memory the gaps are not ultra critical. Id be more inclined to ensure the points are clean. If there is any burning or build up sand them back with fine wet and dry paper and give them a final clean with a solvent or some fuel on a lint free rag. The plug gap wont be that big of a deal. They dont have a big spark so if the gap is too big it wont start, if its too small it will carbon up and missfire. Hopefullt Boppa has a book anyway, but if he doesnt give that a go. Love those engines
  22. Geez your turning back the clock their. A British Seagull ! Are you talking about the really old school ones ? If you are ... I sort of remember the point gap at about 10 to 12 thou. The plug gap is small too, perhaps just square off the earth electrode on the plug and it should be close, maybe 20 thou. Hopefully someone will have the right specs.
  23. Damn right they can board your boat. These guys have all the power while on the water. Better to let them go about their business than to argue. Get in their way and you can get in to big trouble.
