If I were you Yowie, in my household I’d be told that I’m doing perfectly well with hand lines so why would I need any rods? :D

Actually I am being asked similar question - why do I need so many lures if I bring home fish usually caught on bait (at night). So, I answer - lures are for hobby, bait is for bringing food to the table - totally 2 different activities 😃

  2. How many is enough? - What I have at the moment plus at least another one.

How many do I have? -  I always answer this regular question honestly  ''I do not know how many I have - as I do not count them''.

Why so many? - Some are backup, purchased at clearance prices. It's true.

Treat rods(well, and other tackle) like hooks - it is important to know what you have, not how many of them you have, and keep them at home away from others hands and eyes 😃.

    Congratulations, shroom!

Can anyone tell me how to search for shroom or Scratchie or Dirvin? I can’t find that option in Deckee on my phone at all! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just enter their names in  'where to' field on the top of app, and the app will give you their recorded location.

We need more diplomatic staff in Sydney,  so they can share their favourite fishing spots with us 😃.

  4. Tapatalk is still in App stores at least for Android but the supported forum list is smaller and smaller each year.

It was convenient tool to search and save forums by interest and then enjoy them in easy readable format on smaller phones and minimum mobile data use.

There were several apps like it but Tapatalk was the best.

i do happen to know that there has been a certain desirable yellow and green pelagic fish active in the river recently...

     looking forward to your report

My first thought was about estuary catfish, but it does not fit 100% of the provided description. Is it mahi mahi??? 🤔😄.

    Also interested in the report.

Looks like it beats the existing FR record by 10cm posted 16 years ago.

I did a bit of googling yesterday to try and see what the Aus record for them were but couldn't find anything, only the ANSA record of 1.7kg. By all means feel free to point me in the right direction, very eager to find out how far off mine was.

DPI lists them growing to 75cm/8kg+ but they also say flathead are still found up to 1.5mtr so maybe take that with a pinch of salt.

Talking about ANSA records and salt.  Not a photoshop -  I did the screenshot of ANSA website myself.

Hey slothparade, just looking around the Narrabeen lagoon area and looks very fishy! I've read that flathead, bream, tailor and all the other bread and butter species are there. I'm guessing flicking some 3 inch berkley plastics will work fine for most of these species. Thanks ( just read also that NO fish are allowed to be taken from Narrabeen Lagoon area? Can someone please confirm?)

Yep, nothing to be taken - NSW DPI released the statement today 1/4/2021. It has something to do with preserving mud marlin population in the lagoon.

For other times then Winter I just use cheap pants and jacket, have a jacket that folds up within itself to about 4 inches round and I keep it in the glove box of the boat and one in the glove box of the car, not warm but keeps you dry in mild rain. Katmandu have some good stuff but pretty pricy.

Frank, if you like Kathmandu - try their Birkenhead Point Outlet,  prices are reasonable however choice is usually limited. Best time to come when their shops get new stock for the new season,  so old  stock goes to outlet. If you are ever back to UK  again - their Kathmandu (despite Kathmandu being NZ/AU company) in their Westfield has lower regular prices than our local one on sale.

I have  couple of relatively cheap '4" rain jackets' - I found  that they are not much breathable,  leak the water in above mild rain at seams,  thin/cold. I use it only as a emergency protection from mild rain/splashes and cold wind (obviously with a layer under it).

I remember my first waterproof pants- they were made out of industrial plastic bags and didn't breath at all , but they sure served their purpose of keeping me dry, while in a hire boat- freezing Hairtailing in Coal and Candle Creek.

Waza, I suspect that style would be perfect match to my first / green Bunnings rain poncho 😃. All was ok in light summer rain until wind catched up, and during my lure fishing session I had more ponchos catches than casts.

  9. I used waterproof Goretex hat, Goretex jacket, Goretex pants, Goretex shoes - not everything at the same time.

Decent breathability is more important than 100% waterproofness - particularly for our warm climate zone.

This seems very complex for the average fisho really. Might be good for a budding meteorologist 🤔 I have not heard of this app.

Most people that I know on the forum are better than average fishos 😉 . But I do agree with you that those articles are not for everyone.

The Fish Ranger is Aussie / VIC startup/project that has been active since 2016, and once they survived only due to fishos donations. The founder has been active on other Aussie fishing forums explaining the differences between weather apps / forecasting models. I am not promoting them, and not affiliated with them (and sometimes was giving them quite critical reviews on this forum), however they do have passion for both weather forecasting and fishing - which is rare.
