  1. there was a big school of salmon of Maianbar flats thursday morning,I watched them for about 20 mins then the pelicans landed and the school spooked and vanished…
  2. Wow, cracker fish from the Spit mate …well done!
  3. I had convinced a mate to chuck a sickie on Friday and a plan was set but the weather gods had other ideas…sadly we left heavy gear at home and headed up to Audley to launch the yaks.Light spin sticks and hardbodies were the go as my mate was still of the belief that "those lure things don't catch fish",while I was still stuffing around with my yak old mate was already on the water flicking a little rapala floater about and next thing whoops of joy shatter the peaceful setting,he was getting smashed by little choppers and was getting fish cast after cast! so in my now eagerness to join him i jumped in the yak and grabbed the rod ready for a cast as, I was just about to flick when I felt a slightly wet sensation….bugger …forgot the flipping bungs….back to the ute….dry butt ,back in water, tailor buggered of….hmmmm! anyway we had a good slow paddle saw some quality bream at the old fish trap/wall but they were not keen on plastics or lures, across from Grays Point ramp the chopper tailor were back,, good fun on light gear but all undersized and returned.Kept meandering up to Deer Park and around but was breezy as so we headed back.Back into the sheltered shore and scored a nice little pinkie on a Seblie koolie but he was not much longer than the lure.My mate got a nice flatty about 65cm near muddy creek,All in nice 10km round paddle in stunning surrounds with plenty of laughs, Audley is a great spot to launch yaks if your a newbie or want to take the kids /missus, there is also a very nice new jetty/landing that is close to completion, which in time will become a sweet bream haunt. Cheers,Gaz
  4. Yes, yes and yes!, the seal on the drive does make a difference so attach it!,love the turbo fins on each fin there is a brass thread…if you do it up as tight as it goes the fins become very stiff, this will give a bit more top end speed but if makes it noticeably harder to pedal I normally have this set about half way, Ive never had any issues with the Hobie rod holders….there the same as the Scotty ones but with the Scotty acc, you may have more options, Cheers

  6. Port Douglas to Cape Trib…I'll be there in 3 weeks..barra and salmon time!!!!!
  7. The entrance to SW arm eastern side good reef…gars across at Warrumbul side, can launch yak at Warrumbul bit tricky but not to bad , road to Warrumbul up hill from Audley
  8. Some yakkers fit an esky and plumb it through the scuppers, I use a soft PVC tube with rides along side the yak under water, Im not keen on adding much weight to the yak, you can make a home made one with pvc pipe ,cap the ends drill heaps of holes…check one of the yak sites as there are heaps of options, Cheers
  9. thats a horse mate!!! good skills, that would be fun on my yak…. Cheers
  10. 10 min paddle around the Jibbon headland, I have a penn 650/30lb braid with 50lb FC leader and use a stradic 3000 with 12lb for getting live bait, I try not to use my "flash gear" in the yak as I'm always getting wet!! specially under sail, if your new to yakking I don't recommend this spot unless conditions are calm under 1m swell with light breeze i.e.. today is perfect, tide and swell has to be noted as with fishing any bombie, sounder and GPS is pretty handy and a sea anchor is a must (unfortunately my lowrance went for a swim after a spectacular barrel roll when coming ashore and i need to replace it..), GPS lets you watch your drift which can happen fairly quick out there, make sure your yak is suited for offshore too, when the breeze kicks up out there it can get quite hairy!! Cheers
  11. yep…lets not mention the bass boats with their 150hp and sponsor stickers….try being in a kayak…I get buzzed all the time
  12. Yep! gars and liveies would be the goods!, had a mate land a 20kg king of the rocks on a live bonito a few weeks back, I normally try and get bonito or tailor for live bait around the point as getting gars or squid on the yak and getting to the bombie at first light is a bit of a mission… Cheers
  13. Had a lazy arvo pedal/sail out around Jiboon bombie, not much happening no birds ,no baitfish and not even a bonnie or tailor, not much of a breeze either , i even thought of surfing the yak at the bombie! Still a beaut arvo on the water,
  14. Fishermans bay, park at Maianbar carpark walk around the flats to the SW ,nice green hole full of gars…..they also hang about off Bundeena jetty,or the basin over the back of Bonnievale heaps in there, easy walk at low tide Cheers
  15. Conditions look perfect for Wed., heading out from Bundeena mid morn, plan to troll if the breeze lets me, been some good bonito about which I want to live bait for something bigger! Cheers
  16. Yep SW arm and Costens is the spot all we need is the water to clear as it very dirty not surprising with all the rain, i've just stocked up on "metals" and got the maccy reel out!!! so good to have some serious fish so close to home , tight lines! Cheers
