  1. Hi Raiders I've been getting into drummer fishing and would like to get into luderick too. But is it possible to have a hook size that can hook into both? Drummer im using a 2/0 or 3/0, but luderick seem to be a size 8-10. I'm just using the weed flies at the moment so they come pre rigged at that size. I've been told drummer are pretty rare inside the harbour? Is this true? I'm fishing around manly/mosman. Cheers!
  2. Most wharfs should be ok? A few spots north sydney or milsons pt. Clarkes point is also flat but there is a bit of a hill going into it. Would need someone to help push or tackle it slowly. Hope you have fun !
  3. anyone tried rigging those squid chasebaits under a float before? maybe with a bit of scent on em too..
  4. I might try again this weekend. Anyone fish with floats in the harbour? How deep are you setting your bait from the surface for kings? I've been doing about 1.5m
  5. Hmmm. How odd. I've always thought fish don't like it when it's too clear as well
  6. Yeah went on sat and it was completely shut down. Surprised it's still dead though, I was thinking maybe it was the dirty water from all the rain last week.
  7. Why's that? You'd want to get the burley off the surface I'd think, in case it doesn't sink well. You want it as close to the bait as possible Have you ever thought if using the cage on your livey rig too?
  8. See attachment for an image. We already read about how important berley is, especially off the rocks, and you see people carrying bags of stuff in with them. However if you are casting out wide the berley is less effective, and the current can often make your berley trail hard to manage. Recently i've started float fishing as a way of avoiding a lot of the pickers and found it working alright, definitely avoiding the pickers anyway. I was thinking why dont more people do this but attach a berley cage to under their float? Its off the bottom so the pickers usually wont get at it, plus it slowly self-berleys as it drifts through the water, broadcasting itself a much farther radius. Thoughts? Anyone tried this?
  9. wow thats incredible! do you spot schools of fish from your front door and just go cast slugs at them? thats my dream haha
  10. would you go before during or after the big swell? maybe before and after 😁 seabreeeze reckons itll be decent on saturday but dies down on sunday. mid north coast has fair seas for the next few days it seems
  11. Noticed some big swell this weekend, you reckon fish will be more active in the harbour where its protected? I was thinking about fishing on saturday morning, or maybe i might wait til after the storm on Sunday, maybe there will be more food washed off the rocks by then. What do you guys reckon?
  12. Hi Guys, Wanted to clarify something. Is it legal to fish hyams beach or is it within the sanctuary zone? I see a few reports from there but the DPI chart *looks* like its a sanctuary zone? But it might be also suggesting that its okay to fish from the shore? I see a tiny sliver of non-pink https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/683626/Map-jervis-bay.pdf Cheers
  13. i think it depends a lot on how you are casting it. if you are just releasing at your feet then lip is likely fine, otherwise pinned in the back i find makes them more durable to cast out a bit
  14. Might give it a go if in struggling for bait one day. Been wanting to try out procure as well. Will combine the two! Cheers mate.
  15. bloody hell. that monster took a WORM?! here i am thinking they took slabs of salmon fillet
  16. thats quite interesting cos many take the skin off their squid because they believe the white flesh is more visible!
  17. yep am aware, will need to check carefully before I use it. cheers
  18. I've seen frozen squid tubes like this in the shops: https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/hanabi-frozen-squid-tubes-u7 and fresh stuff like: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/15639/baby-octopus-cleaned Has anyone tried using them as bait? Any luck? I've read that a lot of 'fresh' seafood has actually been frozen on the boat and then thawed in the supermarket. So frozen seafood is actually the same as fresh seafood but hasnt been unthawed. Have seen a lot of forum posts about prawns but not much about squid/octopus. PS By comparison fresh squid at my tackle shop is $45/kg! Good for some sessions but when im going down for a casual flick feels like a waste.
  19. what would be a typical price for this boat? ive been keeping an eye out for boats recently and have seen smaller boats than this go for at least 20k??
  20. Interesting, thanks guys. 4.8m bowrider would be great but unfortunately they all look about $25k+. I am looking at something more modest for the harbour, so probably will look at runabouts or centre/side consoles which seem to go for quite a bit cheaper How is the learning curve for your first boat?
  21. Curious to hear peoples' stories as its something that is tempting me more and more. Would love a 4.5ish bowrider that could double as a fishing boat and a social boat with non fisho friends.
