  1. Hey guys thought id let you know how we went the other day. Unfortunately we got held up with some issues at home (neighbors) and didn't get away until later in the day so sadly missed the tide. Non the less we were happy to be out on the water but only managed to find 2 decent flathead, both over 45cm - drifting between the Channel markers at the entrance to hardy's bay Thanks for all the advise, next time we go we will know where to travel and get there on time haha
  2. I live in avoca and would be probably going for a fish... Problem is I've got beach gear but minuses how to use it haha
  3. Got delayed a day bit heading out tomorrow! Can't wait!!!

  6. Sounds good, I've been reading up on some jewfish tactics and ways to land the allusive buggers so hopefully soon will hook one! I'm going to start targeting them a bit more and will hopefully get a chance to head out soon

Haha was relying on some beginners luck, sadly a no go tonight but will keep doing some research on this site for behaviour and techniques to improve chances.

  10. Sounds good I'll Try and hunt some down and give them a go!
  11. Yeah I definatly will, going to head out the tomorrow morning an hour each side of the tide. I pulled in a good flathead the day before on a soft plastic so i too would suggest it was another one. Either way my mission is clear haha! Find some live baits and try again! I'll have a crack further down the creek for some mullet. Thanks guys
  12. Well I'm not too fussy. Fishing from the shore around Brisbane water and avoca lake and would mostly be after bream and flathead, but anything else that goes trough those parts as well would be more than welcome on my line.
  13. Hey guys, Pretty new to the site and fishing scene and was looking for some help. I was wondering what recommendations you all had for soft plastics, which ones work well for you and what sizes. I'm land based on the central coast and haven't tried too many different kinds but haven't had much luck with the few I have. Also, I'm trying to locate a promising area for some live baits. Preferably squid, mullet and yakkas if anyone knows some places accessible by foot. Thanks everyone and happy fishing Gatts
  14. Hey everyone! Just got home from a casual night fishing on the pier just near punt bridge in East Gosford. Tried throwing a few lures around with a set line baited up with some prawn, hoping for some bream or flathead. Was having a quick break from the lures and picked up my baited line which to my delight was starting to get a bite. After a few small bumps I wound in slowly when the line took off!! My heart started racing as my rod was being pushed to it's limit. After a 5 minute fight, the monster at the other end broke off and left me with nothing, standing there contemplating what I did wrong. I swiftly re rigged with heavier leader and a bigger hook. Sadly the fish went off the bite after that. Wish I knew what it was, my theory is there was a much smaller fish tapping at the bait and didn't see the big Jew, maybe flathead that was after it and accidently hit the hook. Now in determined to head back there one night with some lives baits and heavier gear. Only problem I have being land based I haven't found anywhere to get mullet, yakkas or squid from the central coast. Any other stories about the one that got away? Or possibly some help finding lives baits?
  15. Wow guys! Thanks for the awesome replies ad amazing detail! Ill be hiring from hardy's bay area ad found some whiting over there myself off one of the piers the other day as well as nippers. I'll update with results of what is sure to be a successful days thanks to this site!
  16. Hi all, I'm fairly new to the central coast and am having loads of fun fishing around the estuaries with my partner so far. Next weekend I'm hiring a small boat to go out onto Brisbane water for the day with a few mates for my birthday. Most of these guys haven't been fishing before so I want to make sure I fond some fish for them. Was looking for a bit of advice on what to target at the moment and where we might find some fish. My idea was to start off by catching some bait before trying a few spots. Would love to get a feed out of the day but I'm looking forward to just being out on the water with some mates but any tips and advice you can offer will go a long way towards making it an even better day. Thanks and happy fishing!! Gatts
  17. Yeah defiantly will, time to start saving
  18. Wish I had a kayak! Been looking on the net at some but tossing up whether to go that way or save a bot more and get a small tinny haha. Have fun when you go out Gatts.
  19. Hey guys, Pretty new to the central coast, only just been here for a few months and am having a great time fishing around avoca lake and Brisbane Water. Wanting to take it a bit further now and get some serious fishing happening. Wondering if anyone had plans to chase Tailor, Salmon or anything that will give a better fight than little bream haha. I haven't been out to try yet, also because I haven't found anywhere to go get some good live baits (Squid, Mullet etc). Would love to hear from other locals so I can start to get some more knowledge under the belt. Regards, Gatts
  20. Hey guys and girls, Ive just moved up to the central coast and I've been trying to find a place to pump bait for some yabbies that's accessible by foot. So far I haven't seen anything around avoca (closest to me) so if anyone out there has any ideas that I can get to I'd love to hear them. Thanks Gatts
  21. Did some research, only about 25 cm. Do you know any good spots for live bait too? Only new to the area.
  22. Crescent Grunter it is, Had a look on the web. Thanks guys.
  23. Hi All, I was out fishing on Avoca Lake today on NSW central coast. Good day with about a dozen bream or so of all sizes, but my smallest fish of the day was the most interesting. It was a species I've never seen before and was wondering if anyone else had and could tell me more about it. I took a quick photo before throwing the little guy back and noticed that he had some pretty nasty looking spikes behind his gills, as well as some mean looking teeth in a pretty big mouth for its size. Cool looking fish, and although it didnt put up much of a fight (due to its size obviously), it did feel quite strong through the body while I was removing the hook. Hopefully someone can give me some info because I haven't found anything on the net so far. Thanks, and happy fishing, Gatts.
  24. Had a good day out on Avoca Lake today, about a dozen bream, only two worth keeping but plenty of activity about. Did pull in an unusual catch though. A fish I've never seen before. Photo to follow shortly but wondering if anyone could tell me what the hungry little thing was. Thanks!
