  1. No Problems mate. I am glad you got some good hook ups!! I just have to get a boat now so that i can get the buggers more readily! they swim off after a couple of mins from land based spots. Just dont catch all of them..i want to try and get some Wednesday morning
  2. I have a full Bonnie in the freezer....im sure that would work. I dont know if i will do it tongiht, not enough time to organise what I would need, and just incase something bighger hit i would haver to go abit heavier gear thatn what I would for a smaller one. I just more abit happy that he is around, and see it as abit of game fishing haha. Goes to show how good the water ways are becoming....lots of nice fish around and lots of good predators also I have heard of them being caught in the bays and the hacking...just never seen one in person before in the waterways...apart from out near Jibbon Beach
  3. Yeh she is a good girl.....even woke early (around 5) to come fishing then i went to work and she went back to bed hehe I have never seen a shark in the actually bays of the hacking...pretty exciting!
  4. Hey, Convinced the girlfriend to run around the corner 5mins to Gymea Bay Baths and try out some new lures that I have purchased. So we got down there and there was a bunch of kids talking about sharks, etc and there was afair bit of surface movement as most days down there from memory. Threw the lure around for most of the time with nothing apart from seeing how long they take to sink, movement, and general knowledge i gained from watching each lure do its thing. After abit a small group of baby tailor jumped abit and there was a decent size fish or to....got a strike but misseed what looked to be a rat kingfish, or possibly a decent size tailor...to hard to tell...it then went back to being quiet again. I then tried for some squid with no luck, but i did have my legs hanging near the water and to my suprise i looked down for some unknown reason and saw a SHARK atleast 1.3 or so metres long crusing past my foot....it couldnt tell the exact species, but i would say it was either a whaler or a small bull. The mum next to me whose kids where swimming in the baths heard me say it and freaked and everyone left the water pretty fast, because the nets have fallen and he can go in and out of it....only saw him for about 30seconds or so. Was great to see, i wonder how many more are around!!!! I also headed down lilli pilli baths thism orning with no luck at all, saw 2 bonito jump but didnt get a strike neither did anyone else there at around 5:30 to 7ish apart from a boat 50m out which i saw catch 2 or 3 what looked to be rat kingies...which they were keeping. Anyway hope others had a good session today, im thinking about setting a nice big hook with fresh fish ir squid for sharky one night...any thoughts?
  5. Hi, Just got my spool done with 10lb green fireline....just curious as to what knots work best, i have read uni knots and palomar.
  6. Yeh haha Well i got 2 bonnies and the kingy yesterday and there was a guy on land part of baths casting near boats and he got a tailor and 2 bonnies, and there was say 2 boats near him and they got nothing...but they have deffinately better options to them...the kingies were in the boats..u could see them jumping about, i was just lucky that i got one and had a few follow him up from the school outfront of me..which i could see really..i just cast and hope and the right time of the day haha
  7. Give me times available and might be able to go down and hook some up...the only problem i am having at the moment is they are only on the bite for around 10mintues....need a boat to terack them down! I will grab a few different lures, any more recommended types? I will try searock and maybe a few others. Thanx for the helps ladies and gents That offer is for anyone...
  8. Just a small metal one...think it was a viva brand one. just shiny metal, gold or silver. Im heading down the shop to get a few more today in different sizes, i think just from ****** as i have to go there anyway, any brands recommended or types?
  9. If i have time tomorrow morning i think will will head down with just lure and see what i can hit up...hopefully a keeper kingy. Havnt seen any salom that alot of people have mentioned are around but have see plenty on bonnies
  10. The schools vary...couldnt tell u how many fish would be in them....I was getting them around 20 - 40m away.
  11. Happpy Australia Days Fellow Fishers. Well i woke at around 3am and got orgasnied and we headed down to Lilli Pilli Baths around 5am....settled in for the first hour and the bait fis started to do abit so out went the lure.....got a nice bonito and had a few kingies and bonito follow him back in....few more cats and the school had gone so contined to flick it in and out and then big hit and off went my new 4000 symetre and it was a nice kingy unfortunately for me was 56cm so no kingy on the BBQ today (my first landed kingy though and im stoaked!!!) Another amount of time went by and saw 2 or 3 bonnies swim past and had another go and got a nice one which went back also. Im going to have to get a boat so i can stay with them as they are only around for 10 to 15mins it seems. Nothing else exciting really, a numb ray and not alot more, although i was targeting fish on the lure. It was a very nice moring, fairly cold, crysal clear water, and flat as a tak! Hope some more of you got out any enjoyed the fishing this morning and had your aussie flags waving around proud!! Cheers, Brad

    Free Lure

Hi, Its a Timber wolf (pikey rattler) Just wondering what line class i should use this lure on....im using 10pnd mono from memory, going to be going after some pelagics most likely. Cheers, Brad
  13. Thank you mate I bled it straight away and gutted, but i had a look round and most people said it was better bait so i decied to freeze him. My mate is harassing me to do another allnighter tonight but i dont think i would last so i think i will be land based tomorrow morning trying for some tailor, bonnies, kingies and salmon...hopefully salmon and kingies.
  14. Excellent...i will save a little it of $$ and find out how much 2 or 3 different types of 4000 reels go for and i will get stuck into them
  15. The report of a dart may have been mistaken for a sweep....sorry if i got peoples hopes up. Being the the aquarium industry i tend to call the sweep a dart due to shape and the common fish collected for aquaria is tropical dart...not sweep. I would also just like to thank the fishraider community while i have the chance. You are a great bunch of people and for a newcomer to serious fishing its great to have people to speak to, go fishing with, your socials seem great!! I couldnt recomend this site any higher and its a tribute to every person who posts a message on here. Hopefully as time goes on i will meet alot of you and we will have some great fishing!!
  16. Anyone heading out port hacking Thursday night or Friday morning?
  17. Thanks flattieman. I have the 4000 shimano slade on one of my rods and like it....for the pelagic fish i am thinkng of maybe the next class up from them....not sure of the name of it though, i will ask. Thank you for the info mate!
  18. I will try and get a picture of the dart...im pretty sure its a dart. Yeh it was a trumpeter, cool looking fish. I ended up freezing the bonnie and will use it as bait at a later date when i get the gear t use that sort of fish as bait. I also froze 3 nice sized squid for bait also. Hopefully I will be down the pontoon friday morning or down lilli pilli baths friday morning and possibly an all nighter there on thursday night to friday morning...few nice cold beers and a mate or two. so if anyone is there say hi! Im going to have to get another rod i guess seening as though i have become addicted to wanting these fighting fish on the end of the line....whats the suggested? It would be from boat eventually and land...so proably a 7 or 8 ft rod and a 4000 or 6000 reel? will be lure and bait fishing
  19. Thank you for the support guys I have always caught dart at this spot...but generally on overcast days, have had a few biggies about 2 or 3 years ago which was nice. Also i caught a fish last night that reminded me of a butter bream from the tropics. It was a goldish bronze with lateral stripes from memory, it also made a funny croaking noise....any ideas? I dont have any photos of when i was down there we forgot the camera, for the kingies one hit gold lure and the other my standard fresh prawn on leader and swivel. I wasnt expecting to get anything that sort of size...so i rigged up the smaller rod which was a bad idea!...if he had of hit the lure and stuck i would have had him because its 10pnd line but he hit my prawn which was on 4pnd which was for bream, etc. I am looking foward to trying the bonnie tonight, and i now have 1 thumper and 2 good size squid in freezer for strip bait if i need it...fresh is better! but i didnt have the time to use it and i didnt know how to organise them for human consumption or i would have. i really enjouyed the lure fishing, the fish hit hard and its a real rush getting them....cant wait to try it again and hopefully i can get some to stick...well atleast find some first and then hope they stick!! As for the pontoon i dont know if its great or not...i just have fished there for a long time and know it fairly well, others do nothing down there. The only thing that annoys me is the snaggy bottom which i get stuck on sometimes. anyway thank you for your support and i hope to meet and learn from you guys shortly
  20. Hi, Got home from work and organised the girlfriend for an all nighter down the family boatshed/pontoon. we took 4 rods, 2 lures, squid jig and some chicken gut/fresh prawns. I started off with going after the squid and after a couple of casts and retrieves i was hit like a steam train....i pulled it in and it was a massive squid, havnt measured it but i would say its easy 28 to 35cm long and the one that followed it up was atleast 2/3 bigger!!! I continued to go after a few more and net some small ones going past and threw the small ones out on a bait caster and a decent size hook ( havnt done it before so proably the reason no fish were caught on it) Anyway while i left that to sit out in the bay for the night i continued to watch cool little fish go past. I caught an eel around 11pm which was not very round but i decent length or around 40cm. this was followed by a dart, just under legal size pinky snapper and not alot else. My girlfriend by this stage was asleep and not helping So i decided to kick back and have a sleep and hope for the best with the rods in. Woke up around 5am and found that my baitcaster had been busted off so i decided to put a lure on a smaller rod and try for some pelagic species...which i was hoping would start to show their face around sunrise....after about 20casts i got a hit!! (sweet i thought, i can catch fish on lures as i never had before) He got off so i tried same spot again and got another big hit, i brought him in and saw a flash and he let go....not very happy at this stage i did it again and gave the next bite a big wack and pulled in a 30cm tailor. Impressed withmyself but not liking the species of fish i tried again...this time the prawn that i had got nailed and i saw a nice big flash and roughly a 60cm kingy under the pontoon....me being inexperienced but knowing i should let him run threw that idea out the window and grabbed line and rod and tried to musle him to surface and bag him....the 4pnd line didnt like this and he got away!! (i am very angry and want another one now) no more action the fish had gone...about 20mins later i got one solitary hit on the lure and this one stuck, it was a nice bonito around 45cm...great looking fish and i landed him which made my morning! I cant wait to start getting these fish on a regular basis because they are great fun and the way they hit the lures is great!! I think i will need to go up a class in gear strength though incase i hit something bigger! Any info is appreciated on what to do and replies please! Im hopefully going to lilli pilli baths early friday morning to try there for them and maybe an all nighter thursday night there....not sure yet (weather!!) Thank you also whats the best way to cook the Bonnie?? any recepies?
  21. Hey guys and gals Anyone else heard about the great white attack down the south coast of NSW?
  22. its private property mate...Grandparents place. There are a few good places around....what are you trying to catch? If you want Flatties, whiting, flounder or bream then try Grays Point Either right of the boat ramp or you go down grays point road and there is a parking area and you can walk out on the sand flats at low tide and work the channel. I havnt caught i flatty here but i know they are there, guy next to me caught a nice one off my berley trail the other week. I have picked up all legal size whiting..not a single throw away and had some nice hits without a hook up. Wallys warf is in a weird position, i would try there early morning in about 2 months So...what do i need to fish at night
