  1. Oh god. I hate those things. Unsettling looking things. https://www.google.com.au/search?q=green+moray+eel&rlz=1C1CHFX_enAU668AU668&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwil5NS4gsjXAhUPtJQKHcuHCDMQ_AUICigB&biw=1680&bih=919 Apparently they are good eating. Someone told me people from the pacific islands go out and intentionally catch em to eat. Not sure how it is prepared though
  2. cheers. might give that a go next time. can you freeze them after you buy them or do you have to use it fresh close to when you bought it? when i leave in the early AM its hard to get to open shops

    FAD Update

never fished a FAD before but would I be correct in assuming it gets packed? every fisho with a boat must be trolling around there on the weekens?
  7. It's a shame but I feel like the boating industry really need to get younger people on board, especially people who werent around boats in their youth. Finding info on buying a first boat or how to get into it isn't exactly easy. Same could be said for fishing. I learnt it from my dad but my friends who didnt have that influence struggle to learn much fishing info. So much jargon and conflicting advice makes it hard for newbies...
  8. Yeah I've got the kastking blackhawk. It's good. There's a good review of it on YT. Ish with fish
  9. anyone know what the agenda for this will be? all theory or do we go out for a walk? anyone been to something similar in the past? cheers
  10. Cheers. I'll try to get etc some poddy mullet while I'm there. Live bait a bit Are there large fish this deep into the system? Is there any point throwing about metals or 12cm shallow xraps? Or just soak a bait and hope for some bream
  11. Hi Guys Going to Berowra Waters for the long weekend with friends. Will be there from Sat to Mon and the house has its own little pier and tinnie. Hoping to get a fair amount of fishing in. Some questions. Do metals work in this part of the river? I assume the water is still pretty cold so dont really fancy my chances - should i even try? Whats a reasonable jig head size for plastics? Smallest i have is 1/8th I think. I got my zmans in motor oil and bloodworm which seemed to be recommended on a few sites. Hoping they do the damage plus ill get some squid, prawn and pillies too. Cheers
  12. Awesome, thanks guys. Really helpful but probably still eaves me in semi analysis paralysis! Will keep an eye out for good deal and refer to this thread in the future. Thanks again
  13. I've been thinking about buying a boat recently but have been having trouble understanding what is required to get offshore on a good day. From watching youtube videos online it seems like it can be quite flat offshore, so you could get away with a modest boat. I'd be looking for a trailer boat that could fit 3 or 4. Would be nice if it could fit 2 wives/gfs without a steep jump in price. I was looking at bowriders for this purpose but it seems like they can be impractical to drive far in them. I'd be looking at second hand and spending less than 15k if possible. What kind of models/years would i be looking at? What would be the resale be like if i kept it for 5 years? Cheers
  14. Thankfully we are going on Sunday haha. It's expected to die down by then.. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the help so far
  15. Hiring a bbq pontoon this weekend with some friends and planning on soaking a line. Considering water temperature these days though it's been hard going in the harbour. I can only imagine its going to be tough going in the georges as well. Any tips for landing a few in the cold august water? Cheers
  16. syd harbour has been pretty quiet for me the last few months. seem to remember more of them a few years ago. alas..
  17. i was out this weekend too but in the harbour. does seem very quiet. had a similar experience to you.. wonder if at this time of year i shoud find a new hobby haha good report!
  18. Yep i have a shimano raider but it can only cast up to 30g. My sea rocks are 60g so that'll be too much for it. I recently got a kast king travel rod that i want to try out. It's technically rated at 3/4oz but based off reviews ive seen online it should handle 2oz. Sounds like rod wise the ideal setup would be a 7ft rod that can hurl jigs up to 100g
  19. Beautiful! sounds like my river2sea sea rock are probably closer to slow jigs then... i might give them a try this weekend. will look into the other shapes out there what tackle are you guys using for shore jigging? are you using specialised rods or just longer spinning rods? im gonna try on a 4-7kg 10ft spinning rod and see how i go. hope i dont snap the rod or myself in half
  20. pool noodle wrapped around the rod is a good idea. i was just using pvc pipe before.. nice.
  21. Hi Guys I've been reading about shore jigging on a few pages and wanted to clarify something. Is it actually any different from spinning with halco twistys (and the life) from shore? The only difference i've seen are: 1. the shore jigs have a single hook at the head of the jig, usually attached with some cord. twistys have a treble at the back 2. some of the shore jigs get quite heavy (100g +) 3. the shore kigs are painted more like fish and have a shape more like a stickbait than a slice Is anyone successfully "shore jigging" from the rocks here?
  22. Funnily enough my mela and blackhawk just arrived. The 400 mela is more like a 2000 shimano. Little bit disappointing. Looking forward to putting them through their paces. Blackhawk has good reviews on YT. Very keen to try this.
