  1. Nice effort on the jewy and congrats on it been your first! Your persistence has paid off. Fresh bait is certainly the key to catching jewys! They can be sensitive to release as they put a lot of their effort into the fight. This is why they generally come into the boat belly up in my experience. Smaller ones usually return to the water ok, but they will put the school off when released. As for the chewed yakka, it could be soapies (smaller Jew) or small tailor about. That size Jew should taste nice on the plate anyway!!! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. Hey groper! Nah never tried sashimi from bonito!I have kingfish, salmon and yft. Just not a big fan of bonito. But they make great bait. I always pick up 5 or 6 at the end of each trip. Cheers scratchie!
  3. There's some good spots for flatties over your side. I'm just yet to find them! Go on ya getting ya mate on fish! That would be most people's PB. Cheers scratchie!!!

  10. Nothing like seeing the silver flash coming up in water column. Never get tired of that sight. Congrats on the PB. Hope that meter one is just around the corner! Cheers scratchie!!!
  11. Yeah mate you can use the yellow buoys. They are public buoys but u can only Moore there for 24hrs. Waratah bay would be a great place for a first timer there. Try and get the buoy closest to the channel. Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. Yeah they did.... I felt a bit cruel but watching him reel it in was great. With the right drag setting on the rods I was using might have been a bit underwhelming!Cheers scratchie!!!
  13. Lol......didn't mark it, but it was last seen heading east towards NZ at a rate of knots!Cheers scratchie!!!
  14. If it was my tyrnos50, I was swimming for sure! Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. Boat: haines hunter IDH209N call sign:scratchie Port stephens area Channel 86
  16. Point taken. But it was more of a drag issue than anything! Lesson learnt. I loved that rod too!Cheers scratchie!!!
  17. I went out today to get amongst the fish. While a school of something swam past I was distracted by the noise of my bait runner peeling off. As I went to pick it up, it stopped but I failed to notice my other shimano skiing along the water until it was to late! So if anyone is fishing the port stephens area and they see a big fish with a rod hanging off it, pm me please!!! Lol Cheers scratchie!!!
  18. Nice Jew! Congrats on the pb. Cheers scratchie!!!

  21. No bib. Just 2 6inch skirts! One green one blue bonito color!Cheers scratchie!!!
  22. Nah, used two small skirts. It was great watching them actually hit them. I was trolling with 3 rods but thought my tyrnos 50 was overkill. LolCheers scratchie!!!
  23. Headed out today with one of the relo's and decided to troll for something big! As we ventured out the heads the swell was much bigger than predicted. So time to change tact and make the trip more comfortable for the brother in law. Knowing he's never really caught a big fish before or been in the ocean for that matter, I chose to just troll some small skirts around big and little island. After 20mins of trolling I was approaching my Bonnie spot and said to the inlaw getting ready. 5 seconds later, zzzzzz were on! So I picked the rod out and handed it to my inlaw and for his first ever decent fish I though it would be a great fight for him if I backed off the drag!! Oh the smile on his face as he winded it in. It should have taken a minute on 50lb line but with the drag set light the 7min fight was great! On the inside I was laughing but the pleasure it gave the inlaw was priceless. We worked the spot for a total of 40min and managed 5 bonito and I didn't even wind the reel. But the feeling of getting the inlaws onto the fish of a lifetime for them was priceless! Looking forward to heading out tomorrow to use them bonnies! It was really hard to explain that they were going to be my bait and not for eating! Lol..... Cheers scratchie!!!
  24. Well done prawn star!!! You deserve the award! That's two awards for the same fish. Hope it tasted good. Great to see a jewy win for a change! Congrats, cheers scratchie!!!
