  1. G'day mate, Im a hobie Adventure Isl. owner and a big fan of this craft, I mainly use it just in yak mode and now don't use the drive but paddle instead!!(I find that fishing shallow water the drive is pain in the you know what, and in decent seas Id rather paddle, if im not in sailing mode) the adventure handles the ocean well as well as being a pleasure on the harbour too.... but for the price and now that there is not a dedicated Hobie store in Sydney makes them not the best option...., a good kayaking mate recently purchased the Eco Ambush from one of the "big outdoor" stores and he loves it!!! plus with a sounder and upgraded paddle he got change from $1000.00, which is a quarter of what my AI cost!....have a good look around there are so many options !!!! Cheers
  2. Hi all, good paddle this morning , my mate and I picked up some nice bonito along Jibbon rocks other than that it was fairly quiet ,the start of a southerly changed our plans so we headed in, good start to the day though, Cheers
  3. G'day fellow yakkers , myself and my yakkin mate have been fishing most fri nights around the basin, fisherman's bay and Costens point and although we haven't managed any "trophy" catches have managed a feed most trips with one 40cm whiting at the basin being the standout and we've sighted a few thumpers that made our biggest whiting look like a sprat! anyway were going target the garfish wich are everywhere at night especially at the basin and Fisho's bay and see if we can entice a night time King….anyone have tips on gars as livies? we launch at Maianbar once the sun has gone down!!! if anyone wants to join us feel free!! good looking tides tomorrow night Cheers,Gaz
  4. pike = jew!!!! nice flatty Cheers
  5. Daiwa Wilderness 703LFS 7foot 2-8lb , 3 piece !! comes with great rod tube so getting into thick country to find bass etc is easy ,awesome rods about $250 Cheers
  6. Braid to leader then to trace?....hmmmm don't like the sound of that(unless your'e chasing Marlin and you use a bimni), when I lived in Darwin the rig was braid with double uni to leader with a small bead above the hook this rig was the go to for Barra,Queenfish,Gt,black jews on live bait,,the double uni is important as the doubled leader is less likely to be cut by the braid under load, when lure fishing the same minus the bead always with the Leftys loop, perfect 2 or 3 knots until you can do it with your eyes closed, Cheers
  7. Now I know why i'm not catching from the yak...Uggies!!! lol , might give them a go!,
  8. Hmm I hear you cant pump nippers at Maianbar too but I see people there at every time of day.....the spot I found the big prawns is unacessable by boats and good luck walking there at night...I'll just use the old poddie traps....they were jumping in the kayak so they will end up on a hook but cheers for the heads up Gaz
  9. Hi all , was out chasing whiting on the flats at night and there were prawns everywhere! and some were huge! the whiting were all fat and not fussed on nippers so think its time to fish with live prawns and a bobby cork...anyone caught kings on live prawns? or should I just stir fry the prawns?! Cheers
  10. Mate, get In touch with Stealth Kayaks on their website they have live bait torpedos made from PVC....best money I've spent on my yak!!!!! they are the go!!! bugger paddling around with any more weight than necessary Cheers
  11. Mate....half ya luck!!!!! Id be taking big metal slices (raiders etc) as there will still be big Spanish macs about but if the water is dirty you wont see em, as the build up is just starting the barra will be slowly waking so make sure you have some good gear for live baits, mates off Dundee have been getting into nice cobes and plenty of macs too, I do miss living in Darwin so have a ball!!! also the blue salmon love the Jackal transoms ........ Cheers
  12. Gidday mate, a mate recently purchased a yak from ### around the 900 dollar mark, its a great yak 3.9m wich is good as he is 6ft tall, rudder steering, good mounts , drainage and great on the water and quite easily keeps up with my Hobie adventure, for the price this is an awesome yak wich suits the Harbour or is safe and comfy outside(when the swell is down), Cheers
