  1. I usually forget, but when winching up I try to remember to stand to the side & face the vehicle. It's something that's crossed my mind too. I would'nt think the cable would flick too much thou, but it could still take an eye out I reckon. I guess the best thing to do is check your cable regularly. Any strands broken would be an indication that it might be time to replace it. Cable shouldn't be too expensive. Having said that we use it for work so I get it for free, buying small amounts I suppose might get a little $$$ but hey, an eye for any price is still cheap.

    A Sign Of The Times?

If you're "Wondering" if the GEC "might" be effecting some change mate then I suggest you are in a fortunate position. I know lots of people who are struggling to put food on the table let alone purchase anything, new or secondhand. Don't fool yourself, the situation isn't all roses.

Those "Speed Bumps" won't be nearly as troublsome now Greg eh!

    Braid

I'm with you Stewy, Although I don't use really light stuff the Platypus line has been the best for me, it seems to have a more freindly feel to it & certainly doesn't cause the dramas I've had with Fins on my calcuttas. (Man I've had the worse birdsnests with that stuff right at the most inappropriate times)
  5. Just post it up with a pic mate & Slinky or one of the other Mods will confirm it & put it in the records. Post it here And make note of Slinky's post here. Put it in a post with a title like "Record submission" or something like that.
  6. Roberta is gonna clip your ears for that one mate! I can't wait to get back to Sydney (If I ever do!!!) Getting a line in will be awesome, but I also hope I might get there before the whales go too, that would be magnificent to see.
  7. Excellent Greg, you're nailin' them at the moment, well done on the PB.
  8. Brilliant! Love that idea. I have 2 electric downriggers which I reckon could possible be converted to something similar with bugger all effort. Thanks for the ideas mate that really is very cool.
  9. Hey guys Looking at all the bottom bashing posts at Browns recently & was wondering how long this type of deep bottom bashing is going to be around for? As in, is there a season for these activities (Which months) or can you do it all year round with a change of species? I saw the ingenious homemade electric reel & had a brain wave that I might be able to use my electric downrigger to do something similar. Am I running out of time to try this at Browns or do I have a few months still to go on the Blue Eye & Gemmies? Also, what is a typical terminal tackle setup (I understand sinkers should be monsters that are cheap & preferable detatch on bottom or on hookup)
  10. Ahhhhrg! Slinky what the....! Now everyones mail is gonna stink

    The Mighty Eels

I have to say, I've been a Union (Ra Ra) man for many years (I played both as a youngun' & prefered union) But the sensation of Jarrod Hayne has been something that I can't seem to resist watching. That fella is amazing. Watching him float around like someone who isn't really interested in the game then all of a sudden BANG, cop that! His talent has brought me back to watching the NRL which I would have said was impossible only 6 months ago. Credit where credit is due, Parra put together a game that is exciting to watch. On another note, I can't beleive the NRL isn't flogging the absolute soul out of the advertising hype that potentially has people like me willing to see the spectacle that is this years finals. Where are all the by-gone heros talking up the finals in an advertizing blitz? Opportunity lost I reckon. (And yes before someone else says it, I listen to the Continuous call team & agree wholeheartedly, NRL management is oblivious to the potential available to them right now) Go Parra, (Jesus I can't beleive I'm posting in a NRL subject whilst my woefull Wallabies play the men in Black!) Luckily I'm recording it so no spoilers please. (Atleast until tomorrow)
  14. Sorry Slinky but I have to disagree As those slimy, smelly leaking juicy things are quite often the only feckin smelly slimy fishy looking thing I ever bring home I can't live without them. If it wern't for Gulp I wouldn't know the pleasure of smelly fishes at all.
  15. If failed math & science Derek, but I do admit to a slight penchant of geek in me. If it flashes & makes noises generally its got my attention. Might explain why I have so many bloody gawdy rattling lures eh! Oh, no wait, thats coz I'm addicted to fishing. Geeze mate I was just starting to like you too! Actually you answered the odometre / speedo discrepency with the info you sent me from Wikipedia. Seems that the needle & the odometre or "Trip" metre are independantly driven by the cable, thus they could vary between each other. I still can't get over the fact that its all done with magnets, I thought it was supposed to be smoke & mirrors.
  16. So anyway, I actually worked out my blunder today whilst driving. (Seriously, I did it all by meself) But I came up with a few interesting facts. We have several (5) GPS units, 4 are identical & one is the same make but a different model. They all calculate the same in a vehicle travelling at 100 k/hr (Actually one read 101 but all others were exactly 100k/hr. Now, these units tell me that my speedo is exactly 8 k/hr slower than what the GPS reads. IE when the vehicle speedo reads 100k/hr the GPS says 92. However, the trip metre in the GPS reads different to the odometre by only 4.08 per 100 kilometres. Here's my calcs. Vehicle odometre reads 0 to 25.0 kilometres. GPS odometre reads 0 to 23.98 kilometres. 25 kilometres was the longest test I did but I also did several over a 5 kilometre distance & the vehicle odometre said 5 kilometres while the GPS read 4.8 kilometres So how is this right? My odometre is out by 4.08 but my speedo is out by 8? What's the go there, I would have thought they would be the same? Sorry if I hijacked this post
  17. Ahhhh I was wondering when someone would spot my obvious & deliberate mistake........... Ok ok I got is ass about didneye. Is there a prize for the correct answer? Derek I reckon you should go halvies with me seeing as I helped prompt you into action.....So I'll have 33% of whatever the prize is eh!
  18. 100 / 5 (Distance measured) = 20 20 X 4.7 (What your speedo said you travelled) = 94 Therefore if you travelled a set distance of 100 kilometres your speedo would only read 94 kilometres Your speedo is 6klms/hr out at 100 When your speedo says your're doing 100klms/hr you are actually only doing 94klms/hr Or another way to check it: If you sat on exactly 100klms/hr for a measured distance of 100klms/ hr your actual distance travelled would still only be 94 kilometres. Therefore to reach 100kilometres in distance you will need to drive a little longer in time to reach it, thus your were not driving at 100 klms/hr Make sense? I'd be very surprised to see a speedo these days that is on the high side unless you seriously tamper with tyres. Manufacturers ere on the side of caution methinx.
  19. I reckon some of the "Weird Sounds" that have been hear are probably a few of the Raiders snoring during a Hairtail social! I've heard a few rumours about the wicked sounds some of our resident "Hawkesbury monsters" can make eh Ross!
  20. Hey mate I use these on my D/R's with 300lbs braid no probs, not sure how the wire will go? They work a treat but be warned, in a flurry of activity & excitement they can come off when knocked & they also sink.....really fast! So I now carry a spare. Good luck with them, hope they = lottsa fish for ya.
  21. No denying they are everywhere & that they are in fact good game & also make a tasty meal. Just my opinion regarding dam stocking. Obviously my views aren't shared with most here so I'll get back in my box. Just stating whats read on the DPI website regarding Redfin.
  22. Sorry to be a party pooper here but Redfin are a Pest as you mentioned. Purposly stocking a dam with them , regardless of it being a private dam or not is pretty ignorant. From the DPI

    Metal Detecting

When I was 18 & living in WA working around alot of gold mining areas it wasn't unusual to see 10 - 15 guys on the sides of the roads or in padocks looking for gold on a trip between Kalgoorlie to Perth. My mate & I borrowed one once (for a few hours whilst working alongside a guy who had one) We walked across a padock & got loads of hits, with our little shovels & kid like enthusiasm we must have dug 30 holes about every metre across that patch of dirt & slowly getting frustrate that there was nothing there. Old mate came over & watched us for a while & then started cracking up laughing. We'd been detecting our steel capped boots the whole time!
