  1. All, Launched fr Patonga at about 7.30 am and proceded to Juno for some Low Tide Jewie action.Dropped Witches hats upstream a little. Quite blowy on Ocean side so anchored around the corner. Burleyed continually for nothing but a Wobby which had us hoping with a few nice runs on the Epix EB80. Picked up he nets for 2 crabs both small and returned. Then proceded to Parramatta Wreck and dropped nets again on opposite side. Anchored close to Oyster lease and hooked a nice 1.5kg bream then nothing again. Picked up nets and 1 keeper bluey. We were about to go back to Juno for a High Tide Session but family duties beckoned and we had to high tail it home. Boy was it rough coming back but we left vowing to Brain em next time. Thats fishing I suppose.
  2. Thanks 4 the clarification guys nowI can sleep much easier knowing that I can get a feed of crabs without any trouble with Fisheries. Regards
  3. I have been putting in Witches hats for about 3 years and had no idea that I was doing anything illegal. I would like some more info if anyone has any. I was under the impression that this Lake was ok and it was only Brisbane Water that was banned. I put my name and boat rego and carry the max 5 per person. Regards

    Boat Retreival

That sounds pretty darn reasonable to me.Must give it a try.
  5. All, I would like to find out the various methods that are employed catching Bass. I have Trolled 5m+ divers and bait fished but seem to be missing the point. Quite often I have arrived back without a fish or a catty or 2 (yuk) and seen boats with a lot of bass. Recently I asked (while trying not to look like a complete dill) how they caught them and received an answer WITH LURES? I was watching Bushie and Rex at a dam in the Southern Highlands and they were using Spinner baits and soft Plastic Minnows. As you probably know I am a big Soft Plastics fan. Any advice would help I plan to go to Lake St Clair shortly for the day and would like to do the Lure thing casting not trolling. I have a variety of HBs that I was assured caught fish on certain days and some Plastics in Minnow type. What do you reckon? Regards

    Tassie Fishing

You never mentioned what part of Tassie you were going to visit. North of Launceston there is some salt water fishing off the Wharf at Beauty Point. There is a Sea Horse farm on the wharf so you cant miss it. At Stanley there is another wharf just behind the Nut for some salt water action. St Helens on the East Coast is the prime salt water spot,Bicheno nice beach fishing. Large Bream inhabit the estuaries near Hobart and I mean LARGE. If you are into trout fishing Arthurs Lake is the primo spot but there are umpteen lakes and rivers in the Central area of Tassie for catching trout on bait and lures or if your into Fly. Tassie Devil lures worked well for me in Pink. B4 I went I checked out the web and it came back with some great info try this URL. http://www.fishonline.tas.gov.au/ Tassis is the home of trout but there is ample opportunity for other fish that we dont see here. Great place to see especially at the time of year your going. Have a nice trip Regards Big Bob
  7. Thanks Guys, As usual a generous amount of info. Will let you know how we go Thanks again Big Bob
  8. All, Looking at accomodation at Glenbawn preferably Cabin style 2-4 people will be staying 3-4 days. I have looked at Glenbawn Holiday Village and they have self contained Villas for 4 people. Have any Fishraiders stayed there ? My wife is not into fishing so we would not be roughing it especially I will be taking the boat of course so security would be important and proximity to a boat ramp. As you can see I have not been there before so any info would be appreciated. Regards
  9. They should be alright. I have not tried those but have had great success on Flatties with the Berkeley Minnows(They have a forked tail). The smaller 3 inch ones good and are the only ones that I have had success on Bream but a very small jighead is needed (1/16oz size 2 ) I have also caught Flathead on these but due to the small jighead have only used them in about 6 feet of water around oyster racks and across shallow sandbanks. The last time I went I used the 4 inch with a slightly larger jighead in Tuggerah Lakes as I needed a good cast and Bingo Flatties. I think the thing to remember about SPS is the slow retrieve . Throw it out and give 1 short twitch of the rod then a longer one and let the SP drop to the bottom. Leave it for a few seconds wind in the slack and repeat.Dont pull too hard. If you can check the action in a swimming pool you will see how this works. Berkely come in a couple of good colours but Watermelon is my favourite followed by Bloodworm. I find that 1 or the other will be on it just depends on the day . Gamakatsu are a good one jig head and your SP will not tear as easy because of the way they are constructed. Plastics are a great way to fish. Good Luck and dont be disheartened if your not successful straight up. The first fish you catch will have you addicted to this way of fishing Regards

  13. Harbour prawns a risk to health By Vera Devai December 4, 2005 PRAWN fishing has been suspended in Sydney Harbour because of toxic dioxin levels found in the shellfish. Fish are not believed to have been affected but will be tested as a precaution. High dioxin levels can pose a potential health risk over the long term and have been linked to serious diseases such as cancer. There are 20 commercial fishers who harvest prawns from Sydney Harbour and the industry is quite small. In 2004-2005, they accounted for only 5.5 tonnes of the total prawn harvest, or less than one per cent of the traditional supply to local seafood markets. Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said the ban affected commercial and recreational prawn fishers and would remain in place until the dioxin levels were safe. "This closure applies to Sydney Harbour prawn operators only," Mr Macdonald said. "A range of fin-fish species will also be included in the emergency sampling as an added precaution." Further tests would be carried out as a matter of urgency, he said. "We are hopeful to have the results before Christmas so that we can provide certainty to fishers in the Sydney Harbour," Mr Macdonald said. Sydney Harbour prawns were generally supplied to particular markets and this temporary closure is not expected to impact the broader availability of locally grown prawns, he said. The NSW Food Authority expressed concerns that regular consumers of harbour prawns could be at risk and recommended the suspension. It comes in addition to several other bans already in place, including all fishing in Homebush Bay and Duck River because of contamination concerns. The Sunday Telegraph
  14. Near the Bridge on the northern side.My advice is take your Blackfish rod and fish under the Bridge on that side.Youll see a little Wharf there and fish around the pylons Regards
  15. All, After being landlocked for ages with bad weather ,house stuff and work decided a land base SP was on as the swell was quite huge for outside. Took a drive to Blacksmiths beach in Newcastle and arrived just as the tide was starting to run out. Not a bite on the Berkely minnow and even contemplated but resisted getting some bait. Spoke to a local who had a nice feed of Blackfish and I wont be caught without my Kit next time. Drove back to Tuggerah Lakes and scored 2 nice Flatties on SPs. Same old story when told that last week was the go with everyone scoring well on Flatties. Some huge mullet were around so switched to a small float and Blackfish hook. Started berlying with bread and was in the process of pulling in a nice Garfish when it got off right near my possie. Then hooked a duck in the wing and had to administer first aid and remove the hook. Certainly had the drag humming till I got it in and operated. Saw some nice legal bream caught and Blackfish again were plentiful for 2 gents under the Bridge. All in all an enjoyable day.

    New Boat Arrives

Dora creek runs into Lake Macquarie right opposite Pulbar Island which is the large island in the middle. Your in a great spot there mate just in time for Blue Swimmer season. I fish the part where the creek enters the lake for Flatties. Regards
  19. > Robbo, It was caught on a live mullet about 18cm long with 8/0 suicide hook > in the Kalang River just below the overflow. I won " Fish of the week" and > was leading in "Fish of the year" but some guy from down at Nambucca Heads > weighed in a Flatty at 7.6 kg. "What a Monster" I asked him how he caught it and this was the eply for interested parties. Regards Ps Love he new Format

  21. Read with some interest a few posts by members about concerns with Ethanol in there boat motors and found some info on this.I f any members have more to share please do. The site is the 2003 Marine Manufacturers Fuel Recommendations and one could only hope that warranty is applicable to this. http://www.ethanolrfa.org/2003marine.pdf
  22. Not sure if it was farmed but I caught it on the Huon River and I believe there is some sort of release program there. Salmon take longer to mature than Trout and as a result are not the preferred farmed species. Cooked this on a BBQ with lemon and onion and spice stuffing wrapped in foil. 15 mins a side and it tasted great a lot like trout in tecture. Had 2 browns follow my lure right to my feet that I estimated at about 4 kg but they werent interested enough to have a go. Trout in Tassie stick close to the shore and dont congregate in the middle as they do in NSW due to the temperature being freeking freezing continually. Ideal for Lure fishing all in season. Regards
  23. Lovely with Lemon and onon stuffed
  24. All, Just got back fr Tassie and had the opportunity to got fishing for Trout with a spin outfit I took and low and behold my first Atlantic Salmon 60 cm mouth to fork and 2kg clean.
