  1. Hi guys, I have just bought my 1st bag of Grubs and TT jig heads. Im taking some friends around the lakes this weekend and wondered if anyone had some tips on how to use them in fresh water and where to throw them? Cheers guys
  2. Probably an onld wives tale. But dont they eat carp for Christmas in Austria and eastern Europe? I have heard they keep it alive in the bath and then place it into ice so it shuts down reducing stress levels. I'll give it a go. I'd rather find a use for them rather than just bashing them on the head and throwing them in a bush.
  3. If you are coming any further all the lakes in the ACT hold redfin in plague numbers. Im heading out, on my one good leg, on sunday if you are in the area.
  4. Wow! Thank you for sharing that!!!!!! I have just lived vicariously through you. I’ll still be on crutches when we head to the tropics in October L Thank you again for sharing that
  5. Hey guys, I've had a little accident on the rugby field and smashed my leg up quite nicely. Im going to be in plaster for at least another 12 weeks and there is no way im going that long without wetting a line. I just wondered if I can tap the unfathomable knowlege of the raiders and see if any one knows of some easy access fishing spots on the South Coast that arent fished to death? Really appritiate the help.
  6. The salmon where in about a meter of water, tight to the beach on the 10th You would have driven past us on the wall.
  7. Hi guys, Just thought i'd let you know about my last outing. Nick and I packed up the car after celebrating a good win on saturday night and headed down to the coast on sunday..... a little dusty. Stopped off at Batemans bay to try and pick up some livies off the warf but the tide was powering through so we decided a block of pillies would have to do for the night. We got to the break wall at Moruya after dark and trudged up to the end. Which was a bit of a laugh as my mate is in a space boot with a broken foot. The idea was to see if anything was lurking in the eddie at the end of the wall on the run out tide. We set up a couple of paternoster using whole pillchard on one and cubes on the other, and began the wait. On a side note, a hell of alot of shooting stars. Did anyone else find that? It wasnt long before there was a few bounces on one of the rods. In came what I called a carpet shark (please feel free to correct me as I think thats a Kiwi term. Looks like what we call a dog fish in the UK.) Back she went. About 45 mins later there was a huge thump on my beach caster then nothing. I watched....waiting for a run... another bounce... anything. Not even a twitch. So I thought I'd better rebait. Sweet jesus it was heavy! Bloody sea weed in the run out...? Then off it went, some massive thumps and took some 50lb line off the spool. It was a banjo shark, pushing the meter mark. Its the first one I have caught. Do they always make a baking noise? anyhoo, back she went. We also called it a night. Time for a power nap On the way back down the wall we found some pretty big pools of blood where some one had clearly been having some luck in the breakers. So out went a couple of pillies. Man the salmon were on the chew! Everytime the fog rolled in our rods went off. Being half asleep we werent effecient, but pulled in 2 at 55cm and lost 2 about the same size on the winch up the wall. Really good night. Might have to get down there again before the baby comes along in August Here is me and my mate the barking ray.
  8. Hi guys. I just wondered if anyone has heard if there is anything running south of Jervis Bay? Im organising a trip with some mates over sunday night as conditions look idea at this stage. 9. SMn - well done mate. Bet your chuffed. Just taken a tube from work so I can fly some gear ip tomorrow Jew stalker- that the biggest one I've seen to. I guess they might get a bit bigger than that. I'll have to keep trying.
  10. Just above the join for the top section of a 2 piece.
  11. Hi guys, After my accident in sydney, is there any way to repair a graphite rod once it breaks. Its not in 2 pieces but pretty splintered. Any advise? Thanks
  12. Congratulations mate. We have one due in August and I maaaaaaay have been looking for a set up. There are little pink or blue combos avaliable that are about 3 foot long. Perfect for catching Yakkas for Daddy to use as bait. Good luck
  13. Growing up where i did, if we didnt fish in a bit of Drizzle we would never have gone fishing! One tip though...... Watch out for lightning when you are holding a 13 ft piect of carbon! Good luck
  14. Dont do that to me!!!!!! I still havent landed one
  15. Not sure, It was a good tug that broke it. Would a sambo hit a SP at night?
  16. First time I have tried it. Really firm flesh, subtle flavour, browned up a treat. Yeah Chris. If anyone ever needs a suit of armour I'd say make it out of Pearch skin! Tough as hell!
  17. Good day to you all. I would like to share with you my last 2 expodaitions. On sunday we took the dogs round Lake Burely Griffen for the RSPCAs million paws walk. The sun was shining and the wind was behaving so I packed my spin out fit in the car just in case. The walk took a little longer than anticipated as my legs were still ont he rugby field and more than a little bruised. Our good deed done for the day I took the mrs and the dog to plack mountain penninsular to try out my new TT spinner bait. I am keen to get into some natives and found some good loojking banks and fallen lumber to try my luck with. We found a likely looking spot on a very steep bit of bank with some nice falen trees. It took 3 casts to hook up. No warning just one almighty thump and some very fast shakes. It felt like nothing I have ever hooked before. I started to get a bit excited as it took some line. I was wondering if this is what a Yellow belly might feel like............ Clambering over the rocks with legs like jelly can't have looked too elegent, but I got down to the waters edge to get a glimps of colour. It looked green, with really high dorsal fins....... but it was pretty big. It looks to dark to be a yellowbelly and its the wrong shape for a cod. Maybe this is something I havent read about....... Any whoooo, after a last little tustle I pulled out this chap. Just a shade over 33cm. She was full of row and in really good nick. So she came home to become a stir fry. That evening I flew to Syd for work and took my gear with me. Thanks to the advise from others here I headed to pier 2 with some 4inch gulp minnows and a 1/2 oz jig head to get down there. What a pretty spot at night!!!!!!!!!! A few casts and a few dropped bites just twitcing it along the bottom the CRAAAACK!!! The top half of my Garcia Voyager snapped! It must have got chiped on the flight. I am absolutly gutted, it was my fave set up. Oh well best start saving for a replacement. Thanks for reading guys.
  18. On the way now! Thanks again
  19. Well I've just got off the plane. Waiting to see my gear on the carosel. Where abouts is pier 2? I have just the jig head for such occasions cheers guys.
  20. Hey guys. Just a quick one. I've got a night in Sydney tomorrow. Is there anywhere I can chuck a few softies around that's easy to get to at night? Cheers all
  21. Im stuck on the banks to, and am slowly learning things out here. I'd say you have to work a bit harder in the winter and pick your targets more carefully. Last year bream and salmon were my focus and that seemed to pay off. The other benefits of the colder months...... No one else is daft enough to be out at your fave spot on a cold clear evening. So wrap up, take a flask of coffee with a drop of brandy in and enjoy the serenity.
  22. Cracking stuff mate. Good on the mrs to. Must have been a bitter sweet thing seeing the Kingie run off with your bounty. I'd say that counts as a hook up
  23. I wonder if a maximum size on all fish is a good idea for preserving fish stocks. As with Flatties you would only be supposed to take fish between the size of X and Y. This would preserve the best breeders (helping to boost overall numbers) and also mean that they were still out there to be caught again (bonus for us). Any thoughts? Foot note - I base this on absolutly no facts. I'm just trying to use common sence.
