  1. Rained off early this morning , so my self and my boss are sitting in the "yard" and a good mate and owner of the the co. we get our materials off says......"WTF are you two @#$%$ doing here? why the %^&* arn't we fishing???!!!... we looked at each other...he's right....lets go....!!!!! so at 10.00am the now crew of 3 picked me up at Bundeena jetty already holding up a nice 85cm Kingy(taken out the front of SW arm channel).......we ran back down the channel and before we passed Bonnivale 3 rods go off with 3 good size tailor , one more upgrade tailor(off the balast heap) about 70 cm (will post pics later when the lads send em) and we keep heading towards SW arm, went up the arm for a bourbon and and a sanga, threw some baits out, but on the slack water we got zilch.Headed back out towards Bundeena as the tide came in, then as the wind eased ,we did a few laps of the Bombie for 4 rats, but along the edge of the white water on Jibbon Point we smashed the Bonito, kept 6 good size, Some good salty water out the fron,t from Maianbar to Jibbon point, so get into it before the seas mellow, Cheers, Gaz
  2. Been good size live bait off Bundeena Jetty, and some good Watsons leaping bonito too, also worth a look and some breadcrumbs is the "rock" on the point around from Gunyah beach in front of the houses , plenty at Jibbon too
  3. Day started well with heaps of live bait at Bundeena, headed out with a spread to the Sydney Fad. nice glassy morning , a few boats at the Fad with a few small Dollies jumping but no takers on the live baits and after 45 mins of bugger all happening we trolled out to the Canyons , pretty decent current running had us at 10.2 knots at one stage , followed current lines , did anything we could but we didn't turn a reel, lots of coral spawn but it thinned out as we headed East, water temp average about 23 but patches out wide up to 26 . Listened to skeds coming in from a Sydney comp, but the only report was a mako, and a few small blacks hooked further North. Sent some live baits in around Jibbon Bombie before we called it a day and couldn't even tempt a King lol , so it was just one of those days....but as always good company and some nice cold bevo's made it a great day regardless, Cheers
  4. Good on you for helping out mate, we cant do much about the twits that get them selves in to trouble out there, last week I was chucking poppers out off the end of the spit at Maianbar and watched this 50 footer with to old blokes at the helm drive inside the channel markers and on to the rapidly emptying flats...... full stink forward /reverse/forward, sand ,weed going everywhere till the muppet dug a trench somehow back into the channel.... the twits are out there in many different shapes, colours etc..... but at the end of the the day its always good to help out and give advice to try... lol, and keep the water safe for us all.
  5. Well done mate, headed out from Seaforth yesterday, out to the Fad,12 mile for nothing, the ocean seemed very devoid of life ,went back inside north head where the sounder lit up with some serious Kings against the cliffs but they didnt want to play. Cheers
  6. Hi all, i fish the flats a lot for whiting on lures and find my best sessions are during the low tide , the Maianbar whiting like to hide in the pools left on low tides, also prefer the afternoon as my shadow is not on the water i'm flicking into, the smaller fish can be very agro with the bigger ones a bit harder to tempt, At the moment Maianbar is getting smashed by a couple of "licensed bait collectors" who had over 3000 nippers last week.....if you want to try and land some elbow slappers head up the Basin on the flats there past the bridge....theres some monster whiting up there but pretty hard to fool reckon a light fly outfit would score some of the big ones! Cheers
  7. Fisherman's bay, Maianbar......swarming with them Kingy biscuts , got these just before last full moon @Gunamatta Bay, and the mako out the back of the bombie ,Hacking fishing well just need to do some K'ms to find em
  8. Another spur of the moment fish today resulted in a double hookup on some nice fat kings out behind the bombie, caught on little surface plugs in a lovely 30 knot sw breeze lol, lost a better one but this one went 79 cm on the lie detector, so much bait the sounder was going nuts. Cheers
  9. Yep, the reports I have heard at the and some of the big frames in the water at Yowie bay ramp have all come from Heatons...indeed....bring on the Marlin and Mahi's, Cheers
  10. Awesome trip mate , stoked to read you got a taste of the nuts fishing that the NT can produce, still reckon those black jew could tow any fish backyards even a doggie!
  11. Hi mate, least you turned a reel......lol, done 4 trips since early June looking for the yft and as we only went when we could not when we wanted we didn't even turn a reel....(bar one stripey and some smelly cuda) which we don't count, we cubed for 3 hours just inside the shelf and even after seeing a crazy amount of birds diving we scored healthy do-nuts, we'd heard they out past Heatons ....but as the reports were hit and miss we didnt want to go that far on a maybe.Anyway the water is starting to warm ,so time to prep all the gear, re tie doubles, sharpen hooks and wash our skirts as one thing we do find is the awesome Mahi mahi! hoping to head out next saturday if Huey is kind and see whats there, after seeing a photo last week of a 1.06m king caught in the Hacking if we dont find any speedsters we'll start to concentrate on the Hoodlums that are around...... Cheers
  12. One of those days today......myself and the boss finished a job earlier than expected and we were both driving through La Parouse looking at how glassy Botany Bay was.....then the phone rings and i don't normally drive and phone, but it was the boss who was now 3 cars ahead ...Ya keen ???? Ohhh yeah was my reply ....30 mins later were on the boat cruising down Yowie Bay, heading out the front and around Jibbon Bombie for a look and to have a quick bottom bash. Water out the front is looking nice ,whales everywhere with a bit of a sloppy swell ,we motored about 200m out and started a nice drift to the south off the water-run, the flatties went nuts we boated about 25 fish in 40 mins keeping a few beauites about the 75cm mark with the rest returned, about 4.50pm massive schools of slimies turned up, if we could have stayed we'd have filled an esky with baits...anyway one of those unplanned great little sessions that just happen bring on the YFT, Cheers

    Salmon

Mate if you have a look at the bargain bins in the tackle shops find the longest clear soft plastics you can, I troll them behind the kayak and the salmon just smash em... Port Hacking the spot mate
  14. Most of the Yellowfin were taken East of Heatons but were pretty sparse only one or two around the Canyons.
  15. Hi all, fished the Port Hacking game comp over the weekend,we were targeting Blues mainly but sadly didn't turn a reel for the two days.We mainly trolled around the Southern Canyons. There were 62 boats and most didn't turn a reel either, but there were a few Yellow fin captured I think the biggest went about 40-50 kg, a couple of good size Makos around 130kg and a Blue was captured yesterday around 130kg , a few smaller striped Marlin tagged. Most of the action was East of Heatons but the better looking water was around the Canyons but sadly there was not much life about at all.Saturday we saw some large pods of False Killer whales which were amazing to cruise along with. Yesterday the water was pretty sloppy with the current running into the wind which made it a bit choppy but mellowed as we headed further East, also heard a Broadbill was taken off Sydney but wasn't a boat in the comp, all in all a great weekend with plenty of yarns, cold beers and wide eyes looking at some stunning boats at the Marina at the end of the day and a very well run event.Ive gone from fishing from a Kayak to a 35ft game boat but think it may be time to get the Yak out and chase some Kings in the Hacking after seeing some pics of a 111cm horse at the club on Saturday night lol. Tight lines all
  16. I always use the uni…. just make sure to double the braid loop or as you have found the braid will cut the mono, Cheers
  17. Gidday mate, the Mrs and I are planning to do the same…..I spent 6 years in Darwin and loved the country and the fishing but we won't return there to live(NT) due to the cost $$$$$$,Id prefer to be closer to Port than Cairns, the fishing in the area is awesome, there is some nice spanish holding reef straight out from Oak beach(just before Port) and the water around the town fishes really well for bara's,jacks ,salmon, grunter, fingermark, queenies etc!! learn ya cast net skills straight away!! as live mullet is the go up there,Ive got mates in Bloomfield and that country is easy to get to and the whole Cape Trib track and its untouched creeks and beaches had me hooked….wait till you see the waters off Bloomfield…Cow bay and the daintree river are just amazing and I know some mad locals that fish on their yaks and clean up….get to know the friendly locals learn to love XXXX and you will have a ball…I did a private trip with a guide and that was the go as the tides there will sort you out quick if your'e not paying attention and like any new spot it pays to listen to the local fisho's, may even see you up there Cheers, Gaz
  18. That's how the ramp is mate.....they won't upgrade for us locals as the do Gooders don't want more traffic......
  19. there were some good schools saturday morn just out from Jibbon headland all seemed in the 6-8m depth range further out into 15m didn't see any,in close i got smashed by a king(the King hit a Killalure 2Deadly) in 6.8m on the sounder…..wont forget my live bait gear next time……..the one slimy i jagged on a lure was easy 30cm……...
  20. lol, yeah I love it there! not as hairy as out the back of Merries Reef though!!, you'll be seeing a few of us out there this summer, actually want to get out wide off Garie when the Dollies are going off………when fully rigged my kayak turns into a tri-maran so I get moving with a nice 12knt breeze ,safety is paramount though and I don't go there unless conditions are sweet, we can certainly get to some good water in the yaks
  21. My mate and I had the kayaks in at Bonnievale at 4.30am and headed towards Jibbon point,of late Ive managed some good size tailor at Costens Point all my fish of late have been trolled up on a Killalure 2 Deadly popper nothing has been grabbing any lures down deeper, just past the moorings at Jibbon picked up a very small and stinky pike which is not welcome on my yak! another 100m further out got a massive slimy easy 30cm but in the wee hours hadn't packed any live bait gear so he goes back too .We had done about 5 laps out around the Bombie and back into Jibbon when we met up this time just inside the bombie for a chat…..my popper was rigged on my lighter gear 12lb with 20lb leader and as we paddled around the north side of the reef WHACK!! yep good King fight the mongrel and in the clear water could see him trying to lie on his side near the bottom …he wouldn't move and my bream rod was not happy i managed to turn him and he comes straight up then heads sharp left at speed and twang!!! there goes the leader!!! bugger!!! stoked to have a great blue with a good fish of the Kayak and will leave the bream gear at home from now lol and definitely won't spool up with Aldi braid …….once the sun got up everything went quiet so we went home very happy , summer is looking awesome for the Hacking and beyond this year, lets hope we can get amongst some good fish. Cheers
  22. I had a ball yesterday morning with the salmon landed 3 lost 3, they were going nuts for the zman grub in pearl light jig head at Cabbage tree point, i paddled over to Merries reef and saw another big school but the dolphins appeared and i left as it felt sharky!!! …..wish they were Kings!,high tide on the flats seems to be the time , Cheers
