  1. Damn Jackets, very frustrating indeed!! Even worse when you can't even hook them cause they eat the tackle. How did you end up catching them without losing your rigs? Did you go to wire traces or smaller hooks for their little mouths?? Cheers Choicebro
  2. +1 to that Bro. Great vid mate, can't wait to see more. Cheers Choicebro
  3. Decided to go for a quick flick this morning, haven't been out for a while due to other committments so it was a last minute decision. Loaded up the boat and headed to Tonkin park ramp in Cronulla where I usually put the boat in. I like it there it's only 2 minutes from my place. Headed out to one of my usual squid spots and set up my rig with a Yamashita Rlolc 2.5. First cast, nothing. 2nd cast nothing 3rd cast, caught the weed, or so I thought.... Weed doesnt fight back, next thing the braid starts to peel of and I think what have I got here?? Do I tighten the drag? no, be patient I tell myself. So I play it out, heart beating out of my chest as I know its not just a squid but a good squid. As it gets close to the boat, I see it. My god it is huge.... I bring it in close to the boat and reach out to grab it. I pick it up behind the eyes and it grabs me. No getting away now buddy, we both have each other... Get it in the boat and into the bucket it goes, only it doesnt fit so good in my 20L squid bucket, oh well it will have to do. Big smile on my face and a couple of smaller squid later I call it a day. Measured 38cm hood length. Definately my new PB for Southern Squid. Going to have to try Incredible Hull's S&P squid recipe tonight. Cheers Choicebro
  4. Hi Mate, pretty sure it would be 40ml to 2ml Or 40ml to 800 ml depending on if the "40ml" is representing the adhesive or the hardener Hope that makes sense Cheers Choicebro
  5. Top stuff mate, I have been getting onto a few good squid lately too. Hopefully the weather holds up and I can get out this weekend. Finally got the new Minnkota fitted and it works a treat. It's great to be able to pull up and set the anchor feature and not have to worry about drifting away from the spot. See you out on the water Cheers Choicebro
  6. Well done mate, things are looking up for you. 2nd video was marked private and couldnt view. Cheers Choicebro
  7. Interesting topic. I had a 12ft tinny with a 15hp motor on it when I was living up in Newcastle. No boat licence at the time, didnt get that till I relocated to Sydney and purchased my current boat. I fished the Hunter river a fair bit and had no issues as I was just putting around the snags throwing plastics or lures with not much maritime around if any at all. A mate convinced me to go fish lake mac and thats when the trouble began. I reckon I fished there a dozen times with at least half of those times receiving a warning for not having a licence and operating a boat capable of greater than 10 knots. Yet the boating hand book states the following; "The speed at which a boat is driven determines whether a person needs to be licensed. Any person who is the master of a powered vessel operating recreationally on NSW waters at a speed of 10 knots (18.5kph) or more must have a boat driving licence. Ten knots is the speed at which most accelerating boats will start to plane – that is rise up and skim on top of the water instead of ploughing through it. The exception is that anyone who drives a personal watercraft (PWC) at ANY speed must have a PWC Licence." Trying to agrue the point didnt get anywhere, yet other times when pulled up everything was fine.. Go figure... Cheers Choicebro
  8. Sad to hear, condolences to the family. It seems to be happening all to often these days.... May we all take heed and take appropriate cautions when on the stones. Cheers Choicebro
  9. Keen for some organised activity, happy to help out where I can. Preference to assist for anything local to my location. Cheers Choicebro
  10. Great looking tinny mate, plenty of advice here if you can give us a bit more info; Location intending to fish, either local to you or areas you are willing to travel to. target species etc. Cheers Choicebro
  11. Awesome mate, what a great read! So happy for the lad and that smile on his face is what it is all about. Heres hoping that the enthusiasm continues and we get to read about many more of Rob's adventures. For the record, I too get that feeling everytime I hook up and land a good fish and thats why I enjoy the challenge of what we all love and that's called fishing. Cheers Choicebro
  12. Cool, thanks mate. I will have to look into both as I'm still trying to develop the right setup to suit me. Can you post or PM me a pic of the downrigger, I'm keen to make one since the prices of them are a bit scary. I also am not keen to drill holes on the gunnel so a clamp on job would suit me better. Cheers Choicebro
  13. Got a couple of bait size when I first saw you at Salmon, went to Jibbon and got 2 good sized about 35cm ish. Had a flick back at Salmon for nothing on the way home. It was all about getting a feed today. Using a mix of yamashita naturals in silver and neo's in rainbow 2.5's Just finished dinner of salt n pepper squid and soba noodle salad. I like your setup, am looking at making a live bait tank but can't decide on wether to make a portable or an inbuilt one. Also, is that a down-rigger on the starboard rear clamped to the rail? Cheers Choicebro
  14. Was that you in the orange 420? If so, I was in the white nomad 440 Cheers Choicebro
  15. Got onto a few today. Persistance is paying off Still trying to refine my technique, have found that I tend to rush the retrieve and need to slow myself down a bit. All in all, still learning and coming home with a feed today is a great bonus Back to work tomorrow, dammit Cheers Choicebro
  16. Hey Mate, Yeah I'm having the same problems at the same spots funnily enough over the last couple of weeks. Have tried a selection of lures and various techniques and keep coming up with donuts. Will keep persisting and see how I go. Cheers Choicebro
  17. Awesome mate, persistence pays off. Well done. Cheers Bro
  18. Dont think so, there are some rules to follow though.... Link here Cheers Bro

Hey mate, Check out the knots link at the top of the page, plenty of help there. I use a leader length of what I am comfortable with for what I am targeting, but usually start with a leader length the same as my rod length. My reason behind this is the length allows for re-rigging due to abrasion etc when fishing around snags etc, and also at a pinch when I cant re-tie a leader to main line in rough seas I can easily tie on a swivel using a simpler knot then tie on a leader of the same length and it still has similar cast characteristics. If that makes sense. Cheers Kel
  21. Hey mate, Awesome pics, looking forward to catching up and hearing the tales in a week or so. Cheers Kel
  22. Yumm, Nothing like a feed of greasy salty muttonbirds. Popular with the alot of folk back in NZ
  23. Notoriously slow, mine usually takes 3-4 weeks. Last time I queried it, Maritime said as long as I have the reciept number that would be ok if I get stopped. Cheers Kel
  24. 13th -14th suits me, Drop me a PM when you get back and we can take it from there. Cheers Kel Oh yeah, and enjoy ya trip
  25. Great pics Paddy, saves me a trip down to suss it out. How shallow do you think it is? I launch from my local ramp at Tonkin St, Cronulla. Surely it can be as bad as that?? Cheers Kel
