  1. there is a big parking are and ramp right next to the bridge on the southbound side, plenty of room and good ramp, basically head out into the lake from there, try around the bridge and further in around the rockwall to the north. cheers, dan
  2. we were in a boat. we wernt intending to go prawning, but in reality the was too much traffic on the water and all the fish were being shy, throw in the fact that there was really way too much food in the water and we couldnt get then to take anything with a hook in it. we fished from around 9pm till 5am, and even at 5am when we left there still would have been 50 boats on the water (100's when we kicked off tho), noticed only about 10 or so boats actually fishing, everyone else had lights in the water... if you have never been prawning before, get yourself some good lights and a lot of battery's, bridle the boat sideways and wait for the prawns to come to you. the trick is to let the prawn run into your net, dont go looking for them as they will jump if they think your net is in the water. if land based do the same thing, but definitely wear decent shoes. and watch out for the spiny little fortescue (spelling) as they give a nasty sting if you touch them. Also, there are some tagged breambos released in the lake, with one of them worth $5000, and a couple of flathead, so look for a tag if you hook up to one. i think details of the tagged fish are on the deans bait and tackle website. that said i think they prawns would have stopped running now till late jan, but im not 100% sure. cheers
  3. i was there a week ago, heeps of prawns and crabs, but only managed a few little choppers and no breambos... not sure if they are still running now, go see the guys at deans bait and tackle for better info. regards, dan
  4. all good mate, i got it the first time and im all over it. cheers
  5. Hi guys, Im starting to take more and more mates fishing these days, and im over them bringing their 10yo ***** clearance bin rods and reels that are totally unsuitable for the task at all. Im looking to get say 4 combos all the same, for a mix of fishing styles. That could be off the rocks for drummer, drifting for flattys out of a boat, snapper off shore and small reef bashing, bait fishing for carp, general estuary land based etc etc. I know i wont find a perfect combo to do all the above, but its more about an all rounder and compromise, then outright suitability. Im thinking along the lines of a 7 foot rod, and a qualityish 3500 size reel, and ide like to keep the combo under $100 generally as i wont be using them very often myself, and that they are mainly for friends and family. that said, ide rather put more emphasis on a decent reel, then the rod. my reason behind this is ease of cleaning, and the simple feel that is povided by a better quality reel, whereas on the budget side of things the rod itself is less of a factor. Immediately, i think of something like a penn spinfisher, and say an uglystik rod, for durability sake, but ide like to leave it open for suggestions for u guys that are more in the know. What would you guys look at? web links greatly appreciative, as Ive been looking myself, and ready to grab something in the next week or so. Cheers, Dan
  6. i was having a drink with my mate the other night, and he told me that both his neighbors got broken into the other night, Xmas time is a busy period for the scumbags! I have a 60kg Akita that instills fear in anyone once he howls/screams (seriously its scary) and he sleeps at the front door, and he doesn't make a sound unless something is up. That said, for an quick fix for sliding window security, just get a screw, and screw it thru the window frame, into the window. costs like nothing if u have some screws hanging round. Its unbeatable as well, the window cant move, the obvious being that u need a screwdriver to open the window, But like mentioned earlier, get proper locks for windows u use regularly, and just screw the ones u don't. cheers
  7. hi mate, i recently just redecked my 4.3m brooker saratoga and can give u some tips when it comes to actually doing it, but i would suggest leaving the seat in. have u thought about making the floor actually on top of the seats? im not sure what your use for the boat is, but if it was specifically for lures u wont be needing seats etcetc as u will be standing and casting all the time. would be better as u would be higher and be able to see better into the water and certain types of casting would benefit from the extra height. it doesnt need to be permenent, and u could take out the deck whenever u wanted.
  8. widegap are awesome flatty hooks, nearly always a side of the mouth hookup
  9. ide love to quote chopper reed here, but being a family forum ill give it a miss... as posted, a gas seater of the type you are thinking of is a really bad idea, have a think about getting some thermals and good clothing, you will be amazed at the difference it makes
  10. ive been having alot of luck lately on peeled hawksbury prawns marinated over night in the fridge in ultrabite. was having an ordinary run as such until i started getting bait elsewhere, which also coincided in when i started marinating. went out today with a mate, who mocked my marinated baits, and i outdid him 10:1. he was using the same prawns, just not peeled or marinated. im definetly convinced, considering he was using my rods, all with a running sinker on a mustad big mouth size 1 hook.

    License Types

i have no idea to be honest, but i figure it would be pretty str8 forward, a pwc license allows u to drive a pwc. not a boat.

    Hours Meter

another thing u may need to consider, is that while there is power to that guage, regardless of the motor running or not, the hour will tick over. so if u go and anchor up for 10 hours, but it only took u 10 mins to get there, it will show 10 hours and 10 mins...

    Reel For Sp

all the reels mentioned would do u the job fine, my personal fave would be the symetre. if your buying the ugly stick with the aim for using it mainly for sp, i would look at something else. uglys are top rods, just not suited to sp IMHO. sure, they will work, but there are much better choices out there for the money.
  20. overheat alarm? im guessing thats audible as well as the red light? wasnt in boat at time and couldnt see the red light, but that said i kinda sh|t the gear and switched off when i noticed steam
  21. just flushed my motor in the backyard, all was well, water coming out the tell tale...put it in forward for 30 seconds, then reverse for 30 seconds, then noticed the telltale was spitting out a small but steady stream of steam. tell tale was spitting water for a good 3-4 mins before it threw steam. shut off and restarted twice but still the same thing is this what i think it is? if so, what is a pump for a 2000 yammaha 25hp 4 stroke worth ballpark? can it be done in the shed or does it need to go to a shop? cheers daniel
  22. i may be good for this. if i do a day shift thursday and friday count me in, will just camp at office. thinking i may get a nightshift tho so only have me as a tentative booking.

    Tunes On The Water

i was thinking about something handheld, still may even go that way yet. maybe buy a decent waterproof sterio that can run off 12v maybe? will look into it. ps, i dont want something loud, as kingsrule says, just something to pass the time and for when the mrs is onboard
  24. hi guys, who listens to music when out on the water? im looking to install a marine radio and a am/fm radio with speakers in the next few weeks in my tinny. just wondering whats available and a neat way to mount it. thinking about mounting the speakers into the thwarts but the mounting of the radios has me buggered. cheers
