  1. thanks mate its auto, albeit with a stall and kit run thru it. back in the day it was vortech blown, was great fun to drive, but these days its just used to get to and from work, with abit of fun on the way.
  2. thanks for all the replies guys, im just starting to get some things together now so the first trip goes off without a hitch hopefully. im curiouse about the straps tho, how tight is too tight, and is running 2 straps such a good idea as 2 would cut down alot of bounce, but as pointed out will also increase the strain on the hull/trailer... cheers, daniel
  3. hi guys, just wondering if anyone tows with low profile tyres, and how much weight does a boat actually put on the car, ie towball weight. reason being, my tow vehicle is a live axle commodore ute, with 19/35/245 tyres. the tyres are not load rated to the vehicle atm, mainly due to there being nothing available in that size that is sticky, but also because in the 6 years ive had it, ive never had more then an esky and some rods in the back, therefore not utilising the "payload" that the upgraded rating (from sedan) is based upon. now that im picking up my boat next week (4.25m bluefin tinny) im wondering which way to go. do i figure that its not going to increase the payload essentially, except at worst 100kg towball weight, and stick with the tyres i run atm, or do i go put on tyres that arnt sticky or live with it. running stockys is an option, but due to the increased rolling diameter of the 19inch rubber, and low diff gears, cruising with stockys meens 3200 rpm at 100kmh. add in that its a 5.0l with abit of work done, it all adds up to fuel economy being beyond a joke... any ideas? cheers, daniel ps, here is a pic
  4. hi guys, will be picking my boat up this week, its a 4.25m flat v tinny with a 25hp tamaha 4 stroke. around 2000 vintage for both. will be on a new dunbier trailer as the trailer its sitting on is pretty far gone. ive been on alot of boats, having had one in the family growing up, and having mates with boats, but never having owned one myself, i need the lowdown on what i should and shouldnt do, things i should always have onboard etc etc safetly gear. im looking at getting 2 manual inflation pfd 1's, mainly because ill wear it more if it isnt bulky. i only intend to get 2, but i only ever intend to have 2 onboard at any time. boat has a marine radio and navman 450 finder, im thinking ill add a portable gps and holder. i will go thru and sort out a specific first aid kit for boat that will mainly consist of burn, cut and abrasion gear, but not excluding the normal first aid gear. flares. what kind of flares should i get, is there any difference, or are they all the same. what should i carry onboard at all times, apart from safety gear. im thinking along the lines of stainless shackles, rags, wd40, shifter, screwdrives, pliers, some wire, 2 torches etc etc what else is usefull? does anyone have a 2000 model yamaha 4 stroke? are there any tips towards cleaning or maintenece, any fuel they dont agree with? what is a good tiedown strap, im intending to get 2 fore and aft, mainly because there is 40kms of 25kmh turns between me and where i want to fish. boat covers, would i be better off getting something made from canvas, or would an off the shelf cover be fine? it needs to be waterproof and able to handle buffeting and wind on trailer. how much would i be looking at for either option before i start looking. (any businesses your happy with in south western sydney feel free to plug) what are good online sites? i know oif bias and whitworths, any others i havnt found? any tricks for trailer/boat washing? my general idea is to hose everything down with freshwater, is that enougth? boat will be kept in a locked garage with my ute, so security isnt an issue. thanks for reading, alot of the questions are simple, i just figure its better to get the right answer first without making the mistake cheers, daniel
  5. hi mik, welcome to site, im daniel from bowral, spend most of my time in the shoalhaven/greenwell pont area. mite see your around...
  6. hi guys, recently slapped down a deposit on a 4.3m bluefin estuary trekker. its around a 2000 model, with a 25hp yamaha 4stroke. full floors with front and rear decks. trailer is a throw away job, but will do for a month or 2 till i figure out what i need for a new one. boat comes with radio and navman finder (either 450 or 4500, cant remember) does anyone have one of these? i need setup ideas. basic plans at this stage are livewell, hatches/storage (atm it has 2 piece floors ie: lift half the floor up for storage) secure battery better, install a battery isolator, complete rewire, add some more lighting (all led, lose the fluro) some more rod holders, bimini/shade of some description, and a new trailer. further down the track i intend to paint it, strengthen the flooring (lose the spring) install a built in fuel tank with gunnel mounted fuel filler and an built in esky. is a long list but im sure you all have a similar one when picking up a new boat. i guess first things first, but what trailer should i be looking at? the trailer its sitting on atm was not the original one, its full of cancer, too long etc etc.im thinking if i can pick something up around the 1000 dollor mark, and then maybe option it up to include powdercoated wheels, spare wheel holder and a walkway, some solid tiedown points. would like sealed led lights as well. im based at bowral, southern highlands but work in moorbank, so anywhere on this side of sydney would be sweet. also, travel covers, ive looked around and seen alot, but not sure which way to go. any help with any questions would be greatly appreciated daniel
  7. hi guys, went out today, had an awesome time despite not getting a feed. went all over greenwall point using bait and plastics and got nothing more then a couple of nice hits while drifting the sand banks. after speaking to a few people got the impression that not many people did have much luck today. after originally checking the bom and thinking we were going to get wet, after about 40 mins out on the water it turned into a pretty awesome day. highlite for the better half was the small pod of "OMG, dolphins!!!" that decided to follow us back in when we went for a looksee at the heads. i think ive almost got that arm twisted round hard enuff that i may be able to pick myself up something very soon ps, i did decide that 5hp of hireboat grunt just aint enuff.
  8. had a nice fellow in a 6 meter or so cuddy cab decide that myself and another boat anchored about 30-35 m apart would make a great slalom at around 50-60kmh today. the worst thing was he was heading dead for me and swerved at last second between us. i was nearly about to throw my gerl overboard i thought that he hadnt actually seen us. the thing that shit me the most was the laugthing i heard when he went past. i hungaround the boat ramp that he had obviously come from for a couple of hours but alas couldnt find him. prolly lucky for the both os us i reckon...
  9. Hi guys, the name is daniel, and i hail from bowral. im praying to the gods for a nice day tomorrow, as i plan to head down to greenwall point, and hiring one of the little tinnys from the park there and heading up the river to chase flattys and bream on plastics. im not really familyer with the river itself, spending more time off the heads in a mates boat, but im really hoping to shine tomorrow..... reason being, is i have an ulterior motive......im taking the minister for war and finance, aka jo. im planning to woo her with an awesome day on the rod, in the hope, that she will release her death grip on our savings for a house, and let me pickup a little tinny for myself. ive done lots of fishing out of my mates boat, which is great, but its not suited to the fishing he likes to do (off shore in a runabout) and its not really my scene. he likes to chase anything off shore, im more interested in esturary and river fishing. as great as he is, i think i really need to give his wife a rest, and procure my own weapon of fishing adiction. as ashamed as i am to admit it, ill be a man and admit i packed shake and bake pancakes for brekky on the side of the river, and salad, yes SALAD!!@#!@#, to go with lunch, all to be cooked on my little suitcase barby. im not sure if i can adjust to this kind of diet, which has been up to this point, a few snags burnt, on a slab of bread, prepared on the lid of the esky, with frequent balancing acts as someone cant wait till the bread is buttered to grab another can of bundy....im even taking plastic plates this time. ive managed to get this far without too much whinging and even without her realising something was up, althougth she did ask about the jig heads and plastics i picked up yesterday. basically, to cut a long story short, i need some inside info, on where to go, and whats about, up the river from greenwall point. even a couple of nice little hideaways to pull up and cook brekky, away from the prying eyes from real men who will obviously realise (and laugth) that im trying to convince the real boss that i need a boat. i intend to use mainly plastics and hardbodys, with the odd bit of frozen bait just for a chuckle. please guys, deep down, i know most (or at least some) of yas will understand my pain, and need for me to make this day count. many thanks in advance... ps, anyone with an older stessl 385+ edgetracker with under 10yo 20ish hp motor that is going cheap, pm me after tomorrow
  10. hi guys, just got back in from a day out on boat, im interested to find bait caught dusky records as my mate pulled a 95cm dusky on 6kg line and number 2 hook using a prawn as bait. will have pics up soon. cheers daniel.
