  1. This is a good tip mate, I concur, unless you see all the boats around the bustup actually hooking nice fish, 7 or 8 boats and I wasted a good 30-40 mins chasing a bustup around the harbour yesterday, turned out they were just small tailor, I only saw 3 caught, one was mine and it was only around 25cm...
  2. Haha nah I'm an ex Victorian actually, must be a North/South thing, we (sars drinkers) are few and far between, my old man passed down the taste to me and now my son loves it too, everyone else I know says it tastes like medicine.
  3. The one and only time I've had my catch inspected in Sydney was by water police in botany bay, they asked me to hold up my catches from the esky, then one leaned over and had a peak in to see if I wasn't forgetting to hold up any and they moved on after a quick license check (boat and fishing). They also asked me if the sarsaparilla in my drink holder was a beer but were happy not to pull out the breatho when I showed them the label
  4. You must have looked pretty suss mate, maybe it was the lack of fish in the esky when you look like such a keen fisho, surely you couldn't have come home empty handed? I've definitely never had such a thorough check. I agree it sounds like a complete waste of time when they could have been in more productive spots no doubt finding countless undersize catches. I also agree on the idea of limits on rigged rods on board, as long as you're not fishing more than 4, what does it really matter? When you're fishing alone you don't have time to be rigging up a bait rod, then pulling the hooks off and setting up another rod for another purpose, I guess the key is to have things rigged up but leave the hooks off?
  5. Many people would have had a whinge about the mess and stepped over it, well done for cleaning it up mate, we need more people like you around our fishing spots, sorry you weren't rewarded with a nice catch for your efforts though.

    Simrad combo

I haven't compared the evo and the sports but I have an nss7 sports and love it! It's just so easy to use
  7. maybe 25 or 26cm Mate, real monsters hah
  8. Thanks for the quick replies guys, we were getting double headers of these for ages, they were just under the surface in the burley trail. kept 2 of the biggest ones just to try, tasted just as good as the flatties and snapper we had in beer batter
  9. couldn't agree more with the reviews, it is fantastic. (A must on charters too if you wanna grab some good spots )
  10. ohh you meant that kind of over the side. sorry I thought you meant one that spills the overflow over the side
  11. hey Mate, we had a great discussion on this with live updates as a couple of us built one back in April, check out this post - it's a longy but you'll get some great info. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=72736&hl=
  12. It sure doesn't mate. Nice report and well done
  13. I'm right handed and was taught to wind with my left, hold rod with the right, it does make sense the fight the fish with your stronger hand and also remove the need to switch hands, And like a lot of you I have this argument everytime, especially if someone borrows a rod from me or needs to pull one of my rods in.

    FLATHEAD SPOT

You decided to "give in" LOL I wish I had to 'give in' to being nagged to go fishing every week Definitely dangle some plastics over the side, even if the kids don't work them, just dragging them on the drift will produce flatties (assuming you're in a boat?)
  15. bit of a long story. main motivation for upgrading was my son getting old enough to get out on the water with me and I wanted to get him into fishing so it gave me more time with him a d more time to fish
  16. Definitely get yourself a yak mate. you'll catch so much more and have all the space you need. the 2nd best thing I ever did to enhance my fishing was to buy a hobie pro angler in 2010. the best thing I did was later buy a boat
  17. That is a stonker silver Trevally, I've only seen golden and GT's that big
  18. Good to know there are a few yakkas around, they went a bit off for a while in my regular spots in the harbour through the winter. Anyone else out in the harbour tomorrow? I'll be launching in middle harbour and working my way out, might have a drift over colours reef and see if anything is hanging out there too since it'll be nice and flat.
  19. Sounds like a nice day out, I'm yet to stumble across a school of surface salmon in the harbour so I'm hoping they're still around tomorrow when I head out
  20. What a beautiful day... to be stuck in the office

  21. I had a 2010 Hobie Pro Angler for 18 months or so and loved it for it's stability and comfort, I could sit in it for hours and not have an issue, plus they are so stable you can stand up even with a little swell so you can stretch your back. the issue with pro anglers is the weight, I wouldn't buy another unless they've greatly reduced the weight as they become difficult to lug around at 40+kg without being loaded with gear. having said that, I'd look into the rest of the hobie range, using the mirage glide (foot pedals) also helps to stretch your legs, as well as exercise them at the same time and the seats are top notch.
  22. There's fish around, including all the species you listed that you used to catch, they're just a bit hit and miss with the cold weather. I've managed to bring home a feed each outing though and the harbour has been my go-to place to at least catch a feed consistently. I can't speak for any of your spots West of the bridge as I don't venture that far up though.
  23. Amazing fish mate, very well done, you won't forget that one anytime soon.
  24. You've got me interested, where do we find that?
