  1. Cain, the winch cable should go under the roller not over, you should push the winch up to allow this to happen. roller trailers are more suited to fibreglass boats as the rollers can dent the aluminium as there is more load concentrated at the roller. It may be abetter idea to install two skids and remove the rollers. the rear roller look ok with regard to the transom, 200-250mm is an approx measurement from skid to transom or roller to transom. the weight on the tow bar should be 10% of the total weight you are towing. the fact that you moved the boat forward, you need to push the axle and wheels forward to obtain 10%o f the total weight at the coupling.

    Burley Pot

RE the blue coloured $5 pots. They have two or three U shaped tags on them to allow you to tie rope or fishing line to. They eventually crack and before you know it you are saying bye bye to the pot. So i cut the tags off. The best way to avoid losing the pot is to drill (8mm) hole through threads at the top of the pot and use a stainless steel clip through this hole. The clip is then connected to your rope. To open the pot you remove the SS clip. I don't use rope as i am a bit worried of a shark deciding to take the pot and the boat for a joy ride , so i use 30 lb mono instead, so that it would break in that situation. my 2 cents! MR RB
  3. The hacking is a very very hard place to fish, possibly because it is a very tiny waterway and the water is very clear. I find that that a good bag of fish form the hacking is a very poor bag compared to what you can get out of the harbour. MR RB.
  4. 81cms, 5 kilo, took a chook bait last week, MH cheers.
  5. Try hard, in my opnion check the connection/fitting between the fuel line and the petrol tank. One of my previous motors decided to stall in the middle of botany bay. when i looked at the hand pump it had sucked inwards, i cut the fuel line fitting off and held the fuel line in the petrol tank by hand and this got me home. empty the clear fuel bowl before the petrol pump to half way, get some one to hold the fittingless fuel line in a container of petrol, and start the engine. If the petrol pump is working the clear fuel bowl should fill up straight away. If the blockage was is in the fuel connection the engine should continue to run. This problem occured to me without warning and the engine had not missed a beat the week before. cheers.

    Top Baits

I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS WERE ON THE BEST TOP 2 BAITS FOR THE ABOVE SPECIES. I have spent a lot of time the last few weeks catching poddy mullet, soldiers crabs and nippers and have found that the catch rate using this bait is only 5-10% of the fish I have caught. The above baits seem to be stripped from pickers, and not worth the effort. I am finding pilchards and chicken working alot better atm, recent catches include an 81 cm 5kilo flathead, and many above 30cm bream. interested in your thoughts. cheers.
  7. I have fished the hacking for the last few months, near mainbar and lili pilli for whiting, bream and flathead for below average success. Can anyone shed some light on some well known spots i could try in the south west arm by boat ? Advise on bait, tides and approximate depth etc. would be appreciated. I prefer to anchor and berley. any info is welcome. PS. my sources have suggested that the bream are on in botany bay, around the 3rd runway, a mate caught 34 legal bream, He release 24 and kept 10 for the table last week. cheers.
  8. GREAT FISH, WHAT A FORE HEAD !
  9. people, I picked up a playstick rod, 6 foot with fuji guides and cork handle (3-6 kilo) and a reel called a LineWinder GF (Globe) Series GF1000 with 9 ball bearings. The combo feels ultralight. I paid $ 80 bucks for the combo . I have no idea, if i got good value for money or if i got ripped off , i walked up to the guy and said to him, im after a bream spinning reel and rod, and he matched this up for me. Did i do ok or not ? Mr RB
  10. I got a new trailer for 1250 with alloy wheels. last yr. Company is called Sales Trailers, thye are out at peakhurst NSW<> good quality as well for my 4.5 metre aluminium boat. MR RB.
  11. Dumped the boat in at rose bay, on saturday arvo. Hit middle harbour for a bottom bash. We managed 35 and 30 cm snapper, three bream 28 cms and an octopus. Mr RB. sorry no picts.
  12. Just going off the topic here. Has anyone tried a floating trap rather than one sitting on the bottom? For poddies. Maybe a juice bottle floating with holes in the sides tied to a sinker on the bottom. reason for asking is that i see the larger 5 to 6inch mullets hanging out a little deeper. Mr RB
  13. Fished saturday, arvo. There was a 1.0 approx metre swell as we went past the heads. Not much of problem. Got into middle harbour pretty easily. Would have been a different story if it was an eastily swell.. Thanks anyhow. Mr RB
  14. The forecast for sat is 3 metre southerly swell and 20 knots outside the harbour. Wind approx 10 to 15 knots southerly in the harbour. I plan to motor over to manly from rose bay, Should I expect chop and swell when passing across the heads or will the mouth be secluded from the southerly swell ? Thanks.
  15. I going to hit the Harbour on sat arvo. For some snapper, bream and possible jew. I' m hoping to get some poddies this arvo. Mr RB.
  16. You can get them from any beach along the georges. I got mine from Kelso Beach. it was the top of the tide. MR RB.

    Busted

Times have changed. Back in 2002, i was on CG wharf when two fisheries offices came and start look ing at poeple catches. There must have been over 30 people fishing. I was the first one they approached. I thought here we go, i was relaxed as i had purchased my fishing licence and i felt bad because the people that i was fishing with didnt have one and alot of poeple fishing off the wharf didnt have one. I thought they are all going to get fined. So i asked the officer, do you want to see my fishing licence ? the answer was "no, its not required " I felt so angry, i had just spent $25 for a fishing licence and they didnt even bother to check. Poeple had undersized fish and all they did was through them back in the water. No fines were given. So it took me 5 years to purchase another fishing licence. I bought one last month. Never been pulled up in that 5 year period. Talk about double standards. You either book people or you don' t. MR RB.
  18. yeah ill keep the conditions in mind. It was at the top of the 1.8 m tide. Are others getting fish from the hacking ? Becasue the last 7 times i have been in the hacking i have caught zilch. Harbour is a different story. I have never came back fishless. IFISHSICK, what part of the tide do you recommend for the spit and the baths, for flatties. MR RB.
  19. Thank you raiders, for the help in catching poddies. I got 20, from the Geroges River on saturday morning, with one of those mesh traps. Unfortunately, i took them out in the hacking and got ZIP. I drifted near the deep water at lili pilli, = zip drifted in front of yowie and Gymea Bay, = zip drifted and anchored in gunmatta bay drop offs in front of darook , zip. anchored in the channel near the bundeena point, zip. The mullets were being terrorised by small snapper at times.. Pretty shattered. I have never been able to bring anything home from the hacking. I thought with live mullets i would be able to get something.

    Port Hacking

Thanks raiders, will give it a shot, tossing up whether to hit hacking or harbour, this weekend any possible spots for kingies or possible jew in the hacking. The moored boats in gunamatta, are they productive. ? Mr RB.
  21. Hi, I have been fishing in port hacking a number of times, (6 times) but have not had any luck at all. Never brought a keeper home. Can anyone shed some light as to where i might get a feed of whiting, bream, flathead, or even kingfish within the port and what tides would suit best. I drop the boat in at burraneer bay, Any help is welcome. The aim is to catch some fish for my little 8month old Mr RB.

eucalyptice oil is the best mr RB
  23. well done mate, great catch. MR RB.
  24. After catching about 30 yakas, nth side. we tried yellow quarantine marker for zip, around 6 am we tried 2 km off north head for zip. Then head south to wedding cakes off coogee beach, to pull in a fairly large sargeant baker that was tossed back. Head back into the harbour, and drifted past the red marker near sow and pigs, 1st king 61 cms. I was stoked , caught my first king in the first session i have targeted them. My cousin had a lot to do with it. Then we drifted along clifton gardens, another king 62 cms, was through the moon. Cousin was probably dissappointed at not catching anything outside, but heh, I had just pulled in my first two kings and I was very very delighted. They fight very very good. We will see what these bastards taste like. I am looking into building a live bait tank for my boat… im hooked. I have to admit, I was a tad worried when I was outside in a 13 ft tinny, with very very low sides. Nevertheless, it was a great day. Mr RB.
