  1. Have you got a pic of the fly per chance?
  2. Great report jani. Got me excited for my next fishing/camping trip
  3. Geez. You guys make jews look like bream!
  4. Awesome pics indeed Stan, look forward to more.
  5. I've only just gotten around to giving 'em a go. Don't mind em, but I find it harder to rig the plastic straighter and sometimes find you end up with a cup face on the z-mans which mean they don't seem straight. Might just take some getting used to. Wouldn't have expected the sambos further west than I was, but there ya go. Yet to give Iron Cove a red-hot go, might end up with a bit of free time this afternoon so your idea of an evening session may well be on the cards. Let you know how I go in this wind.
  6. Fantastic come-from-behind win. Re-reading about the king in the first match brings a tear to the eye, even if it was QLD's loss.
  7. Thanks guys! Fishing's a fickle mistress Windy! I was fishing the Parra again on Sunday and it was by far the quietest session I've had in a while. No a salmon to be seen and I only managed one lonely flatty. My hang over may have had something to do with it but the fishing seemed to have been trending down for me anyway. How far up the river did you have to go for the salmon (no need to be too specific)? Was hoping for one final crack but thought I'd missed 'em. The one in the video was from a couple of weeks back and even he seemed like a bit of a straggler. Side note about the conditions on Sunday: Was the first time in ages the water has been as coloured. We found it to be a similar algae green as you get in summer. Recent warm weather maybe? Heaps of decent sized jelly prawns near the surface on the shore edges - nothing seemed to be harassing them though. Salmon went 55cm and was taken on a Z-man Grub. The fish just keep eating 'em! I've been making an effort to mix it up but can't seem to catch much other than rocks at the moment. Has to be one of the top 2 curl-tails of all time.
  8. Been lucky enough to get out almost weekly for the past month. August has definitely seen the fishing get tougher - bream numbers and size have dropped and the salmon have pretty well moved out of the upper Parramatta bays compared with July. The chopper tailor feel like they're back with quite a few caught around the rose Bay shallows. Also managed a couple of pike in the same area - seem to be a few people catching them at the moment. Not a lot of luck on the flathead as yet but the odd smaller specimen has popped up. Spring's not far off though. Almost everything was caught on a z-man grub but had a bit of luck with gulps too and also managed a chopper on a home made fly (a Saltwater first for me).
  9. Good work! Was out fishing the parra with a mate yesterday and I gotta say it was the quietest session we've had in months. Not quite a donut but not far off. Hats off for persisting.
  10. Did you get a measure? Pretty sure this qualifies as a Fishraider record
  11. One reason only - more bites. Had a session over summer where I spent a couple or hours fishing with 8lb leader for zip. Changed to 4lb and had two bream in two casts immediately. Currently fishing 3lb vs nick's 4lb. Using the same lures, both catch a similar amount of fish but the quality is better on the lighter line. Last two sessions, 3lb has produced bream 31-36cm vs 28-31cm on 4lb.
  12. They were up the river as far as concord two weeks ago. Been around since may. Should be heading back to the heads soon if not already.
  13. I've got a daiwa td commander tiger division (discontinued) matched with a pflueger supreme xts2000 reel, running straight through 3lb sunline sniper fluorocarbon. Nick fishes a 7' 1-3kg nitro paired with a daiwa luvius 2004 size reel, running 6lb j braid to 4lb sunline rock fc leader.
  14. Mid 30s is always nice, even better after time away from the water. What was the lure, out of interest?
  15. Good fish! The quality of bream from there has been good recently.
  16. Hen and chicken Bay. Cut my teeth on fishing here. Awesome if you wanna hone your luring skills.
  17. Catana is good for the price but pretty stiff. From memory the 8ft is a snapper rod so no good for light weights. You'll be better off sticking with the trion. As per arc's post, spend a bit more on a raider, they do a 7'6 bream rod which will be perfect for casting light lures long distances. If you really want the ideal outfit get the daiwa kung fu prancer. 7'6", 1-3kg and casts the light stuff a mile. Weighs nothing too. Costs a bit tho.
  18. Hi Blaxland, Not fishing braid - I'm using straight through flurocarbon. Nice and stealthy, and I never have to worry about retying leaders. If you're fishing straight braid I'd definitely whack on a couple of metres of leader material though. All lures are attached using a lefty's loop knot. Easy, strong and allows the lure to swim with maximum action. If I'm bait fishing or using dry flies I'll tie a half blood knot.
  19. Colours - anything naturalish, ie motor oil, bloodworm, watermelon, gudgeon. Jigheads - 1/16th down to 1/24th. Retrieve - sometimes hopping, sometimes slow rolling, sometimes a combination of both. Sometimes deadsticking, followed by 3-4 quick hops while rolling will provoke a strike. Best fish recently have come either on the drop or first lift after the lure hits the water.
  20. ^What flickn mad said. Today was definitely breezy but a PB and new species will always alleviate some discomfort. Good stuff.
  21. Thanks mate. Hard to go past the grubz. Versatile, tough and effective. What more could ya want? Nah, most of the fish were caught during the runout. I find things get quiet during the slack water. No run, no fun as they say. I think we've just been eating too much S Factor.
  22. Fished the usual area around Concord with the usual buddy for the usual suspects & ended up having quite a good little session. Armed with our light spin gear (I was fishing 3lb fluro straight through, Nick had his 6/4 braid/leader) and a few plastics, we found the water to be clearer than we ever remember seeing it. Coupled with a weak tide & little to no wind, we weren't sure how much joy we would have. Ended up with 7 bream between us (28-36cm), 3 whiting (31, 39 & 41cm respectively), 2 flatties (to 50cm) and a half decent flounder, all caught in less than a couple of feet of clear, cold water. The salmon were nowhere to be seen. On tackle - the Zman grubz proved the winners again, despite me trying a few other options (gulp crabbies, 3 inch nemesis, hard bodies and a soft vibe). I like the nemesis, but compared to the zmans, it takes a lot more to get the tail swimming. Not ideal when you need to slow things right down. Anyway, here are the moving pictures:
  23. Top read and I like the system. Looking forward to the round 3 highlights.
  24. I love the 6lb. First coupla sessions with it resulted in birds nests, but once I adjusted my cast to suit to the diameter (ie cast gently) it's been happy days. It's a lot more supple than other braids.
  25. That last flattie in the pics looks around 40cm, yeah? If that's the little one that raced up, the big one it pipped must've been massive. Nice report
