  1. Should have sued to makers for the pain you suffered as a result of the hunger on that trip
  2. I'd be willing to pay more for one if i had to, for me it is the convenience more than the price. What else will i use to bbq snags on the deck of my 4.3m runabout? ☺
  3. This is horrible news, I just sold my portable gas bbq and gas bottle at a garage sale coz I love my 'lunchbox cooker' so much!
  4. Do rods also fall within the 700 budget? I love my gomoku rod if you don't mind shorter rods (i find the 6 feet perfect for the boat) they are made for micro jigging but i use them for bait and plastics. I have the lightest one with a stradic 2500 and love the combo. I think rods come down to personal preference though
  5. Hi Mate, my thoughts are that 6000-8000 would be a bit of overkill for setup 2. Do you plan to fish plastics/lures at all or are you 100% bait? a 4000 loaded with 15-20lb braid is heaps for pretty much anything inshore if you've got a bigger setup on hand if the bigger kinds show up. I love the shimano stradics for the smaller reels, Checkout the Fleuger Salt range for the bigger models, they do a good quality reel for a good price which will let you spend more on the smaller reel
  6. For the charger bit don't bother wiring anything up. Get yourself a power pack. You can get small ones that will charge any phone fully for $30. Great for travel too. And you wouldn't have the phone open the whole time anyway. Only while going from a to b
  7. Nice little Samson there mate, they do put on a great fight don't they.
  8. Thanks again Guys, I ended up going with the Daiwa Gen Black Wild Weasel and a sustain 2500, he sometimes fishes fairly deep water and I know likes to have a bit of extra line on his spool, also liked the look of the sustain to match back with the wild weasel. Looking forward to his next trip to Sydney so we can finally agree that it's not the gear that sees me outfishing him on plastics he always does me on bait, but I put that down to the extra 30 years experience he has on me
  9. Fantastic effort, flatties are my favourite fish to target on lure (probably coz I have a lot more luck on them than anything else) But I love the anticipation of when you tighten the line and you feel that weight and inevitable headshake or two when you hook into a 50+ model
  10. Thanks for the tips. Will look into both options
  11. Hi Raiders, My Sister and I are putting in $200 each to buy the old man a nice plastics combo for his 60th since he complains the reason I always outfish him on plastics is because he doesn't have the ideal rod for it Main target will be flatties from the boat on the drift so max jig head would be around 1/2 oz on those windy days. I'm thinking of a shimano Stradic 2500 CI4 for the reel as I have one and love it, but can't decide on the rod wtih the $150 or so I'll have left, unless anyone has a better reel in mind? Thanks Linc
  12. Having the Tawnee Frogmouth sitting there would have been a bit of a thrill, not something that happens every trip on the harbour!
  13. How big is your boat? I draw the line at about 15 knots for botany in my 4.3M runabout, beyond that it would still be fishable but choppy and uncomfortable and not many places to hide, like Tef1on said, the hacking, or even the harbour has plenty of hiding spots from a Noreaster.
  14. Sounds like something worth investigating thanks Marky
  15. 30hp Suzuki 2stroke. Tank is only 25L. It might not take half but would use a bit. I usually go through half a tank launching at Roseville, heading into the harbour and outside the heads then back to roseville so half a tank from meadowbank to harbour could be an exaggeration- must try it one day and find out... With a spare tank on board
  16. Thanks for the insight fellas. Might give it a shot and see whether the extra boating outweighs the shorter drive. Google says 15 mins from home. Tunks is free but so small. If u get there after sunrise you are parking on the curb 1km up the road. Also a lot of novices there too
  17. Hi All, Living in West Ryde, I normally tow the boat to roseville to launch when fishing the harbour as it's a great ramp, never too busy and a beautiful peaceful cruise out into the harbour, but it can be up to 45 mins drive. Since it'd take half a tank of fuel to boat from wharf rd to the harbour I have counted that one out but thinking of trying drummoyne ramp. Is this any good? Anything to look out for? eg 4x4 only? I've only got a 4.3M runabout so I don't need anything too deep.
  18. Yeah all around kurnel both east and west of the wharf
  19. Plenty of squid around kurnel yesterday, these were mostly caught on a 3.0 white yamashita, even got one of the flatties on it foul hooked!
  20. That's why I do all of that stuff the night before heading out for a morning fish, can't waste precious fishing time at the servo! And your size 12 hooks shouldn't be too big for yakkas, what bait are you using? I've found when they are hard to hook mince beef can work wonders, but lately haven't had much trouble catching them on prawn or pillie, as long as they are tiny pieces.
  21. Very nice effort there mate. I think I have the same landing net from my kayak days and find it difficult as it won't move thru the water at all
  22. Haha that is seriously a face only his mother could love. Definitely not something that would get anywhere near my filleting table. And well done on the pb
  23. All the info you could ever need on beach worming can be found here http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=53112
  24. Yeah i 2nd the idea of using j hooks. I like the mustad big red hooks. Usually 5/0 does the trick or 4/0 for smaller yakkas. Unless ur using huge yakkas i think 8/0 is overkill. Others may disagree?
