  1. Im full of questions today, what do people do with there cuttlefish. Do you cook the ugly little buggers, or just bait (im assuming bait). If so how and for what, do they freeze, preferred size etc. Cheers guys
  2. Put them back, itll make a great fishery, even if the bream have the eyes i guess they had to draw a line somewhere
  3. Better off without cleats at snapper point. It's all conglomerate rock, above the high tide line, and grippy. You're likely to snap an ankle in cleats there. Good shoes are a must though. Assume wybung is the same but never visited But dido the above, stay safe
  4. It is a curse, i can relate, and im sure many others can as well. Slide baiting would be worth a shot assuming you can get the line clear over the kelp. Other than that there's not much you can do. Keep recasting or turn to lures instead of livies
  5. Ok 6th is canned, 13th is all systems go for you lucky people and me and henry are headed south on friday for kings and squid. Hit me up a pm if you want to join fridays expedition. I expect big reports from the 13th
  6. Hi all, Looking for help with Long Reef. Me and a few other yak members wondering long and hard about it as a viable destination. But first lots of learning to do to make it successful, and more importantly safe. Looking for people that know the area to shoot me a pm. Im looking for tips and techniques, recent success and reliability, and gps marks that bound the reef (not secret honey holes) so that we can identify it. Not so easy to cruise around and find in a yak, easier to have a map. Try and keep it too pm's for the sake of all, and i acknowledge ive done no research as of yet.... Thanks guys
  7. If the 13th is the go, then go for it. Ill see what magic i can work to make it. Though if you've got numbers you'd be best off hitting unfamiliar water, no? Everyone wants to do longreef, manly, bass point etc, but won't do it on there own. This is the point of these meets, this is your time to explore. If me and Michael are fishing alone we'll do it mid week, no boats more fish. The weekend offer is for the greater community
  8. Hey its no secret spot, not this one anyway. Interesting views, it really does seem like it's a bit of a hit and miss science. It was a real tease on the day because you knew something was down there but they weren't interested. When at the side of the cone, aren't they slanted? Hence the arch is formed as it moves through the cone?
  9. Hi all, Always looking to learn when it comes to reading my sounder, so anyone who wants to give me a tutorial, feel free. I was it the other day chasing kings, and we found a few. I know that nice strong arches (red/yellow centres) are fish, but i also kept reading weaker arches (blue/incomplete) that at times became lines. They changed depth, appeared and disappeared, and i have no idea what they were. We did get kings amongst the readings, so my question is are they fish? Or something else? See attatched (Note, the inadvertently attatched shows 'weak arches' but these at times just extended out into strata/lines) Cheers
  10. Hi all, This time no backsies, lets get some numbers. Saturday May 6th, location to a vote, but to keep the veterans happy lets try and get to a location with some variety/interest, but something sensible for newcomers. If your interested, say so and contribute, dont lurk and wait for others. Suggest a location with your EOI! Don't leave me and Henry alone again!!!! nothing aginst HenryR, just that a group meet aint a group meet with only 2 attendees..... Cheers
  11. Bahahahaha... Ive just been catching up, this made my day
  12. Port Kembla, though a trek, may be a good option for you. 1km of paddling to protected and productive pelagic grounds.
  13. Im glad to hear FR will carry on. As has been stated above, the amount of money we go through on fishing gear im sure we can find the coin to support the site! I know it's not for everyone, but it is sad think we will loose notable and long term members. I know there's alternatives, but before departing due to a fee, consider how bummed we were when we heard it was closing down. Clearly even we know the alternatives arent on par! Goodluck FR and the swordies!
  14. F#@% yes, what a day. This report does it justice
  15. Im with rick, is there no way to keep it going?
  16. Sounds sweet, keep me posted
  17. Sun up, me and Henry are normally out on or before first light. Happy to meet people out there though
  18. Hi all, yak sesh out of little manly aiming for north head. All welcome. Targeting kings and pelagics. Let me know
  19. Hey mate, im no expert in pittwater, tbh it confuses the hell out of me. In the few trips me and some of the kayakers have done in pittwater, ive found a few yakka around the wharfs we launched from at first light. Other than that i got no idea, other than grab a sounder and follow the locals. Hit up the kayak crew thread here on fr for yak tips, or even to find a pittwater local yak fisherman. I know there are a few on here and most are friendly Cheers
  20. It's a bit of wffort compared to pillies, but theyll work just fine
