Organic frozen potato chips + organic (sunflower) oil in a deeper frying pan worked many times for me. Simple, quick and taste great. Still cheaper than most fast food rubbish. The only challenge is to find those chips in stock.

You are a brave man than me @savit😅
While I say I will try anything if I am pucking before the thing reaches my mouch then Im out 🤣
Its like that Kiviak, even Andrew Zimmern would baulk at that one?
Give me a thinly sliced bit of raw puffer fish that could kill me in 10 minutes any day over the smell of that shite 🤣
No, I am definitely not trying Kiviak 😝, but I will do exception for smoked Puffin 😁.
I used to buy various sashimi plates at Tokyo fishing market. LOL never knew what it was (just hoped the fish was really fresh) - as their English was as good as my Japanese. Was struggling only with one fish.
However with all that "brave" stuff, there are some common foods I can not smell, let alone eat, so no chef career for me

Haha, maybe a bit of Fugu is what you crave 😝
Yakka's well I haven't cooked them but think about this savit, so many people buy pilchards for bait at whatever price then possibly the same people or the buyer of the house will buy tinned sardines for their toast, same thing!.
Lots of similar instances out there really.
After Hákarl I think I am ready for Fugu, just need another full bottle of Coke "acid"
Yakkas, carp, tilapia, possibly other local "pests" and baitfish actually play quite noticeable role in commercial fishing overseas. My favourite is deep fried Redfin.
My brother in law used to buy truck of frozen raw mackerel in Poland and then put them into barrels with marinade. 1000km and 2 customs with long truck queues later - they were ready for consumption.

Thanks. Any good recipes for yakkas and pufferfish?

Looks like we need those long badges with car model, engine size, cylinders, injection, transmission, fuel type, aircon info etc etc etc from 80th back - would save over $400 in annual fees on custom plates to some people.

Hi MD,
Matching the hatch.... but is it fly fishing???
Went fly fishing with a mate on Glenbawn dam for bass years ago and he hooked up on a nice bass then admitted he'd "matched the hatch" by getting one of the live grasshoppers we had swarming at that time of year and putting it on the end of his fly line instead of an artificial. It still makes me laugh.
It is similar to squeezing and rubbing the insects into artificial fly, just the next level - full worm/grasshoper replacement .

Buying lures is the easy part, it learning how to fish with them that is the harder part!
The hardest thing is parting with them.

Awesome catch from a kayak, and a free ride on top of that! What was the gear that landed the fish?

Don't forget that is a gay/ nude beach nearby.
Cheers.
Forget about nudes on the beach. Remember about perverts in the bushes around the beach. They are usually harmless, however my partner was not much happy.
Back to the topic. From memory - there are a few small parkings in the area, some of them have short easy tracks that lead straight to ledges. No climbing skills were required.

I just use the cheapest awl from Bunnings. Fish never complained.

Yes I completely agree. I should have mentioned that It’s dry aging in the fridge, as per Josh Nilands method. Its not air drying and hanging in the open air like you’d hang biltong (which I love!).
Usually I just knock the fillets off, prep everything and then wrap it tightly in paper towels and then plastic on top of the paper towels until it firms up a little bit so that we can eat it as sashimi.
This time I’ve left the fish whole and lightly covered, sitting on top of a drip tray so that they firm up but don’t get mushy in their own juices but also don’t dehydrate.
Should achieve a better result.
I air-dry (open air) salted fish sometimes . Best results with estuary fish like bream and flatties. Oily fish like trevally etc is not so good as too strong taste of oil left in the flesh after drying.
There are plenty of Australian Salmon recipes in internet - just google Kahawai recipes instead . Same fish - different/NZ name.

Is dry storage an option for you guys somewhere around Sydney? For smaller boats possibly even a storage king shed or similar
I've seen boats stored on the premises of KSS with easy car access - under the sky/not in the shed. Prices away from Sydney centre are lower.

Morning fog from a kayak - it is effing beautiful and effing cold. Sunrays reflections through the fog , refreshing wake coming from nowhere. And idiots, idiots, idiots on the boats. Fishing is possible though usually not fully relaxing: I try to find some cul de sac until visibility improves, as there are some boats trolling shallows.

No worries Donna. Yes, the whole publication is for Sydney Harbour only at the moment, however they already added general fishing spots/zones maps PDFs for the rest of listed areas.

Web link for those who want to save couple of trees i.e downloadable PDF versions. (They are in the separate section 'Go Fishing Guides ' .'Local Fishing Guides' on the top - are different publications though also useful)

Its a real fish. I photoshopped it to make it look like a sketch.
No doubts about that.

The fish looks so realistic 😃

Can probably arrange something. Was going to collect some cabbage weed on Thursday afternoon for fishing this weekend but weather forecast is not good for the weekend. Will have to see if the Bureau Of Misinformation (a term a friend of mine uses) is true to form.
They use weather prediction model developed for Europe - thats why results are upside down.

Pricing was initially up to $200 - but could probably convince myself to spend an extra $100. May just wait until an 8000 Saragosa comes up for sale. I've seen them go for sub $250 before.
You can get Saragosa 8000 anytime for $251 - just get ana conda price beat (10%) any shop that still sell them for $279.
Alan Hawk's reel list updates are always interesting. Best budget freshwater reels Stradic FL or Tatula LT cost twice as much as best budget offshore reels - those trouts must be pulling really hard - accross the pond.

Might be worth asking also on a local/QLD forum.

Sorry, I dont get why you would have an 8 or 10pc rod when you can just get a decent telescopic??
Way less hassle imo & you cant lose 1 of 8 or 10 pieces 😉 🤐
Most of 8 and 10 piece fly rods are vintage from pre-tele era i.e no particular choice dilemma. Tele rod action and rod rating aside, the only environment I would avoid for tele rods - is probably beaches due to sand regularly getting stuck inside.
Personally, in this case, considering that Paddy93 already using/carrying a hunting setup, I would just measure it and go from its dimensions rather than chasing something superportable with questionable quality. Assuming it is a hunting rifle - over 3 feet - then even 3 piece fly rod should suffice without sticking out.

I think you win @savit....
I looked for a 9 and 10 piece to top you but I think the only way of achieving that is to snap a few of the pieces...
😄
Looks like 10 piece rods actually exist. 1st one is still for sale.

May be call the local tackle stores (I remember at least 2 in the area), they should know for sure.
