  12. Hi Raiders, I'm heading up to Port Mac soon for a week of surfing and fishing (probably just fishing!!!) and i was just wondering if there are many fish around and what the best baits are to use. I've never been up there and am not sure where we will go but any help would be greatly appreciated. I think most of the fishing will be done of the beach. Thanks Jacob (flattiefisher27)

  16. G'day raiders Headed down to sugarloaf bay this arvo armed with the usual prawns and pilchards targeting anything that swims!!! Arrived at The Steps and decided that it was too big a drop down to the water and if we got anything decent we wouldn't be able to net it!!! Anyway moved on further round the point and gee it was windy!!! On our way climbing over and under all the rocks we managed to drop both water bottles, the bait and our lunch! However all was recovered a little bit saltier than it had once been. Anyways onto the fishing. First cast of the day produced a little snapper. So did the second cast. A few minutes later my grandpa is onto a good fish run over and grab the net only to see that it is a leather jacket!!! About a half hour later and he is on again! After a great first run we knew that this was something of size. Thought it may have been a good Flattie however when it got to the surface it was a great bream!! I was just about to bet the fish and it goes and swims off into the oysters. Oh no!!!! Thought he had snagged us however he swan back out and I went to net him for the second time and I get him into the however the net gets caught on the oysters instead and the fish escapes the net!! After a few yanks the net was free and I scooped up the fish onto the rocks!!! I almost had a heart attack during that crazy experience!!! Put him on the brag mat and he measured up at 32cm and was very fat!!! A few minutes after and I was on to a solid fish which felt like it had a bit of weight to it! I shouted to grandpa "GRAB THE NET!!!! GRAB THE NET!!!" And when he came to the surface it was a big old leather jacket again!!! Very disappointed. All in all it was a good days fishing and a new favourite spot!!! The final rally ended up being 7 baby snapper 2 leatherjackets and 2 bream Thanks for reading and good luck!!! flattiefisher27 (Jacob) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. G'day Raiders Planning on heading out to fish the rising tide on Sunday. Just wondering if anyone knows any decent land based spots around the harbour? Ive tried around Balmoral Wharf, Clifton Gardens and Forty Baskets for no success. Thanks in advance for any info Cheers
  20. G'day Raiders Thinking of maybe getting a tinny in the near future to use on either pittwater or middle harbour preferably. Unfortunately we would not be able to tow the boat with a trailer. Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere in middle harbour preferably or pittwater where i will be able to store a tinny so it is easily accessible and can be taken out onto the water easily without towing it. Thanks in advance flattiefisher27

  24. G'Day Raiders, The plan was this morning to go out on Fishing Charter X to go and target some kingfish but an hour before hand it was called off!!! Devastated after that as I have only caught 1 kingy in my entire life!!! Anyways, decided to go down to balmoral instead and hire a boat to fish the high tide. Started off well with my Grandpa catching a nice 35cm Flathead which was released to fight another day and we also caught the small snapper that inhabit the Pittwater and harbour area. Was using prawns and pilchards to catch these fish. I then decided to change to an SP to see if I could tempt a nice Flathead! I've never really used soft plastics that much and the only fish I've caught on them are flathead. Anyway first cast with the sp and I was on to a small snapper! First snapper on sp wohoo!!! Stuck around the same spot for a while and the fish stopped biting. With an hour left if the hire boat to go we decided to change spots and move over near the rocks next to the boat shed. First cast and my grandpa was onto a solid fish however it snapped the line a few seconds into the fight!!! Guessing it was a nice Flattie that swallowed the hook! I then chuck out a pillie cube and a few seconds later I'm on and my rod is literally bent in half.(I was using a 2-4kg rod with 8-12 pound line can't remember haha) a fee seconds later my reel is screaming and the fish gains another 50m of line!!! As it reached the end of its run it leaped out into the air and it's whole body came flying out of the water. It was the most amazing sight to see in person!!!! Then I knew what I was tangling with an Australian Salmon! I ran into one of these a year ago off the beach and all I can say it did not end well a few seconds into the fight and the line snapped!!! Anyway back to this fish. On the left of me was a heap of moored boats with all of their anchors sticking out. I was praying that the fish didn't head that way and luckily enough it headed the other direction out into open water. Phew!!!! One less thing to worry about!!!! I thought I had this one in the bag( or the net in this case) however it then made a dash for our anchor rope!!!! Doh!!!! Quickly directed it away from the anchor and it then made a mad dash done to the bottom. After a few pump and winds it was on the surface and jumped straight into the net!!! I was stoked my first Aussie Salmon!!! Wohoo!!!!! After a few high fives we managed to get her out of the net and she was very plump!!!! She must have weighed around 1.5kg and she must have been ready to lay her eggs. After a few photos and after we measured her we released her back into the wild. She went 48cm on the dot!! What a great day!! After the salmon we caught nothing else and headed back to the wharf. I would like to submit my fish for catch of the month. There is mono hanging out of the salmons mouth. I know it's not a huge fish but is a very rare capture for me!!! Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
