  1. ive never used them but by the looks of it texas rig on offset/worm hook or do that tricky needling thing (which someone else can elaborate on) as you you were to troll fresh squid. alot of people swear fresh is the best, but i dont see why a proper swiming gulp squid cant catch pelagics and jews?
  2. thanks for the replies guys, does the 850 and 950 have the same ratios and drag? can the spinfisher be used for jigging as well? i guess another option would be the speros but they seem more expensive than the spinfisher. are there any other similar reels that are in that price range? are the spinfisher's ratios high enough for popper work and jigging? besides rods like stalo stix shorespin, are there any other heavier longer spinning rods for lure work? thanks
  3. hey guys, thinking about getting a new setup for the rocks, will be spinning poppers, jigs, and plastics, and hb and livebaiting for kings, and all the other pelagics. was thinking about pen spinfisher 950ss, do you think this is a good reel? what kind of rod should i go for? - a lbg style 8ft 15-25kg? - a surf 10-12ft 8-15kg? - a surft 10-12ft 15-24kg? or do you have any other suggestions, will probably be fishing 5070lb typical kingy, gt rock outfit. what line class do you think i should go and should i a lo stretch mono, or braid for the rocks? what you guys think?
  4. hey fellas, just like to say a big tank you to all the tips you've given me. I landed my first sp king a few days ago, put a running barell sinker above the 6 inch sluggo let it sink texas rigged, then 3 quick rips, let it sink 3 quick rips mixing it up with some quick straight runs pauses etc. unfortunatly havent got photos yet but it was released and landbased which makes it all the better thanks for all the tips hopefully theres many more to come, the kings were really on the bite but it was my last sluggo!!!
  5. hey guys, firstly im chasing 2 inch power minnows and secondly im chasing 6 inch sluggos in packs in the white color, the tankjle shops ive seen only sell them singually. can someone point me in a good direction im in sydney buy dont mind ordering over the net. cheers
  6. thanks for the replies guys, so using the bottom hook wont minimise hookups because of the smaller size? makes me feel good that i didnt buy the wrong hooks!
  7. guys im just a bit confused with which size worm hooks for stickbaits, how big a hook should i use for 6 inch sluggos or those type of stick baits? ive just bought a box of worm hooks that are actually a size 5 but for some reason the size 4 hooks that i was recomended by the tackle store are longer, are these hooks made specifically for texas rigging? basically what i need to know is, are there any differences or missed hits if i used the size 5 hook with the shorter length, and also, where abouts is the hook supposed to be positioned along a 6 inch sluggo? in between the two lines?in front of the first of? note the shape of the two worm hooks, which one should i use? thanks
  8. the biggest chain of fishing stores is called triton fishing co. their biggest store is in wanchai, to be honest it wasnt as great as i expected but i got some cheap flurocarbon, jigging braids, some spinning rods, and some daiwa cy's for 80 bucks aud each, also picked up a set of swans cap glasses
  9. hey guys just when using bass minnows for kings ive seen a couple oft imes they come up to it to check it out, but no one seems to eat them, im using 4 inch power minows. does anyone know the technique or retrieve or colour or size minnow to get these kings to take it? cheers
  10. r.e the babyvibes, i havent caughrt much bass in my life, but everytime i have targeted bass, i have only ever caught them on the babyvibe frog color.
  11. hey guys, i find alot of spinning rods's handles are too long and ive herd of guys shortening them, just wondering if there was a proper way of cutting and refitting the butt of the rod? thanks
  12. great! i was kind of getting worried about that, tank god it happene din this day and age....don't you just love technology sometimes!?

    Nippers

when keeping anything from the sea alive, a airator does help, but its not really lack of oxygen that kills them, fish will shit and piss in the water, this breaks down into amonia which is toxic to fish, it eventually makes their gills unable to absorb oxygen or something along those lines. you best best it to do regular waterchanges, and since its overnight, it should be too much of a task.
  15. do they come in glow scales color?
  16. i find with plastics if u let them run too long they will eventually drop it. so u gotta find that middle ground as for smelling like fish, yes i totally agree, and i always have the flick stick in the back of the car with a little tacklebox with basic sp gear, whenever i pass a strtch of water or if i got time to kill on a break, or on my way home i can try to smash some bream.
  17. hey mate, congrats on the first hit, getting a first hit in your first session is a very good start, and by the way you described it and since it was a shrimp its most probably a bream, so getting a first hit let alone a bream hit you've done better than me and alot of ppl i know that first started, keep fishing plastics exclusively and you will be catching more fish than with bait in no time. another way to get you familiar with knowing what the line looks like when you get a touch is just to fish unweighted, bread or pillie cubes drifted to the bottom, leave a bit of slack in the line and let the fish run with it a metre before you stick, use this principle with plastics as well! this meathod is far too easy and not challanging but its good to get the feel of it.
  18. hey guys, when using a power minnow, i really preferr the traditional weighted jigheads, simple is better but do you guys think its better to go a texas rig or drop shotting for larger plastics like sluggos? it seems like everyone is using texas rig for sluggos is there a reason for this? whats the technique? how longs the leader between the sp and the swivel? i tried the texas rig on sluggo and hatted it, seems like there no direct communication with the bait, but rather it feels a bit unco. what do you do with sluggoes or what do you find is the best techique for sp kings? what do you guys do with the texas sluggoes? let it sink to the bottom then crank is fast with pauses? and also, do you really find bigger is better for kings? and white colors? just seems like a 9 inch sluggo is massive! i thought 4 inch power minnow would suffice. thanks guys
  19. I was a newby not long ago, I've found the bass minnows and squidgy wriggers best on bream while flatties will take anything. fish as light as the wing/current/depth will let you, the lighter the line and jighead weight the less the fish get spooked. i have found the jigheads without the the plug but rather the types that have the little hook to holf the plastic in place (eg squidgy finnesse) jigheads the best, because they dont have the annoying plug thing on the end of it that deforms the shape of the plastic. the hook quality also seems to be good. for a beginner, its also hell alot easier to rig up plastic wise, if the water's clear stick with natural colors, if its murky you might wanna try easier viasable colors or colors that cast a sillouette. some things to try are atomic fat grubs in 2 inch, squidy wriggles in bloodworm, bass minnow in watermelon 3 inch, gulp sandworm or turtleback worm in bloodworm, or camo. these and sx40's and halco scorpions and river2 sea baby vibes are the only things i ever use. for pelagics i only have ever used bass minnow in varying sizes with great success. The trick is to match the bait, if you see scools of bait 3 inch, use a 3 inch. bream are smart and are more hesitant in my opinion, smaller sizes will probably get more hits. i see everyone using shads for jewies, but i havent properly fished for jewies yet. make sure you always hit the bottom, i have caught all my bream when the lure is sitting on the bottom, and all my pelagics on the drop! knowing where the fish hold. I have a place that i have fished since i was 6, and i know exactly where they hold, i pretty much catch fish every time i go to my favorite spots. when im on unfamiliar ground, catching fish still is sometimes hard for me one mistake i had when first stating was not fishing them slow and soft, you dont need crazy jerks of the rod, soft enough to get desired action is enough. (for bream) for pelagics ive found they take them on the drop, and if nothing happens, rip is back up fast and let it drop again. finally, stick with it, i wasnt catching anything except for flatties and went back to using bait, then i stuck with it, refined my techniques im cathing flatties to small pelagics. now i am a plastic snob. i only fish plastics, its alot more rewarding when u catch things with plastic, even if its a 30cm tailor or flattie.
  20. hey mate thanks for the reply, how does the daiwa compare to the starlo medium tounament stick? i guess another option would be the Shimano SSX Shorespin 902, this is a 8.8 foot rod, its 5-10kg is this more suited for spinning off the rocks?
  21. hey guys, for heavier plastic work for kings and pelagics around the harbour, do you think the starlo snapper spin 5-8kg 2 piece or starlor tounament pro medium 4-8kg they are both 7ft3 is the tournament pro worth paying a little bit more for? also, since the tournament is rated at 4- 8 does that mean its a bit lighter than the snapper spin? was thinking of mating it with a 4000 class reel for pelagic work around the habnour on plastic, what do you reckon?
  22. we were once contemplating putting the lightest line we could buy and seeing if the yakka would tear any line off, i wonder if a yakka would make the drags sing on these babies?

    Bass Or Ep

i swear it was a bass, maybe cause i was targeting bass, and have never caught a ep on home turf. is this a bass or ep? sorry for the crap photos, it was a decent fight and i had to haul him over a fence, i wanted to get him back in asap.
  24. hey mate. not that i know of, a few occasional runs of the bonnies im told, i had to leave early.
  25. hey guy's i picked this nice fish up yesterday in the harbour, it was caught on pearl green 3 inch power minnow, squidgy finesse jighead, 6lf fireline and 15lb leader. can someone confirm it's a watson's bonito? seems they are subtropical? my mate also got a esturary cod in the same sitting, whats going on with the water temps these days? are they warming up? i thought esturary cod was subtropical/tropical species as well? tight lines!
