  1. Following my reply before yep just leave the rods in the rod holders or hand line tied off work to. Then work another jig with a rod. As for colours pink orange and red are my favourites. But also look behind the main colour to the base. Red base or glow in low light gold or silver in bright light. But remember rules are made to be broken so now ur getting a guide thanks to everyone on here try these ideas and Ull soon come up with ur own.
  2. I do quite abit of Squidding through out the harbour and my best sessions are at first light. If ur from a tinny find some weed beds and drop 1 large jig and 1 small jig in different colours out the back of the boat half way to the bottom. Then cast a third jig. I start using all completely different jigs but if one is standing out as the best jig on the day switch the others to close to it. It can be very exciting if u drift over the top of a big hungery school. Good luck.
  3. Good work mate. I prefer the hi vis stuff tie on a shock leader and nothings going to see it but lets u see where it is easier. When Adam gets back we will have to see if we cant stretch it out.
  4. Only lock up on kings if they are getting near structure. Once off the bottom I back te drag off.
  5. Personally I would go a shimano tcurve over a selina. I found out the hard way u can't. Use anything but the best for jigging I took my 18000 saragosa and my 18000 Stella out to 12 mile and with in 2 hours my saragosa had screws coming loose. I will say I was going flat out and didn't take a break but I won't bother taking it next time.
  6. Try bigger plastics for them instead of 10cm (fairly small plastic) try 7-10inch stick baits. If it was chopped to bits I would say there were tailor mixed in. Kings don't have teeth. Nice work nailing a few.
  7. Personally I would go with 20lb power pro super slick. Super smooth strong braid.
  8. Nice combo for school Jews. I'm suprised u went with such a short rod for land based. I have to agree that its abit light for land based kings. U will have some fun but be prepared to loose some fish. My lighter land based king outfit is an 8000 stradic with 30lb braid on a 9 foot 10kg-20kg azusa 9 foot popping rod.
  9. Cheers very happy with that one. Just got home 2.5 hours flicking plastics for a few half hearted bumps and a few chopped plastics from tailor but no flatties at all.
  10. Definite more big flatties around then I can remember in recent years. What lures do u use dusky chaser?
  11. I thought it was gone for sure. Items not to forget next flatty session = landing net + glove.
  12. Yer that's only my 3rd over 80cm. I lost what I think was a 90cm+ fish on a butterflied yakka chasing Jews last week. Very happy with todays efforts.
  13. been chasing alot of flathead around manly with my new flatmate teaching him to use soft plastics. heaps of fish between 40-60cm in the last week but ive dropped some much bigger fish so today i headed down for a solo mission in hunt of a big one. armed with my trusty 2500 sustain and 10lb braid/leader with some 20lb leader as back up. some solid surface action with big tailor and salmon chasing small bait fish as well as some tiny tailor boiling up in the deeper water. started with a tiny white flick bait which alwasys works well fished under surface action for flatties (guess they are feeding on the scraps dropped by the surface fish). first hour was slow then got a 45cm flatty not what i was after but good for dinner. decided a bigger lure might avoid picking up the smaller fish so i put on my new sebile magic swimmer first cast along the edge of the drop off and some surface action took my attention away from what i was doing next thing i know i feel weight on my rod quickly switch back on and strike and find abit of weight and another 45ish cm flatty comes with both sets of trebles stuck in its head i must have dropped it right on top of him. another half hour for nothing so i went back to old faithful 4inch gulp jigging grub in pink/white on a half ounce jig head. after 10 minutes it gets smashed on the drop and a 40cm tailor comes in funnily enough not hooked just didnt want to let go of the plastic lol. few most casts and pop there goes my leader knot (i love how easy the albrite knot is to tie but it always pops during a long lure session) quickly running out of light but i thought hell few more casts, trying something completely different. 1/4 ounce jig head and a 5inch jerk shad in satay chicken. first cast as soon as it hits the bottom and bang im on solid weight and good head shakes, so i backed of the drag only with 10lb leader. slowly worked it in and then in the last glimps of light i see it and its a good fish. backed the drag off again and realised %$@# no net. standing ankle deep on oyster covered rocks, i managed to swim her up onto the rocks a few times but she quickly took off for the deeper water again (i only running about 1kg of drag at this point to avoid being bitten off or cut off on the oysters) im starting to really worry about how im going to land this fish. look left no chance so i start to leader her off to the right where i know theres a gap in the rocks leading up to some sand, but the gap is only about 40cm wide and both sides are cover in oysters. i get her to the entrance and realise the small patch of sand is still under water from the high tide, slowly i manage to walk her up the gap with a few scary moments next i had to walk her under an over hanging rock past another large rock and finally im at the sand, she took one last dash down another oyster covered channel but i some how managed to turn her around and perfect timing some boat wake washes her onto the beach.l finally my heart stops racing as i see another good flatty beaten on the sand. i dout ive ever worked that hard to land any fish before lol. quick measure and she came in at 82cm, just 1cm short of by pb (which ive caught 2 at). a few quick photos and i put her back to swim away. by this point it was pitch black and i had no head tourch but happy with my session i packed up my gear and 2 of the smaller flatties i kept for dinner and headed home.
  14. Just wondering when do dolphin fish usually turn up off Sydney? Never caught one and hoping to get stuck into a few this season.
  15. Putting a butterflied bait bait out in a spread is always a good idea (not just cutting them open its filleting them from the tail to the head and removing the spine and tail). Some days the butterflied baits will out fish the livies other days its the other way round. I would put money on the livie getting the bigger fish. More recently I've only been butterflying them up to the start o the gut section seems to last longer.
  16. Nice work mate. Always good when a plan comes together. I might have to get out and chase them tonight.
  17. I down rig with my jigging out fits as well. 50lb or 80lb. Snell 2 hooks (sometimes I run a live bait hook on top with a treble at the end) on to ur leader I run a 5m 50lb-150lb leader joined with a FG knot. Never fail rig If you have the Geoff Wilson knot book there's a few different snells in there.
  18. Very happy with the result. Just the night before I posted in the adopt a learner section to get a Jew on plastics. Looks like I was doing it right just had to persist some more. Was funny after pulling the shark up on the rocks I was holding it and my mate decided to bite the leader off and the shark kicked and nearly got hold of his ear. Not the smartest move on his part. He was only fishing 14lb leader to so I'm suprised he landed it
  19. After a long weekend od trying to find a flatmate I finally got a chance to fish Sunday night Decided I would try out a point in middle harbour I've been looking at on Google earth. Packed a small bag of plastics and my new samaki/sustain 10lb combo. Got down there about 7:30 and started flicking a 4 inch jigging grub on a 1/4 once head. Few casts and I start getting some bumps called them for big bream and the 10 minutes in wack and I'm on solid little fight on 10lb and sortly a 45cm Jew surfaces. What happened next was the most amazing fishing I've ever had. Next 2 cast landed Jews the same size then shortly after got a62cm on at my feet and then 4 more between 40-55cm.as quickly as they came they left. I still have a smile from ear to ear. All fish were returned. Last night headed down with 2 mates and more gear. My mate landed a 68cm and a small bull shark. And my other mate got smoked on the plastics by Wat could have been a big Jew.
  20. Nice work mate. My mate near got bitten on the ear last night while biting his trace but it was a small bull shark rather then a king
  21. I figured its time to ask for help ive been chasing Jews on plastics with no luck. I've caught plenty on baits and I'm sure I've lost a few on plastics but never landed one. I'm no novice to fishing and have all my own gear plastics out fits ranging from 2lb to 30lb and plenty of lures. I don't own a boat but love to get on one when I can an I'm happy to pay my way. I live in manly but work in the eastern suburbs and I'm happy to travel (to an extent) to fish. I'm free weekends and after work during the week. Hope someone on here can help me crack my curse.
  22. Mate u very rarely. Get gummies in Sydney. June July I've picked up a few in Sydney harbour but I would target them
  23. Mate I've caught some great squid before that thing is a monster. On telling te sex me and u mate where talking about this recently and I think the males are thinner through the tube. Like that one. Usually I find the thick ones have the eggs. Squid usually die after breeding as it takes so much energy and the breed once a year. But in saying that I'm sure there is exceptions to the rule maybe this was just a tough old squid. Mmmm tasty
  24. How does Roseville handle a southerly. I'm thinking of fishing down there this weekend
  25. Mate a size 1 long shank will do most of the above but personally I would be using different sizes for each. Slightly smaller for whiting bigger for flatties and Jews. But its perfect for bream and flounder.
