  1. Catching some makes it worthwhile . Rough old ride back to Drummoyne I bet. I won't be surprised to see boats blown off their mooring tomorrow.
  2. Nice catch. I see there is a record for Remora in the bait fishing records 72cm. Nothing in the lure fishing records. You should submit it.
  3. When I'm fishing alone, and get on to a school of tailor, and the guys down the beach aren't getting any, I call them over. The more bait in the water, the more action. More action brings more action. I called two pommie tourists, fishing the beach, they had pillies getting nothing. They came up to my spot and got their first second third.......fish The school hung around for an hour or so, while they were still chucking pillies, I sent out the big baits. I used them as berley

Thanks Trevor I will be in touch. Take care, Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Andrew
  5. I went on a charter in the harbour. And these guys are assisting in the tagging program. The tracks of the tagged sharks are "colouring in" the map of the place. Nowhere they don't go. I would not feel comfortable on a sit on style kayak. Primal fear kicks in when you see that fin tracking beside you. I experienced it in the Solomons, and they were "friendly" reef sharks. New boardies required.

Another nice bag there. Your knowledge and consistency, My Grandad would say "You're blood's worth bottling" You are seriously making me think of changing to the dark side.
  7. Good on ya. Man I've followed your posts, and knew it would happen, sooner or later. Be confident, you cracked it .The keeper is just around the corner. The switch from bait to lures is difficult, and a learning curve. Keep asking questions. Like Catweazel, "show me the secrets of this strange trickery, that I might do it"
  8. Mate that's Awesome. You've got a great spot down there. Keep em coming.
  9. "Here's my mate going hammer and tong with a fish whilst I'm doing the dirty work." Typical. HaHa. It's like fishing with a few mates of mine who don't like getting their hands dirty. Love salmon off the beach. Well Done. How was the wind down there.
  10. Around sunrise or sunset. I prefer run up to the high or high tide. The afternoon is more comfortable, and who know what you might snag later
  11. You won't see tailor for sale.It doesn't last, doesn't freeze. You have to get them . Try Nth Entrance .
  12. If you're going off the beach, 3 x 4/0 gang hooks on a 30lb leader up to a swivel, with a 1oz ball sinker. Use WA Pilchards or Garfish for bait. Go for the gutters holes and rips, places where the deep water meets the shallow. If you see someone nearby get one, get ready....They're here. They move from place to place, so be prepared to move until you find them. Bleed the keepers into the bait bucket to enhance the appeal. Fresh tailor strips will work as bait for more tailor, or a slab on a big hook for a Jewie
  13. Fish the usual likely places, edges of sandbanks, channels and holes, Look for places where the breaking waves meet unbroken water. Keep moving down the beach until you find the fish. Good luck
  14. First time posting a link http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/offtrack/5430118 If it doesn't work google ABC RN off track fishing pier 2 , it was broadcast in May 2014 Go down the page to Saturday night fishing fever for the full story. Check it out, it made me think. Great post Ryder
  15. Send a message to Roberta. She wrote excellent pinned articles in fishing chat. ie best ever blackfish tips, and beach worming. She is a local legend. Check out her reports, then click on her name, then on 'send me a message' I'm sure she will help.
  16. I was using normal fly line in the salt, and it smoothed and cleaned things. In freshwater it's recommended as a line conditioner, you only need to use it a few times per year. Especially before storage. I didn't progress to salt water line, it was my River Somewhere period.
  17. I dabbled years ago, fishing Parramatta River, bays and Narrabeen lake. Burley up, bread for the bread fly, etc. The best advice I was given was get some speed line.sorry line speed The salt and pollutants in the water effect the fly line, making it dirty and rough. A simple wipe every five casts makes the line flow. Use quality flies .
  18. I think you're right. Samson
  19. Nice haul. A real smorgasbord. There were heaps of baitfish around Balmoral wharf Thursday arvo. Same ,no surface action. Today at Drummoyne there were a few bust ups near the ramp. I saw a lot of 2-3 inch herring. Nice to hear squid are around, I need some tomorrow .
  20. What about a Seamartin mk2 reel. It's an odd looker, but I've heard it's a great beach reel. Long cast records have been set with it. Looks like an Alvey/ Threadline hybrid. Aussie made. I saw a guy on Stanwell last year with one. Long cast, but I hear slow retrieve, not a spinning reel.
  21. It was definitely up there, good beach bream .
  22. I use a small treble or stinger at the end of gang hooks, beach fishing for tailor. After a fishless night, I was taking my rod inside, lightly holding the gang so I didn't hook the Cat on the way in. The reel hit the door jam and drove stinger deep into my finger. Back out to the car, got the pliers, cut the line and cut the gangs leaving only the stinger. 'Hi Honey I'm home'. Can you help me? Off to RPA around midnight, getting bumped to the end of the queue while the usual Saturday night victims came in. Finally get to the doctor, young intern who gave me a local and tried the 'push down the shank and pull the bend' method. When that didn't work he was going to make an incision. I had a big turfing job on Monday, I didn't want stitches . I asked him to push it thru. He reluctantly did it, then he tried to cut the hook. His surgical tools were no match for a high carbon steel treble. Then his mate, another intern, brings the ring cutter.( Like a small angle grinder.) Filings falling on the table, they thought they were winning, but they were just destroying out the blade. Then I suggested crimp the barb. It didnt crimp, it snapped off and flew away. Hook finally out, home around 4am with a bandaid.

    Where to buy?

Do the research prices etc and ask the local if they will match it. You might be surprised , and you will have your goodies, no waiting
  24. I looked at the sol recently, and didnt know about mag seal. It was the air rotor, the new futuristic look that had me. Like lures, rods and reels, they have to catch fishermen before they catch fish. I'm sure you know what the competitors have to offer. It certainly looks good.
  25. Mate you're a great teacher, and a real asset to Fishraider Cheers Ryder
