  1. I had a similar problem and all I ended up having to do was stick some wire into the water outlet and it cleaned out the sand and crap that was in it from a recent trip to a shallow lake, might be worth a go before paying for a new impeller.

    Fish Id(Tailor)

Eaten fresh and bled properly they are OK, or good smoked. Don't leave them in the fridge for more than a day though and don't think about freezing them - too oily and strong tasting for that
  3. Handy time for a PB, I never get close to any PBs during comps!
  4. Love the colours you've captured in those dollie pics, nice report too. thanks for sharing
  5. Yeah sorry reef pick was what i meant, it drags along the sand and kicks up some food to get the flatties going
  6. You decided to do some turbo drifting over botany Ed? Remember the drift anchor, it can even increase hit rates as it stirs up the sand while dragging along the bottom
  7. pity about the conditions for tomorrow's comp! Good luck to all the raiders entered. It is a fantastic cause, having a father survive prostate cancer who also loves fishing, I'll never miss one of these rain, hail or shine.
  8. In SA the pros use carp as cray bait in their pots. They say it is fantastic
  9. A lot of it has to do with the fish species you're targeting as well as the length of the plastic. ie. if you're chasing flatties I'd go for 1/0 or bigger, for bream I like a size 2...
  10. Yeah nice catch but it does sound more like a fishing brag than a fishing report...

    Maxima vs aurion?

Thanks again for the replies guys. We ended up with a 2013 Aurion with low kms. Handled very nicely in the test drive, seems like a nice car and plenty of go in it. Pickup Saturday after fitting the tow bar just in time for a Sunday fish
  12. Cute little guy, my son now wants one!
  13. theres trawlers in the parra? I knew there was a good reason I don't buy fish

    Good squid

I'm sure that red dot was a bit more south than that.. right day go ☺

    Good squid

Dpi says you can only take fin fish from the north harbour aquatic reserve. Does that mean squid are actually protected there?

    Good squid

Some nice green eyes there. Do you use the S factor on your squid jigs or was that just there to show size? I use it on pretty much any lure for fish or squid, it definitely increases strike rates for me.
  17. As for when to lock the drag and pull as hard as possible vs when to loosen it off and play the fish really depends on the fish at the time and it takes some experience to know when to apply each method - basically if the fish goes for structure you want to try to guide it out and not give too much line but if its in the open let it run till it tires
  18. yeah your rig sounds fine, anything over 50lb leader and you scare off 90% of the fish that otherwise might have had a go. unfortunate you missed the first fish that attached your yakka as from the pic it looks like he had 2 goes at it. Were the diamond fish Pomfret or sweep (or is there another species actually called diamondfish that I don't know about? if they were sweep the larger ones are quite good eating, and both can be used as livies when very desperate

    Maxima vs aurion?

Thanks Tastee. Just had the loan approved and have our eyes on a 2013 aurion. Appreciate your feedback
  20. Great report Mate. I have 2 things for you: 1. Get yourself some travacalm (the blue original pack) and take one before you head out if you're expecting any chop, it's miracle stuff for me 2. I need your wife to rub some of her love of fishing onto mine! You're a lucky man to have the wife hound you to fish!!!

    Maxima vs aurion?

Problem (apart from the wife not wanting an suv) is we'd be looking at 3-5 years older and an extra 50000 clicks for the same price

    Maxima vs aurion?

Thanks reese. Sounds like the same model we are looking at. Good to know it handles your boat no worries

    Maxima vs aurion?

Hi Raiders. The Mrs wants a new car. Must be a sedan and must be suitable to tow my quintrex 430 (max 500kg when loaded) since i drive a mazda 3 which would barely pull it out of the driveway. I told her she can have the mazda and I'll get a 4x4 but she wants a v6 sedan... no use arguing. Anyway for our price bracket in front wheel drive sedans (for slippery ramps) it comes down to 2012/13 toyota aurion or nissan maxima. Has anybody owned either of there and better still towed with one? Would love some thoughts or feedback She currently drives a Mitsubishi magna which tows the boat fine but its getting old. Cheers Linc
