    Drag Settings

Scon, if you are refering to braid on a spinning reel than, you normally use: 1. cheap mono as your backing line 2. braid about 50-60m worth to allow you to cast as far as possible 3. and leader about 2m worth before the lure, thickness to suit the terain. mr rb.
  3. Hi all , just a question as i am interested in keeping a tank with some bait fish aswell ! I have never had a saltwater fish tank . 1.Can I simply just get normal sea water formt he river and install a filter with cotton / charcoal ? 2. Do i need to add chemicals (monthly / weekly) ? as you need to for a fresh water aquarium. 3. Can you start with freshwater and add an additive to make it saltwater ? 4. I have been told that water lost through evaporation can be replaced with fresh water ? is this true any help is appreciated. MR RB.

    Bream

Thanks guys, Yeah definitely big bream season now ! I have been getting some decent catches lately mainly from deeper water on the run out, but the sand flats at hi tide are very exciting. The only draw back with light line is dropping nice flatties.

    Bream

Hi all, I Caught 7 thumper bream last friday night around high tide near some sand flats in Rosebay. Water was approx 1 m deep and the bream ranged from 35 to just under 40 cms. They were very aggressive ! Squid strips and tailor fillets marinated in tuna oil. MY mate failed to catch a bream, he was spewing ! Only difference was our lines 12lb versus 8 lb. MR RB.
  8. Hi all, I grilled some freshly caught salmon afew yrs ago and it was the most horrible thing i tasted. my dog even refused ! lol. MR RB.
  9. Hi all, Many of my bream angler mates do confess that the hacking is very hard work, in comparison to botany and harbour (parra river). There are some good fish still there but the clarity of the water , and the boating traffic does make it very difficult. Not sure about kings though ! MR RB.
  10. Hi jim, You seem to always do very well, Well down. Do you normally drift or anchor >? what do you use for berley ? regards MR RB>
  11. Thanks guys, I did some research on this and it is fat. Just suprised me, as the last two bream I opened up had fat approxiamtely 10-15mm thick, around the gut lining, I usually see bream with hardly any fat at all . cheers
  12. Hi all, I managed to pick up 3 bream on saturday afternoon from botany bay. While cleaning the fish at home I noticed that two of the bream, had a fairly thick, white, oily sticky substance around the perimeter of gut cavity. I have caught many bream and never come across this before. Does anyone know what this is ? Mr RB.
  13. You may have picked up some sand, and you will need to clean out the suction area near the prop. If the tale indicator is showing no water but the rear of the outboard has a lot of flow you may need to push a wire through the tale indicator to unblock it .. good luck MR RB>

    Diy Canopy

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or tips on a DIY canopy. The boat is shown in the photo. Is it best to come off the top of the windscreen or to build a frame up high similar to the type of cover a centre console boat has ? Where can i purchase 90 deg aluminium elbows ? What is the best method for fittting the canvas to the aluminium tubing ? Can you purchase clips or will i have to sow the canvas over itself and feed the tubing through it ? Mr RB.

    Permatrim

Thanks Gibbo, I installed a permatrim wing a couple of days ago, and did it make a difference !. Even though i only had two people on the boat, it got up onto the plane at really low speeds and i was cruising around at half throttle (instead of 3/4 throttle) all day long. I also felt like the boat travelled more horizontal rather than going up and down over chop. MR RB.
  16. GREAT CATCH, GOOD WORK. What bait did you get the bream on ? MR RB.
  17. Great catch, You didn't get it with chicken parmigiana ? MR RB.

    Permatrim

Hi all, The boat is a 2005 model Aluminium Seaman Brooker Runabout with 50HP DT 50 Suzuki motor 1982 model. See pict. Huey, the boat is made of aluminium, but i still feel that it may be slightly under powered. PM me a price please. Mr RB.

    Painting Gal

JIM, I doubt that painting over the galvanised steel would be of benefit, as most of the more rusted components of the trailer are tubular sections and the rust starts from inside, hence painting the inside would be impossible. Saltwater stays inside the hollow sections as the manufacturers leave a hole for galvanising on the under side and it is virtually impossible to hose down and clean properly after use. When i purchased my new trailer, i sealed these holes with sikaflex prior to dipping in saltwater. If you are worried about asthetics , than just sand or brush back the rusted areas, clean and spray with cold- gal. Mr RB.
  20. WHAT A MONSTER ! ..... WELL DONE. MR RB.
  21. Thanks guys, We had live soldier crabs, live nippers, and pilchards out on different rods and she took the chicken fillet breast marinated in parmesan cheese. ??? A lot of people looked at me and said "as if". I replied that is was all in the berley trail. As it was brought in close to the boat, my passengers called it a "string ray", then a "shark", there was even talk about cutting the line, the minute i laid eyes on it, i yelled " GET THE NET !!!!" HEART PUMPING STUFF ! Middle of the run in tide. The fight will be remembered for a while. Cheers Mr RB.

    Permatrim

Hi all, Just wondering what your thoughts are with fitting a permatrim to an outboard ? I have a 15ft alloy runabout, with a 50 HP 2 stroke and find that with the motor fUllY trimmed in, i can not get it on the plane with 4 people in it. (correction, i can get it on the plane if all 4 stand near the front swivel seats). The cavitation plate is level with the underside of the boat and 50 Hp is the largest i can legally put on the boat. Will permatrim help ??? or changing the prop. ??? What are other advantages or disadvantages with fitting the permatrim ? thanks mr rb.
