  2. went to bed at 11:30 pm woke at 1:30am. picked up the cousin from a nearby street, as he lost his license and copped a 600 odd dollar fine - driving to my place at 2:15am. (this was going to be a very expensive fishing trip for him). on the water at 3am. got a few yakas and off to our spot in burraneer bay. 4 am to 6am not a touch from any livie or fresh yaka. 6:30 am houlling sotherly hit forecasted for 13-18knots, but felt like an easy 25-30knots. 8am try shallows in SWarm for nothing. 9am try some spots in gunamatta for 3 illiegal snapper, and 1 keeper travelly. back at the ramp at 10am. Pretty dissappointing morning. Did any raiders have any luck on Sunday morning ??? MR RB.
  3. You would think that our fishing licences could be put to good use.... Like offering a yearly report on water quality and fish quality....similar to what they have done for the harbour but for other waterways ........... or will that just damage the industry ??? Mr RB.
  4. Well done, rob, good work... they aren't bream .. there horses ... MR RB.
  5. thanks for the advice, some interesting ones in there, I'll give them a shot . cheers MR RB>

Thanks Hodgey, valuable reading..... i"ll give it another shot soon . cheers MR RB.
  9. Hi all, its been a while since I've posted. Moving off the bream and on to the Jew. A mate hooked a half metre Jew last week on a servo prawn, we couldn't believe it, but now we are keen to catch some larger cousins. But we need SQUID ! We have attempted a few well known spots in the hacking, to no avail, water temp has been between 12 and 14 degrees. We have used 2.5 amd 3.0 jiggs while drifting with the boat, during the day, normally between 3 and 5pm around the start of the run in, the last month. Is there anything obvious we are doing wrong ? Are squid more common during the NIGHT around well lit wharfs insetad of day? Are they easy to catch in summer or winter? Help with above will be well appreciated. cheers MR RB>
  10. guys, thanks for the replies..... and long delay in responding ! sand did not work at all for me .... just kinked the pipe. a guy i know bent them for me with a hydraulic jack type bender, dont ask me how...... i must admit you would think the shop did it... fabric was done home style, doesn't look thatbad at all. pictures to follow. cheers Mr Rb.

    Jew Spots.

Hi all, Sick of catching bream, Can anyone shed some light of some possible jew locations in port hacking. I fish by boat , I'm not after secret spots but if someone can suggest roughly where they may get them in gunamatta buraneer or SWA , or lillipilli anywhere really. And what tide ? thanks Mr RB.
  12. Hi, i used to fish the harbour, mainly around shark island until the dioxins scared me away. My father fished there years ago when big snapper with large knobbed foreheads and metre long flatties were common. He fished with handlines and used to put band aids on his fingers to prevent the line from ripping into the skin. Those days are long gone. I mainly fish port hacking with the occassional botany bay bash. Port hacking is very very tough at times. cheers.
  13. Catching good bags of bream consistently, is definitely an art...... well done. My misses tells me I take too seriously. I have been getting some small but decent bags of bream aswell, 8 bream between 33 to 40cm is not uncommon. cheers.
  14. very informative Jewgaffer, might explain how this yr has been a lot slower for me so far compared to last summer. i normally fish for bream and flatties. I had a decent hall of bream on the 1st of dec 08, but nothing worth commenting on since. MR RB
  15. Hi, where are good areas to fish with live poddies in the hacking for flatties, run in or out ? hacking has been very hard work during dec / jan compared to last yr. cheers.
  16. Anyone got any idea of the water temp in the georges river and/or hacking ? cheers
  17. Hi guys, well done on the trolling, i suppose you would pick up a frew flatties aswell. with the trolling, are we talking electric or petrol ? , if so how fast, for sx 40/48's and roughly what water depth do you target ? cheers.
  18. Hi cut loose, great post, some good info there on a river system that can be very difficult to crack. i normally fish gunamutta and burraneer bay and occasionally towards jibbon beach and mainbar flats, for flathead, bream and whiting. I have spent a number of yrs learning the river and it is now that i can catch a few legal fish on most outings. I must admit that most of my luck comes during the summer. But i would love to hear your opinion on some areas to try during the winter (for the above species)? In addition, a lot of people talk about the sth west arm, but it has never produced a fish for me, got any tips ? Anyway, a top report, that will assist many. Mr RB.
  19. Hi brickman, thats a top idea.. im looking at getting a mincer aswell. can you tell me what number it is 8,10,12 etc ? i think it reflects the size, the high the number, the larger the mincer. what number would you recommend ? i dont want to end up with somehting that is too small. thanks. Mr RB
  20. well done robbee, you always do well ! cheers MR RB.
  21. Hodgey, 19 fish ! I would be happy with that !! Great catch, Im looking forward to hearing some "how to Plastics" reports. MR RB
  22. well done mate, some of us can only dream of hooking something like that. cheers [
  23. Hi all, I' m in the process of building a boat cover on my 15ft runabout. the reasons are: to prevent getting wet while fishing and prevent sun burns for me and the kids. I have steered away from buying conventional biminis as they impede too much on fishing space. So i have designed a frame that will have the following characteristics: 1. be out of the way as much as possible while fishing under it. 2. being able to drive while standing and your head not fouling on it. 3. being able to tilt forward to prevent getting wet during storm conditions. 4. being able to tilt forward past the windscreen (while folded up) hence making night time fishing the same without the cover. Advice is needed below. 1. Now, I have designed the frame, but my next hurdle is trying to find someone to bend 25mm alloy tubing. This is becoming more difficult than i thought and is stopping progress atm. Does anyone have a tube bender that i can borrow for 25mm alloy pipe, or any info relating to this. 2. Once the frame is built i will need to get the fabric sewn (i can source an industrial machine), has anyone done this before, should i aim for a flat cover or should i curve the edges down 100mm similar to conventional canopies ? I will post photos once i get past the bending stage ! PS: tilting will occur using telescopic supports coming from handrails adjacent to the anchor well. MR RB.

    Sea Sickness

Hi all, i get crook at the thought of a sydney ferry driving past my boat. blackmoores travelcalm, did not work at all for me . this actually made me vomit more in the boat and gave me a bad case or diarheia (not sure of spelling). kwells helped but i still get crook in rough conditions. i was watching myth busters last week and they tested a few remedies for sea sickness. they said that it occurs due to the boat roll and a frequency of 0.2 Hz They tested the following on two people: 1) ginger tablets : the test lasted for 30 min and both did not get sick - this worked the best. 2) wrist bands : sick within 1 mintue 3) placebo tablet (panadol) : got sick after about 3mins. 4) tablet for seas sickness: worked on 1 of the subject, didnt work on the other (sick after 9mins). tests were done on the two blind folded on a machine that similated a boat. they concluded, by saying that each individual is different and that you must experiment with different tablets to find one that suit the individual. regards MR RB.
  25. The hacking is hard work. It a very small water way with enormous amounts of boat traffic, add clear water and it can account for many fishless trips. Guys i know dont even bother anymore. Doesn't compare to botany and the harbour. my 2 cents MR RB.
