  2. Hey all, Is anyone here a member of a Game fishing club in Sydney? How many are there, how often are tournaments run, what are the clubs like? Regards,
  3. Hey all, Just wondering how does everyone connect their mainline (say 24kg) to your leader when trolling lures for marlin and tuna? Do you prefer a wind on leader or other? Thanks in advance. Regards, Daniel
  4. Great catch mate..what sort of lures did u get the fish on?
  5. Thanks ungrie, but I know you know more haha Please feel free to share the knowledge
  6. Hey all, Just after a run down for gamefishing trends off sydney. What i'm after is the typical seasons/months that certain species are likely to appear. What i have gathered up until now are: Winter to early Spring: Yellowfin tuna, odd marlin, odd run of BFT, blue eye and gemmies Mid Spring to mid summer: Marlin, dollies at the fads, gemfish plague, mako sharks Obviously this is information i have gathered from different bits and pieces, but i'd like someone in "the know" to possibly shed some light on what to expect and when/where. Reason for asking is because im about to purchase some gear, and i'd like to space it out a bit. Regards, DAN
  7. Hey mate, i have heard good reports about port stephens in february. Typically, when is the most favourable time to fish for marlin in PS?
  8. If someone trolls directly over your lines then that's a different story, however if the whole of north head is boiling with salmon as it has been, then you should ask that person to move on to another school politely or do do yourself.. No need to be arrogant, you don't own the water nor the fish. I don't troll through schools, but wake up and start respecting other peoples methods of catching fish. Not all boats are equipped with 2nd spin gear capable of casting a 5gram 40m+. That should not be a reason why they don't have an equal right to target school fish..
  9. Great catch mate! Good to see others have been getting in on the action! Have to disagree about trolling through schools of fish though, not that I do, I like to stay on the edges and cast into the schools etc etc. However, prior to rods and reels people had handlines..and trolling around and through schools was the norm..so it is usually these people who like to stick to the older methods such as trolling (be it with a rod or not) for catching surface species and one should totally respect that..beyond that, we are gifted in Sydney to have acres of salmon around our headland, even if the school is spooked, they will return or move on and find another. Especially when the modern day fisho with all the latest gear bag out on pelagics and get double even tripple digits in one session, I think it's unjust to frown upon the odd boat that perhaps doesn't know any better but to troll through a school of fish for a feed. Nonetheless, great catch and hopefully they hang around a bit longer!
  10. Lucky I stayed in Sydney then, cheers mate..whereabouts do you get the gemmies?
  11. Could you please let me know how you go? I am driving up tomorrow night, not sure whether to bring the game gear or the snapper/squid gear..
  12. Has anyone heard any reports of any fish being caught down south? Should be heading down on sunday if weather permits. Would love to know there fish about. Regards,
  13. Type in 'pakula tips' in youtube, he did a wrap on this, and also he has many other intersting tips. Regards,
  14. Thanks guys, can anyone recommend a reliable online store where i can purchase moi moi line? Regards
  15. Hey all, Does anyone use 80lb braid when targeting blue eye and gem fish? Whilst i believe 200lb is the the way to go, is 80lb ample enough for these deep ooglies? Will i come across any problems if im to use 80lb braid? The reel im looking at getting is a Tanacom Bull or Seaborg 1000 (equivalent line capacity to a miya epoch 6HP yet almost half the price). The next question is the line capacity. Is 800m sufficient for browns? Any help is appreciated
  16. Hey all, Who here does topshotting? I like the idea of using 80% braid and 20% mono. What are the pro's and con's? Has anyone had any bad experiences with this method?
  17. Thanks guys, some top info there..where can I purcashe moi moi line? How much am expecting to pay? LBG - why only 10-15kg? Isn't it better to have a heavier line class for larger fish?
  18. Hey, Just looking to take a few notes on what type of line everyone uses for game fishing..I'm looking at running 24kg on a Tld 50. People are telling me my black manic spool just won't make the cut.. Dan
  19. Hey all, Just after a comparison on the above two sounders. Any help is appreciated. DAN
  20. Thanks Lineclass, thats just the sort of detailed description i was after , i appreciate it. Another boat i am very interested in is the TABS ocean series, if you or anyone else has any info on this boat, it would be greatly appreciated. I still am open to any other positive wrap on any other similar rigs. Regards, DAN
  21. Thanks for the reply lineclass. The question was meant to be open for gamefisherman to state what they use and what they knowledge they have accumulated over the years through their own experience and through that of their peers. Hopefully some of that can be shared on this forum. For example, i'd really like to know more about your experiences of your barcrusher, how it performs and why you chose it over others?
