Yeah my current trailer is single axle, and price quoted was for a single as well. Hows the quality on the Gal one you got mate? How's it tow and how's the gal, I've heard the galvanising is a problem with the Chinese trailers

Thanks mate. Hopefully someone who owns one or knows a bit of info on them would be handy before I take the plunge

Anyone got any reviews on Spitfire trailers? Got a price on a brand new full aluminum one with torsion springs, hydraulic brakes, LED lights, walk platform etc with boat fitted for $4550. I just don't know yet how long they have been around and how decent the trailers are. Being aluminium would take away the worry of cr@ppy galvanising which could be a possibility with the seatrail ones.

Mate would if I could but my trailer is out of rego in 2 weeks time and I don't think it will pass for a pink slip to be honest, otherwise I would just continue to flog it till it chucked it in.

You could probably private message me that info mate, I think that is allowed, is it Moderators?

Yeah I went and saw them mate, but they are bloody pricey. I'll check that out lyons90, thanks mate. Mate don't have that far to go, original plan was to repair mine but I believe the main outside support of the frame is rusting from the inside out. I put some pics up on a thread I started in the workshop category but member Franks pointed out that he thought it was rusting from the inside, and the more I looked the more I believe he is right, so think I'm up for a new trailer, I would go second hand but like you said, they go quick, and some of the ones I've seen advertised they look worse than mine!

Hi, Was going to refurb my trailer but believe its rusting from the inside out on the main outside support so will more than likely be looking at buying a new one. Anyone own or have anything nice to say about the setrail trailers? I went and looked at one today and it looked pretty solid. The guy there admitted that back in the early days of importing them they had issues with the galvinising as they were not cleaning the steel correctly but he said that has all been sorted now and they have had no problems other than the winch and the jockey wheel which he admitted were pretty crap and probably the only real issue they have with the new trailers. Any advice or stories by someone who actually owns one would be great. Thanks Geoff
  9. I thought about c-section but sort of cant get my head around how I could replicate what I have seeing it is boxed...
  10. Thanks Frank, I'll start to shop around for the steel and have a heap of questions no doubt too
  11. Thanks for the replies men. I have a mig welder, and I have access to metal saws at work also... I'd like to have a crack at building the new undercarriage because like you said Frank they are so bloody expensive for what they are.
  12. I know you know your stuff Frank and I respect what you say, so would you be suggesting a new trailer then mate?
  13. Will take a closer photo of that whole area Frank but mainly (hopefully) surface rust
  14. Wow, $600 to have 2 new pieces welded in, could only imagine then how much they'd be asking to replace a whole undercarriage then!!
  15. The main outside rail that holds it all seems to be pretty good still...
  16. You cannot notice it in the pics as much, but the arrowed areas are where it really needs attention. They have previously had plates welded over them in the past it would appear but the rust is pretty bad in these areas.
  17. Here is the undercarriage that has the rust. As you can see it is completely separate from the rest of the trailer so my plane if possible and makes sense money wise is to remake that whole section and bolt it in place of the old rusted one.
  18. This is a cross member along the front, which I'm hopeful would just be a case of cutting it out and replacing with a new part.
  19. Spoke too soon, can't upload any more now. I'll get some more up tonight at home.
  20. Sorry for delay in putting up the pics but having issues with my crap phone. Think I've got it now
  21. Nice Baz, I want to go have a crack at the squid myself have never caught one but would love to and I love my calamari!
  22. Thanks for the tips Fab. I'll get some pics up so you can see the area I'm talking about. Frank, I do know you have mate, had I been closer I would have come and saw you and asked for some advice or even tried to talk you into helping me :-) Thanks for the the advice mate, and I hope you are well, sing out if ever you are up this way Frank you're a legend.
  23. G'day all, Just wondering if anyone on this forum has fixed up a boat trailer that had a bit or rust or found it not worth it and bought new or second hand? My trailer is in need of repair mainly in what I guess you would call the undercarrige, the part that has the axle and spring connected to it, and I'm contemplating having a go at buying some lengths of SHS and re-welding a new undercarriage and either get it hot dipped or buy it already pre-galed. Has anyone else here done something similar or maybe more and found it cost effective and easy enough to do? I'm hoping so and would love to hear what you did and possibly a few pics. Thanks Geoff
  24. Good report Baz. So you thinking of getting a cabin boat now mate? I've pretty much decided to stick with mine for now and put a few dollars into some new seats and a couple other bits and pieces, for the money I don't think I'd get something as good as I have.... Just put up with the heavy tow and hopefully have my son on board a few more times to help launch.
