  1. Have the sienna 1000 model love it great reels for the price. With leaders you've pretty much got the idea, mono or fluorocarbon are the go for visibility and abrasion resistance (braid can fray easily in the rough mouth of say a flatty) for soft plastics you don't use a swivel just tie the leader straight to the main line using a knot like a double uni or albright (have a search around there are many) the swivel will make it look less natural. 6lb braid with 6-12lb leader depending on target will get almost anything done for the bread and butter species, 10lb braid with say 15-20lb leader and you can pretty much boat whatever you like! Drag settings are your friend when using one or two setups for multiple targets! Have fun toying around with setups it's half the game! Cheers Witha Sent from my GT-I9100T using Tapatalk 2
  2. Great mixed bag! Yup love it when one little difference in the water changes a potential doughnut into dinner! Good luck on those hoodlums! Witha
  3. Yup same here. Grabbed a small flatty up north thats about it. Gutters will hopefully form up again soon! Second that; can't just go to the beach without tossing a line in. Maroubra had a bit better structure than others I've seen but blokes I talked to said slow anywhere Sent from my GT-I9100T using Tapatalk 2
  4. What a sunrise! great way to start the day! Good work Witha
  5. Check the thickness of her! Well fed girl! Congrats mate great story and wonderful release. Many more! Witha
  6. Yeah released back to the river, i generally release big bream as they take so long to mature! 25+ yrs i believe for a model that size and above, as much as i love a feed of fresh fish it kills me to think of a taking a fish that took so long to mature! Thanks for the advice! small lifts off the bottom and take the slack, hopping it 50cm or so off the bottom? I shall persist!
  7. Hi Raiders, had the day off and Cooks is my closest spot now figured I would give it a go this afternoon on the runout. Having caught the SP bug from all your lovely reports I intended to concentrate on my technique and see if I could loose the SP virginity (no luck as of yet) Trying to hedge my bets, I set up under the bridge near the breakwall and threw out an old pilly cube leftover from the previous weeks beach session on my 4000 reel, then set to rigging up my little SP rig. After frigging around with that for a while I look over to see my bait rod scream off around the pylons (heart in my mouth as the 10lb braid rasps on the concrete) and managed to wrangle a chunky 37ish bream to shore! (Below) Seems the winter trend of larger fish in fewer numbers is fairly sound. As ive had little success with the SPs was wondering what retrieve style has worked for bream in the past? Had some interest on a nuclear chicken flickbait and tried out some grubz and wrigglers with no success. My typical retrieve is generally more targeted at flatty I believe with the thump thump drop style. Thanks! Witha Also quite a few people about aby raiders visit this arvo? Great catch! Also a fan of the sienna, smooth little reel for the price. Have the 1000 model for my light sp work and no complaints! Cheers Witha Sent from my GT-I9100T using Tapatalk 2
  9. Nice report mate, love sambo's off the beach! What rig were you using? Cheers
  10. Was down there this week as well, you had the right idea!l...I should have skipped the white stuff and had a fish! Great catch mate
  11. Yeah we gave that a go and got fed up, moved over to the sailing club for a bit of shelter but nothing moving even in the mangroves. Hopefully picks up soon!
  12. Nice one mate, had a flick down near Kissing Point park the other day, gorgeous conditions but not a single touch! Glad to see someone is having luck hooking something other than rubbish in the area, Cheers Witha
  13. Sounds like the go to me! Better get some sleep looks like i'll give it a go in the mornin! Report to follow, Cheers Witha
  14. Great info thanks mate, yeah I am still juggling rods and reels as to my setup for each target area, from what i'm hearing I will be using my Shimano 2500 for my lighter whiting and bream work beach based and put those extra few dollars away for a stradic to go rock hopping with 15-20lb braid for the heavier pelagics (i'm with you have used one before and it was a silky smooth piece of gear). Have my 9ft old glass at the moment and definitely feel the need for a 10-12, eyeing off a 12 at the moment to get over the top. As usual great wealth of knowledge. Cheers Witha
  15. Hi Raiders, Recently moved down to Enmore area in sydney, and as such all my fishing spots are much farther north! Any general areas/spots from the bridge south (harbour/beach/estuary, anything really!)? Keen to get in and try a new area! Cheers, Witha
  16. Hi Raiders, My annual ritual when winter comes around and keeps me off the water more often is to obsess over new tackle and toys. I'm a young fella and have only had the opportunity to invest in decent gear for a few seasons now, and it's time to retire my old kit and put a bit more investment into a new setup. I'm pretty happy with my ultralight soft plastics setup, but i'm looking for a new ~4000 size reel to double as a light beacher/rock setup and a heavier estuary. I've always used spin in the past, but have been toying with the idea of a baitcaster as well, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated, your a wealth of knowledge! Thanks! Witha P.s. also line and leader weight for rock/beach to match? So many questions!
  17. FIshed these areas for a few years now, only recently moved further south; Meadownbank near the bridge can go well for bream and a few flathead, lane cove has been productive in the past and have had some success, Roseville I personally have not had too much luck with, especially if land based. More of the better spots can be found walking the bush tracks rather than the popular picnic areas. If you've got a bit more time try heading up to Berowra; flicking for bream around the boats on the Galstone side or some fresh bait in the deeper channels normally rewards. Some decent salmon to be had, and a few reports of Jew if you have the time to invest in the elusive Mulloway. Hard as a land based in these areas at times as it is obviously limiting! Hope you have some luck mate. Cheers, Witha
  18. Great haul there! Enjoy the feed!
  19. Always good to land a big lizard! Well done!
  20. Great catch, glad to see they're still hopping on!
  21. Great report as usual, good to see the winter bream are going strong! Witha
