  1. What an awesome fish that is. You could almost step inside it for shelter. Congrats Mate that will take some beating.

    Where Is....

Looks like Thompsons Creek Dam looking back towards the Dam Wall. I could be wrong as last time I got to that area I was almost crawing. Regards
  3. I have "The Prince" a minnow type lure that I have just changed the hooks and rings on. Caught some gtreat Tailor over the years . It is white with a red head and various chomp marks down the length of the lure. Regards
  4. All, I didnt catch this either and am still to break my duck. These pictures were sent by my Brother Graeme and are of a family friends son. The fish in question was caught in the Bellinger River and yes on a 4 inch bass minnow. How he got that thing in on a flick stick is beyond me but that is one hell of an effort and has the locals talking. Thought this might keep your trigger fingers itchy over winter. Regards Big Bob
  5. Sounds like a great day. Good that you caught a nice variety. Regards
  6. All, Off to Lake St Claire this weekend fishing for bass. Have loaded up a spare rod with 3 colours leadline, got the poopers sorted, and the olds have shrimp and worms for bait. In between all that I would like to know about jigging for Bass. Have a fair amount of soft plastics with large jig heads. Will they do? Any info would be much appreciated. Regards
  7. Me and the Misses are headed to Lake St Claire for some recreational pursuits. Want to know about jigging for bass see post.
  8. Great Post Rainbows are fine but Browns are a harder to catch and a real thrill when you do. Regards
  9. Launched from Woy Woy Lions Park and headed to the Flathead Grounds. Small swell 1/2 metre. Dropped over some Pilchards and as soon as my sinker hit bottom picked off. Repeated this for about 20 minutes. Got serious and landed 3 nice size leatheries. Not a Flattie in sight. Leatherjackets in plague proportions and biting off everything I threw at them. Back to East Reef for 3 pan size snapper,1 humungous Seargent Baker which was returned. Also caught one of the biggest squid I have ever had the pleasure with its equally sized mate following it for the ride. Returned same. Altogether not a hugely successful day but got a feed. Seems to be a lot of Snapper on the closer reefs at the moment. Water was 21 C. Regards
  10. 12 lb is my biggest I have dreamed of a fish like that.Great catch maybe Whyalla is my only hope.
  11. Fish was caught at Urunga near Coffs Harbour.Jacks are usually caught in more Tropical waters but I think they may be available even further South. Like to hear from any one who has caught one south of this area. Regards
  12. A Kelly Pole is a piece of cane usually about 14 feet long.Instead of runners up the cane the line is tied in loops most of the length of the cane to give it stability and strength The line is usually the same length as the rod and contains a wire leader. You just drop the tip of the rod off the break wall into the water When a large fish is caught such as a Jewie or Jack the wire sings as the fish pulls from side to side. Quite an effective way to present live bait . And yes Joe they are a very pretty fish that is suited to aquariums but if youve ever tasted one I thinkyou would agree that the dinner plate is also a good place. Regards
  13. Yeah looks like he was really living the situation.
  14. Wish I could take the credit Hookem but photo is of my brother Graham last Tuesday night. Bait was 4 soldier crabs and I bet that wire off the Kelly was singing a treat. Regards
  15. Great read and a great catch.Im yet to break my duck on a Kingie although others have caught them on my boat.
  16. Awesome enough fish on normal tackle but a Kelly Pole???? I was suitably impressed.
  17. Picture sent to me by my Brother Graham of his 4.5lb Mangrove Jack caught Tuesday night.
  18. Have you thought about a good Bait Runner instead. Shimano had an extended warranty of 10 years when I last checked. The BTR3500 holds 305 yards of 8 lb line with 3 ball bearings and is a good smaller reel for Flatties. Retail is about $195 from a shop but you may be able to do a better deal from Fishing Tackle Australia or some other like store. Okuma also has a great range.
  19. Thanks guys for the advice.Regards
  20. Thanks Stick Bisbane Water is looking good instead. The poor bloody Bream hope they leave a few for future expeditions.
  21. Hi, have been into the SPs for about 1 month now and have been having some success as of late recently in the Kalang River at Mylestom and Urunga around the oyster leases. Im hooked on this type of fishing. I am going to the Hawkesbury on Friday launching at Mooney Mooney point. I planned to fish Mooney Mooney creek but have not been up this part of the river before. Is this a good spot and any hints about how far up the creek is fishable. Is it very shallow etc up past snake island. Any info or tips would be appreciated. Regards
  22. Try St Georges Basin its a nice Estuary with some great Bream fishing.
