  1. yes and there are alot in the harbour to! it doesnt surprise me that people are now trying to catch them as they are quite common if you know where to look
  2. mate i know of about 10 places where there are huge schools of surgeons up to 3kg in port hacking! found them all diving and have never tried fishing for them but i reckon they would be pretty hard to stop at that size. PM me and i will give you a tip on a place to start!
  3. I would be going with either Almaco Jack or juvenile Amberjack.
  4. looks like drummer to me mate. proper name is rock blackfish!
  5. i should have put that better....that fish is called a Bearded Cod however more commonly known as a ling in sydney! cheers
  6. that brown fish is a ling mate. they live in caves are pretty good to eat! nice white meat! cheers
  7. Exactly right billfisher! There is no comparison! The problem is that many people in sydney have never fished the areas now closed in the new marine parks and do not fully understand how bad they really are - both up and down the coast! Dont get me wrong if there was credible scientific evidence to support these parks most people would not have a problem but when there is none it really is a joke.....................
  8. Dont get me started on the bloody NCC!! They have openly said that they wont stop until at least 50% of all water is closed to fishing and they dont care about the lies they have to spin to get what they want. Just look at the crap about there only being 400 grey nurse sharks on the entire east coast. What a load!! Also wasnt it interesting today that the Greens came out and said all their preferences to go to Labor. Isnt this the exact thing that both parties have been denying regarding the implementation of the new marine parks?? I know a majority of people on this site are based in and around Sydney so dont really feel the effects of the new marine parks but if Labor win this election then believe me........Marine parks restricting Sydney will not be to far off!
  9. Anyone who really cares about their fishing WILL NOT vote for Labour in this election....... The recent marine parks they speak of are a joke based on zero scientific information purely to get preference votes from the Greens! Its absolute bullshit. The people who suffer from these unfounded marine park zones are us - the recreational fisher (not to mention people in towns like Bermagui and Seal Rocks who will lose valuable tourism dollars)!
  10. i live on the hacking and fish it nearly everyday but i find it hard to believe a 10kg yellowfin has been caught at the baths this summer. i hope it is true but would like to see a pic! i think the last time they were caught was about '92 at lilli pilli......... i know this is from another post but i would also like to see photos of the spotted mackeral apparently caught in a report last week! regarding the cobia a mate of mine caught a small one a few years ago there so they do occasionaly come in. this year we have been catching heaps of frigates, bonito, BIG tailor and rat kings and have also landed two small samsons. there is lots of bait in the river at the moment so i suppose anything is possible but i need a pic to believe! cheers forgot to add squidgie last year we also caught a fair few mack tuna (although small) as well as watsons leaping bonito!
  11. hey crazyjohn get your friend to post a pic of this yellowfin at lilli pilli. very sceptical but hope you can prove me wrong..........
  12. Its a Spinefoot mate. Also commonly called 'Happy Moments'. Make sure you dont get spiked by the bastards cause i can tell you from experience it bloody hurts!
  13. i live on the hacking to mate and the striped fish you caught would of been an Eastern Striped Trumpeter. also i wouldnt mind seeing a photo of one of your dart as i have never seen one in the river either while fishing or diving. cheers
