  1. viewers of the show "Mythbusters" will recall seeing the goldfish memory myth Busted. They got the goldfish to remember their way through a simple maze for a food reward.
  2. well done! we bask in your awesomeness
  3. thanks dave's. heading out to narra on monday
  4. Hi all, been absent for a while (health issues) but hoping to get out this arvo for a bit. as i'm now land-based, thinking of fishing near the ramp at collaroy, or Narrabeen lake. Anyone know if its worth wetting a line at Collaroy? Thank you!
  5. thanks guys, will see how we go, more just a get-away-for-a-bit than a real fishing trip. and a tip re worms. if you want decent sized ones, go to a good pet shop and see if you can get Superworms from them, they're sold as a live reptile food. cheers
  6. The ramp on the north side of the lake bridge (windang rd) has a good parking area, cleaning tables and toilet facilities (that even play music!). Get there EARLY esp weekends for a parking spot. There is a ramp on the south side next to the breakwall. Parking, no cleaning table but covered bbq close by with a tap. Toilets not so close. This one is more sheltered from southerly breezes, but is a very popular land based spot, so watch for lines and the odd swimmer or two. Once on the lake, a slow drift around the flats between the breakwall and the bridge should see some flatties or whiting, and the odd bream near any weed banks. Further in, try the channel on the other side of the bridge, further up near the islands, or around the corner try the drop-off near the channel marker. HTH (gee I miss my boat!)
  7. cheers truthfully I'd be more worried by a brown snake than anything else.
  8. hi and happy new year to all, we will be going camping for a few days next week and one of the places to be visited is Windermere Dam near Mudgee. Does anyone have any tips re good spots, bait etc. We will be land based. I'd like my Other Half to at least get a decent bite. Have never been able to convince him that Fishing is Fun
  9. we're running Nod (not free does have 1 month free trial) very good, updates at least once a day and will send anything unknown off to be seen to. Also have Threatfire (again, updates at least once a day), and also have a-squared free, which is a root scanner or somesuch. Have been running this setup on four different computers for well over 2 years with no probs.
  10. A big Thank You to those who offered to help me out. Part of what makes the Fishraider community AWESOME. The transport issue has been resolved, and the beastie will be being collected (all going to plan) sometime on Sunday. For the curious, its my Xmas pressie....a Coastal Python. Yes, a snake but only a little one, and all permits acquired, so no Border Security scenarios here. Once again, Thank you! (will post pics when I have them)
  11. hi everyone, I need a big favour, I need someone to collect a package from AAE at Sydney airport and drop it to me at parramatta, as I currently have no car. This could possibly be at short notice, before the 3rd Nov, and the package will contain a live creature. $$ will be offered to the picker - upperer for or whatever. Please PM if you can help thanks!

    Leathery?

I wont eat them cos they are just too ugly.
  13. that's not fair! my brain is 7 years younger than the rest of me! (does that mean I didn't use it for seven years somewhere - high school maybe?)
  14. I forgot about the "Pure Blonde" beer ad - why are the good ads usually beer ads? Thats pretty funny. My family are from rural NSW - I remember an ad with a cockatoo and a cat for an insurance company - can't remember the company - but I used to love that ad. That and the "bugger" ads too.
  15. I really like the VB ""Orchestra" ad, very good. And I did like the "Beaver" ad when it was on, very clever. As a motorcyclist, like the ads for InsureMyRide, with the little animated dude pretending to sip his latte when the voice-over says "scooter-riders" Really hate those AAMI ads too.
  16. I just bought a pair of "Kokoda" PVC chest waders (can't find my other ones!), these are pretty good for $55. Just be aware that you can still get pelican itch when handling wet waders, try to hose them down before handling
  17. Wot I know: starts at the Regatta centre at 6am, goes to 10am. Need to register. Bait only (no SP's, flies or lures). Licence required. Limited bait antd tackle available for purchase at venue. BARBLESS HOOKS ONLY Prizes, and chance to be filmed for Boxte's fishing show. See you there! I'll be the one with a fluro orange cap that says "yamaha Superbikes"
  18. Anyone going to the Australia day fishing contest at Penrith Lakes on Saturday morning? Thinking of going, not sure what I'll be fishing for, though
  19. Well, I'm thinking about riding down for a little fish sat & sun very early. If anyone has a couple of poddie mullets they would like to share, well, I'm sure a beer or two can be arranged. If anyone wants to fish with me, feel free to give me a shout, happy to meet other FR's. especially if they like Kawasaki motorcycles
  20. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but have been there, done that with guppies. You will need another small tank for the offspring alone, or the other adults will eat them all. At least get a separator for the females about to birth, they will have no qualms about snacking on their own babies, and the female will be very tired after, and the other adults (esp males) will hassle her.
  21. I love my Silver motorBike. Not too cryptic

    Snow Trip

Thredbo is very pricey, and only has 1 beginners area. More adult orientated. Smiggins/ Perisher would be my pick, lots of beginner area and AFAIK the "milo" kids are there too. Jindy has some reasonable places to stay, but then you have to drive to the snow (and try to get a parking spot!!) or use the Skitube. Haven't stayed at any of the others, but unless the rules have changed in the last 12 mths, dont bother taking a toboggan to any of the resorts. HTH
  23. I believe the toxin involved has also been found in leatherjacket species in tropical waters, which is why some Oz fishing books say not to eat leatheries caught north of the border. Any truth to this?
