I can legally tow one engine as my Kia has a tow capacity of 600kg unbraked.Might have to ask fellow raiders to bring the rest of the engines down to the ramp and the boat too if they don't mind.

Just looking through the loose change in the car to purchase that rig now.

Actually no need to ask - if your Kia can handle so much loose change (just 1motor/$100k ~ 1 tonne of coins ) then just strap the rest of the rig to the car roof 🤣

Quite a few fishos read these reports, for their own advantage, but will not join the forum and provide info to others.

There is no lack of latest  fishing reports (with photos, even sometimes current biting area) on current social media.  I have seen even Fishraiders reports posted faster on FB than on a forum.  What those short reports  are missing is a good report story and regularly quality of comments.

    Hey Gordo,

    Thanks for your feedback.

The app is is there for boating and safety information as well as some of the features I outlined above.
It is not navionics. But it is constantly developing all the time.
Once you have the app, you are able to place your own fishing spots and share with other users if you wish.
I would like all fishraiders to get on board early and show their support as Deckee is also the owner of this site.
Any suggestions are welcome and will be forwarded to the development team.

    cheers scratchie!!!

I dont see any problem at all if fishing spots are not added for public, probably the opposite LOL. There are plenty GPS marks around - just do a bit of homework.

What I would appreciate is App ability to add(manually or upload file) own GPS marks in several formats - rather than currently dropping a pin. Also , a basic depth and/or some bottom structure map would be a nice feature.

  4. Unlike cars - the  boat  motor technology has stuck in the past with poor efficiency due to lack of real competition on the market for decades and targeting mostly high income customer segment.

I hope the electric battery technology gets soon to the price, weight, efficiency level enough so electric motors can be used widely in recreational fishing boats -  no more noise, no smell, easier service, and free or cheap charge at home i.e. more fishing.

  5. Good suggestions!  LOL I am struggling to do anything with with cling wrap - so I  just use sealable glass containers for fish and meats storage - they are cheap as chips and decent quality now at Kmart.

  6. My whole childhood was chasing freshwater european fish in lakes and rivers with fishing poles - made out of fresh cut wood  sticks or dry bamboo. The problem was when you hook something heavier - you cant tire bigger fish as you have only short line of aproximately length of rod - so fight may end up pretty quickly, sometimes rather emotionally. To reduce chance of loosing fish due to breaking of weakest top - we tied line first at 1/3 or 1/4 rod length from the top - in that case when the tip breaks - you are still connected with the fish.

Yeah took me about 4 years before an insurance company stopped calling me. It wasnt just one company, each time they called it was a new company. I think the problem is, when you tell them to add you to the list, they only do it internally and not at a higher level (as in country wide). But either way they can get into trouble for it, even if it is an overseas company as they're operating under our law still. But most people dont complain to the right authorities.

I remembered, I had to help set it up for a company I worked at, and the information came from our government.

I think its a semi broken process, so it is not full proof but worth a shot.

If the annoying company has offices in Europe - contact one of those, and tell them to delete your data everywhere under GDPR - they take it there much seriously than here.

  8. Here are hooks from my "collection" - cant say tackle box - due to lack of their use.

    From top to down:

    1)  Tuna Circle Size 16/0  and TMC Size 15 flyfishing hooks.

    2) Waza's mentioned Wide Gap / Kahle hooks:  Mustad 7/0 and ? (the smallest one).

    3) Unusual stuff Mustad large open eye 90 turn Size 4 (still trying to figure out what is it made for!) and Zebco Zander Double Size 6 hooks.

If anyone interested in really small hooks - check fly-fishing online or brick stores. You might be surprised what really tiny hooks they sell.

Lead is lead and they are not much cheaper.

The Jarvis walker ‘whiz kidz’ $15 rod and reel combos are awesome! My daughter has a pink one where the reel has lights that flash when you crank the handle - great squid rod. I put a $60 daiwa reel on a white whiz kidz rod with high end x8 braid - great flathead lure rod.

Kmart lead was (is?) much cheaper, same ballistic characteristics.

I have some JW products too incl reels and rods.  My main dissapointment is in JW lines - I have 4 or 5 mostly useless  larger spools.  My JW 40lb Premium mono line breaks at 10lb.

JW is a big company, a lot of local distribution of top fishing brands,  a lot of export, a lot of fishing history. They can do much better!

Some of that cheap Jarvis Walker gear is really good but as you say some of its really bad. Reminds me of the local Indian takeaway, one weekend you get a curry fit for a raj and the next you’re curled up round the dunny streaming out both ends.

    You mean sinkers?

    Hi Savit,

Membership is free however we do ask that members assist with the raffle every so often. i.e. we take it in turns to run a prawn raffle at the Gladstone Bowling Club and we use this money to offset the cost of the trip.

Members pay $55 per trip, and you need to bring your own bait and gear.

If you are not sure that you want to join, the first trip is still $55, and we can supply gear. If you want to be a casual member the cost per trip is $85.

It is an a large timber boat and we take a maximum of 10 per trip. Plenty of space, buckets to keep your catch or bring an esky with ice. I have attached some photos.

Let me know if you are keen and I can give you further details i.e. contact details, time and departure location.

Thank you for the info. I hope more people find it useful. I will contact you later via PM.

    These prawns look good!

Also why would you use 1/12 for bream/trevally and not just 1/4? Does bream/trevally like it when it sinks slower?

1/4 (of ounce) jighead is heavier than 1/12 jighead

I wouldn't recommend bird watching to any guy that is dating or married.

Years ago I was watching birds(They were lovely) in my own little world when all of a sudden I felt whack!! across the face.

When i came to my senses i remembered I was standing on the beach with the mrs I was dating and must have fallen into a trance watching the birds.🤣😂

Here is what you can watch when the wife is not around. Usually it is eagles, this season - a duck 😁. The cam is in Sydney.
