Longy goes off. Boated easily 20 kings mostly between 60 and 64. A few smaller ones and 1 keeper at 66. In the end I had to fish just one rod. Conditions were a bit hows your father but when you hear that sweet sound of line being ripped out of your reel it is hard to head in. Early on I was getting kings at a ratio of 5:1 on lures over whole squid that did reverse when I switched to whole garfish. Caught kings on all 3 rods 20lb braid on the Nitro, 20lb braid on the TLD15 and 30lb mono on the TLD 25. Had a fantastic time. Good to see such a good roll up of yaks. I think the yaks out did the boats today. I have braid cuts on my fingers, lost a few jig heads plastics a lure and a rule (I forgive you SBD) But did I have a good time? HELL YEAH! I will go to sleep tonight with a smile on my dial and the sound of peeling line and screaming drag in my ears. Yep I am stoked. Cheers Wigg PS It was good to meet you they other day Tony at your shop. The Williamson bib worked with the whole gar fish but i think the assist hook need to be longer. I failed to hook up with the squid. I would have loved to have that 643 out there (one day) Cheers

I have recently bought the magnum butt and a stradic 4000 with 20lb braid. Awesome outfit I love it. I have been bricked by a few kings at Long Reef but that is to be expected when fishing in 12m of water. I chose it over the viper cause I wanted to flick lightly weighted plastics and let it drift thru the water column. I thought it might be a bit better for fishing for reds too. Just my 2c worth. Woke up this morning but I couldnt hear any wind. I layed there for a while. Nope definately no wind, so I went downstairs jumped on the net and checked a few sites and a few cams. Maybe the weather man got it wrong, I thought it was supposed to be windy this morning. What the hell I thought I will hit Longy. Got there and it didnt look too bad. Small swell but a bit of chop. I thought I am here now may as well go out. I packed light, 3 rods and a couple of packets of plastics. Trolled out into an increasing noreaster. No surface action at all. Just as I was getting to my first spot the 8lb out fit screams under protest zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz By the time I turned around and picked up the rod the pink mono backing was showing in parts. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Before I new it the backing was heading out thru the guides and TWANG. Gone. Bugger. Retied another pre made kit on and off again. This time I must have let too much line out so the next hit I didnt even get the rod out of the holder. TWANG. Gone again. Spent the next half hour setting myself in the right position to drift the best line across my spot. Next hit was on the new Nitro with 15lb.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz Yeah baby into a good fish. As I was admiring the nice working curve in the new Nitro TWANG. Bugger reefed again. Now I am dirty, 3 plastics with new heads gone in a flash. Re rigged agian and trolled around for about an hour while watching a pro pull in a few undersized kings. By 8am the wind was slowwing right down and conditions were very nice. Over the next 2 hours I boated 5 undersize kings between 55 and 63. Had a bit of fun. I have to say the kings at Longy pull harder than what I have seen at Clovelly. Just before I was ready to head in another pro pulls up and sets his lines. I get a good hit hit and call it for another rat. But this time to ny surprise I boat a 56cm Trev. A new PB. The pro gives me the thumbs up and we have a bit of a chat. Headed in but no more hits on the way home. All in all a fun little morning. Cheers Wigg

I had a similar problem this morning. Thousands of kings under my kayak but the wouldnt touch squid, pillies, gar or lures. Drove me crazy. At times the screen on the sounder was almost totally black. Dropped a decent Red too. Looks like it will be spaghetti for dinner. Cheers Wigg
