  1. I had this boat 2years next month. Survey cost around $900 - 1000 and yes for moored boats it is a requirement. Fuel around 25 litres per hour at cruise which is around 10-12 knts, WOT is about 18 knts I take 2 20l jerrys down to top her up cheaper than on water prices by about 30 cpl. Our boat had 3000 hrs over 30 years not big in running time (diesels made for big hours)and still purr when crusing. havn't gone out wide yet, but last christmas we bought her down to sydney from central coast in 3-5metre southerly swell with big southerly blow I droped her off a couple of the bigger waves but arrived into Darlingharbour safe and dry. the boat handled it better than me My diesels max out at 3500rpm but cruise anywhere from 2000 - 3000 rpm so they dont work that hard. Sorry 16 boats in 43 years. BTW when I was a teenager a bunch of Mariner 34 Boats where anchored in a bay across from us one day so I paddled over to check out these boats. that night I dreamed of one day owning one. well I picked a 31 over a 34 David
  2. Hi Rod My boat is a 1980 Mariner 31 flybridge. twin 130hp diesel shaft drive. twin shaft makes it turn on itself docking is very simple and no I have no bow thruster. We replaced carpet in and out covers, and I made new curtains for her. As with all moored boats for insurance and my peace of mind they have to have a marine survey done before final price is reached, they slip the boat and check for any osmosis blisters or any other faults. with my boat the owner paid for the slip and I paid for the survey. the work we have done on our boat has increased the sales value by about 15k on what we spent. Shaft drives are simple and effective yes the gearbox is inside the boat attached to the engine. sterndrives if not used often can get weed and growth inside the housing slowing cooling water thus causing overheating. plus service fees. the only negative thing I can think of for shaft drives is DONT run aground can cost a lot to fix. Where sterndrives can be lifted up. hope this helps David Ps Ive been checking the market for about twenty years and this is boat number 16
  3. first why only newer than 12 yo? second you can get a lot of boat for that money a bit older I've seen 28-30ft Rivs, berties, mariners for around K 50-60 only needing a little tidy up. Id go diesel for something that size much lighter on pocket fuel wise also diesels last longer.(less things to break) shaft drives are less trouble = cheaper to run. IMO anyway. when I bought my boat she was 30 yo and the only important thing for us to do was new covers, mechanically she was and is first class.
  4. take the old stuff to an upholsterer cheaper than getting some one out to boat i had all out side cushions remade (4 long cushions with foam just under $1000.00)for my boat last year. all out side stuff in marine grade inside I used heavy wear fabrics. I also used someone from Parramatta area. hope this helps David

  7. sorry Nanook it didn't look like a cat type the mouth was very much like a predator with three rows of teeth. no whiskers that where on the web pics that i could see thanks for all your input
  8. Hard to tell from the pic, but i would guess a baby port Jackson just looked at a Port Jackson and no this one had a mouth full of teeth and at first we thought it had no eyes, also very long and slender. Looked like an eel when we got it into the landing net it rolled around and tied itself into a small ball. hope this helps.
  9. I caught this off Lion Is last Sat night, I guess make, shark but which model? Sorry the pic isn't better it kept moving and the boat wouldn't stop for the pic. Thanks in advance

  15. my boat has 2 big heaters under the floor I just snuggle up to one of the diesels...... TOASTieeeeeeeeeeeee
  16. At last years boat show there was a small heater that ran on diesel, the larger ones where hot water heaters as well very quiet safe (no flames or emissions) compact. for cabin boats could be ducted throughout cabin with vents out to cockpit toastie warm with hot water to keep hands warm to

get an 12 volt car petrol pump and wire up with clips to battery and pump it out.
  18. Hi my name is David, and will be 54 this year. Like most of you I too started fishing with my Dad at an early age. I now own a Mariner 31 which is moored on Brisbane Waters NSW, she is an oldie but a goodie the last 18 months my wife and I have done a lot of work to make her ours. I’m just starting to set her up to drown a few prawns while cruising around or more serious stuff with the mates. As for PB’s, mates and I use to hit the Hawkesbury/Pittwater in the 80’s we would bring home meat trays, veggie trays and on night we snagged a $300 jackpot on the pokies at Moonie club, NO fish at all. Ihave been reading lots of your posts and with a bit of luck I'll soon have fish as PB's not meat trays:) So I go boating if I catch any fish it’s a bonus
