i caught this on my bream gear and u were right, it only went for 1 hard run, but boy, it was tearing line like an animal! i did kinda cheat, the leader was 15 pound, you'd be silly using anythign less around those pylons! i actually got hit a few times on that minnow, it seems they like to hit it on the drop

sup champ, i'm gavin, i was the asian guy with the shirt wrapped around the head when u left, i managed to score another makkie on a pearl green bass minnow, squidgy finness jighead, took him on 6lb fireline, least to say it was an sweet minute of action. also managed to jag one of those baby tailor with the minnow as well wich i thought was cool will post up pics soon, just gotta resize them i dont have photoshop mate ure truly representing the young guys out there showed up the old fellas bigtime. note- picture was taken after the fish was bled, i just shoved the minnow in his mouth for referece purposes

a friend has invited me to go on his relative's fishing charter tomorrow, i think its a pretty basic charter, not really aimmed for the more advanced fisherman (even though im not one myself). i think it's just going to be a bottom bashing sesion on the reefs. and i was wondering... would my sp bream/bass outfit be any useful out there? can i flick plastics on the reef? whats the technique? and what plastics and jighead will i need to use? Also with bottom bashing, are there any preferred jigs and bait? thanks guys!

Hey guys, I've been having this trouble as well, basically what's happening is because the line is so loose the line gets wound up above and beyond the spool. ive been loosing alot of line too mate i feel your pain. how much of the fireline have you guys on your reel's? what a good mono:braid ratio to have? tecnically we only need it so we can feel the bites right? also sorry to be specific, but how many mil's from the edge of the top of your spool should u have it filled up to? also regarding the backing, what weight and quality line are we using? thanks guys

thanks for the advice fellas, and one more question i know this has been discussed before, but whats the situation with using sp's at night? do they work? or is it only the gulp and glow in the dark types that work, what have been your personal expereinces with sp's at night

guys ive been hearing conflicting theories about which colour lures and sp's to ultilise when fishing different visability waters eg- some say bring colours for low visability, others say dark coloured to create sillouettes so what exactly is the rule of thumb. in particulur i am talking about the usual weapons of choise- hard bodies, bass minnows, gulp sand worms, atomic grubs, squidgies etc. whats you take on this? thanks

was fishing in valcluse some something took a live yakka on the bottom, something pulled on it, it wasnt a run so i left it, then when i come back there a constant bend on the rod, so i strike, and find back in, at first felt like i hit a snag, then it almost bloody pulled me in cause the drag wasnt set. so after loosening it up we fought, taking line was so painstakingly slow, it was 5y.o 6kg mixma fibreglow with 30lb leader anyway it wasnt so interesting, most of the time if felt like i was pullign on a snag, but it would do the occasional run, and sometimes i could take it in cm by cm. no happy ending with this one, right when it was about 6 metres under my feet and we were getting the fish up when it freaked and went on another run adn my line busted, when inspecting it the break was clean, so probally the maxima got cut up on something and busted off cleanly. what do you reckon it is? the fact that the whole fight was on the bottom, the fact that it feels like a snag cause it probslly buried itself under sand, the fact that it had exceptional pulling power, not the montion the stamina- 40mins and constanly being pulled on and not bargin and got for strong runs consistently. its gotta bea ray? a big mumma of a ray?

hey guys, i'm thinking of buying my first boat, i want to take it from small rivers holding bass to out to choppy waters for kingies and sambo's etc, is there such boat that will handle everything or do we need 2 boats? i was just wondering what were u opinions on centre and side console boats such as Stacer Sunfisher 455 as that's in my price range. am i right is saying bigger boats can handle shallow waters or small rivers better? will the example above handle little rivers such as lane cove freshwater section and how far will this boat take me? i assume not beyond the heads? thanks for the advice guys

hey there! its actually a rico marina metalium 4000 i guess its a less know brand but for the under 200 mark, it weas the choice for me, i could have forked out a 30 bucks more for daiwa but the daiwa has less bearings and didnt have the fat line guide thing (sorry bout the lack of termanology) i was a bit iffy aboutt he 4000 thing but apparently its the brand thing eg- shimano 2500, daiwa 2000, etc the whole setup including line and a pack of jigheads and plastics only cost me about 300

over the last few days ive gone down to my local river (1 min ride from my house) and usually, i get the bream on small hyabusa hooks on bread. today i was cheering from the fact i finished all uni crap and the year was coming to an end, decided to trat myself to a river2sea Baby vibe in frog now im pretty new to plastics and lures so yeah, havent really caught anything on them decent yet. so first i use the gulp fry 3" in pumkinseed and crack! something takes, it winding it is it's bloody tiny- its a taylor, but shit this fish was jumping like a billie!!! so after a while plastics obviously not working, couldnt be bothered going to powerbait minnow 3" so i said lets crack this baby open, tie the little baby on the line and bang hook up my first fish on the lure, another tailor, then i walked around the area with nothing, so i decided to go upstream freshwater and i cast around, then on the opposite bank i see a huge rock overhang and though- if i was a bass i would definatly be chilling there! so i walk across, and on the edge of the rock overhanging the water about 2 m above the surface, and i cast and retrieve when suddenly the drag goes ballistic!!!!!!!! while fighting this fish im constantly thinking "where the #$%^ am i gonna land this?!?! im 2 meters above the water with no access to the shore, this baby took me under the weeds and everywhere!!! but i didnt get busted!! i managed to land him on a bed of reeds where i slowly wrenched her up!! whatta beauty she was!!! the first bass of the season and a good size too!!! first decent fish on lure as well!! then i unhooked her and bolted down to the weir to release her, off she goes, at that point im making cheering noises with people around me thinking im on crack. i go back to the spot, and tyry a few more spots, none, so i head back to the weir for a few casts, after a few whack!!! another big hit!! shit!! this baby is taking more line than the one before!! she feels stronger too!!! had a 30second battle with her and the hook came out %#$%#$% andway it ried in vein for another 20 mins no luck. so here are the pics of the bass, and the bream for the last 2 days on bream. i only take fish of the legal ones so that'll give u an idea of the size, the reel is a rico marina metalium 4000, rod is a steve starling bass/bream 7footer, 6lb fireline, 6lb yamatoyo leader.

sorry to dig this thread out and hijack, but bought 3 inch fry berkley gulp and owner 1/32oz size 1 hook weedless jigheads, these hooks seem a bit too big...are they? also whats the proper way to rid these babies? thanks
