  1. You could have at least held it up for a picture - What a top fish. I hope you have plenty of friends as that is one hell of a lot of fish to eat. If I caught one half that size, I don't know what I would do with all the fish. I'd have to find some friends Well Done !!! Cheers Greg
  2. Hi Chris, welcome to the site. It depends what sort of fish you are after. All rock platforms are the same when it comes to gear ie long strong rod so you can cast distances and retrieve fish from around snags, heavy line, floats, balloons, hooks, sinkers, etc - all the usual stuff. You should also wear safety gear and rock shoes and fish with a friend for safety. Live bait is helpful, otherwise fresh bait, sp's, and lures. If you were successful at Coledale, the same gear should work at Bass Point. Bass Point has a bommie out the front, so if weather permits a long rod will help you cast out towards it. It also has some sheltered coves which you can use smaller gear in. Hill 60 is near the steel works and close to one of the 5 Islands and it is also a good spot from what I have heard. If you are more specific in what you are after, one of the regular South Coast fishos might be able to give you some more advice. Use the "Search" function and type in Bass Point, Hill 60 or the type of fish you are after. Cheers Greg
  3. Wow, that is a nice fish !!! I hope you have got a lot of friends as there would have to be 60kg of fresh fillets in that one!!! How many YFT recipes do you have? Tuna for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cheers Greg
  4. Our Drift Car is racing at Eastern Creek this weekend. We just put a Gen 3 V8 engine into it as we were having problems with the Nissan twin turbo engine. It should be a blast. Look out for it on SBS, Channel 9 and 10, as well as Fox sports in the coming weeks. Hopefully nothing goes wrong with it. Cheers Greg
  5. You should have posted this in the "Bloopers" thread Cheers Greg
  6. I carry around 10 rods in the boat and leave a few behind otherwise it is too cluttered (plus a few handlines). The boat looks like a porcupine!!! I installed a rocket launcher with 10 rod holders. I have 3 setup for live bait and squid I have 3 set up for trolling And the other 4 are setup for bottom bashing or casting at fads or schools of fish, etc. You can never have too many rods!!! I set them up the day before I go out and pre make leaders for different applications - lures, paternoster rigs, floating baits, etc and just clip them onto the snap swivel on the rod as I need them. I even have sinkers with a normal swivel one end and snap swivel the other end so they are sliding and can be clipped on and off in a hurry if needed. If we lose a rig, we just grab another rod or clip another leader on. This saves heaps of time trying to tie new rigs while out on the water, especially if there is a swell on, or a school of hungry fish. Cheers Greg
  7. Mrs Watto - wrong attitude girl !!! If all your customers only had 2 rods you would be broke !!! Everyone should have heaps of rods (and fishing gear) , and the less the knows, the better. Stay away from SMB (secret mens business - she's blonde so I had to explain it) Claudia - PS i will be the one hiding in the corner on Thursday night - next to Chris. Cheers Greg
  8. Nice legs, shame about the face !!! Nice fin too Should be nice eating. Cheers Greg
  9. Nice Red and welcome to the forums. If you think the forums are great now, wait until we all get back on the water and start catching some fish !!! Everyone is chomping at the bit, waiting to get amounst them. It's good to see a few reports filtering in, which relieves the borecom of sitting at work or home. Cheers Greg
  10. Hey Ross, With all this spare time on your hands, the next Workshop that you are presenting will have to be a corker !!! I can't wait. Anyone that hasn't noticed the next workshop, Ross is going to teach us how to catch YFT and Marlin. Check out the "Workshop" page and enter your name if you are coming. I hope there is a "Discounted Rate" for attendees of the workshop. Cheers Greg and see you there!!!
  11. The last time we were out there were hundreds of yakkas swimming around and they wouldn't bite. We threw out pellet burley, cat biscuits and bread crumbs and nothing worked. I put some tuna oil in a bucket with some water and mixed in the bread crumbs. Each time I threw over a golf ball size lump of burley the yakkas went into a frenzy and we were pulling them up 3 at a time. As soon as the burley had disappeared, so did the yakkas. The bags of bread crumbs are a bit over a dollar for a bag at Woolies or Franklins and well worth it. Bags of pelletised burley are around $10 a bag and don't work as well. Cheers Greg
  12. Hey Ross, you are fishing out of the Queen Mary. Think of us poor Trailer Boat fisho's, especially the guys in tinnies... We are bored sh!tless and can't even read fishing reports (as there is none). It's even been too wet to mow the lawn Maybe you will have to pre-make some rigs and oil the reels waiting for the next fishing trip. Some of us have to go to work, but your work is rained out as well. Maybe you will have to watch some DVD's Cheers Greg
  13. Bait casting nets are legal in Queensland but it takes practice to use them. I saw a guy using one in Yepoon Harbour and on top of bait he also caught a flattie and a bream. It is a lot quicker catching live bait this way. I was there years ago and they were catching salmon and tuna in the harbour. The guy next to me got spooled on light line in the evening. The water is a lot warmer up there than it is down here, so even if fishing is bad up there, it will be a lot better than it is down here. The weather should be a lot better as well. Let us know how you go. Cheers Greg
  14. Bread crumbs with tuna oil is great for yakkas. Use one of those Japanese bait jigs (available from Fishfinder Tony or Watto's - forum sponsors) and dump balls of the berley next to your bait jig. If the hooks are in the burley you will catch them easily. If you do a search on yakkas or squid rigs you will find pictures as this topic has been covered many times and the squid pictures are very good to show you how to pin them. Cheers Greg
  15. My 8 year old son caught a 54cm flattie on SP's at the end of the wall at Rushcutters Bay - up from the Cruising Yacht Club (from memory). Fish next to the house at the end of the dead end street and there is a sand bar there which gets wash off all the boats and waves. A lot of the rock platforms are supposed to be good, but dangerous in the weather we have been having lately. Cheers Greg
  16. Hey Kev, nice mate you are !!! And to think he begged you to ride in the back - priceless. Cheers Greg You should tell Ceph where it is. He will catch it for you Cheers Greg
  17. Glad the war paint worked. Top fish for a youngster. Cheers Greg
  18. At least your lure worked. What's that old saying? First the lure must catch a fisherman, before it can catch a fish. Well this one caught you twice, so it must work well on the fish!!!! Cheers Greg
  19. I think this sums it up perfectly. How many of you look like this, just waiting to go fishing I know I do. Cheers Greg
  20. In this crappy weather we might need snow gear instead of T shirts !!! I'll be interested in some for the warmer weather. Short sleeve for the milder weather and long sleeve for the stinking hot days and the colder days. Make sure you get some bigger sizes. Cheers Greg
  21. I am bored too!!! Maybe there should be a "Private Section" on the forum for the jokes ie Adults Only. On top of not being able to fish, no-one is fishing, so there are no reports to drool over which is double boring. We need some Interstate or Overseas members to make it interesting when we have crappy weather like this. Or, maybe we should just start a "BS" thread for a few laughs!!! Cheers Greg
  22. Looks like Greenseas or John West for a while though !!!
  23. When I said park next to the boat, this isn't what I meant. Sorry !!!! Cheers Greg
  24. Well done on the kings. Maybe the fish are less picky on baits because the water is murky. That's probably the hook off one of Ceph's rods that went into the drink. Now you got the whole lot back Ceph !!! I'm sure he'll give the hook back, but you might have to fight him for the fish. Cheers Greg
  25. This weekend looks a lot better than the 5 - 6m waves we have had over the past few weeks, but 1.8m to 2.2m won't be that comfortable to fish in if you head outside. The wind is supposed to be between 5 and 12 knots. Who is heading out and where are you going ? Cheers Greg
