Jon, that "Bearded cod" do you think it's a Largemouth Beardie Lotella rhacina.
Because it's fricken huge, i've seen them up to just under a kilo but the one in the photo looks much bigger.
Also, great array of fish there.
-
Mate, Kudos to you again showing how its done.
-
Mate sorry to hear that, hope you have a speedy recovery.
-
What a unusual catch there Jamie.
Great work.
-
We got some small Taylor and Slimies in 50mts a couple of weeks ago.
Certainly unusual.
-
Can,t agree more Sratchie, just trying to understand what motivates people to do something like that.
Greed.
-
Yes you have a Rough Leatherjacket.
I prefer just fried whole after cleaning.
As for the LFP, most just use them for bait.
-
Female Crimson Banded Wrasse Notolabrus gymnogenis.
-
I thought they looked like Flathead.
Some looked like they've been filleted just behind the rib cage.
-
Mate I'd take a guess and say the Buddhists released them as they all seem the same size.
Thats my guess anyway.
-
I'g also call that a Blue Throat Wrasse. Notolabrus tetricus
I think I remember Vladd and Ben got them in the harbour a few years ago Jamie.

I'm with NaCIH20K9 on this it could only be one of the two,
aletta samifasciata Blue Weed WhitingorNeoodax balteatus. Rock/Weed WhitingMy guess would be the same as yours, Little Weed/Rock Whiting with my reason, the Blue Weed Whiting has more of a Whiting head than a Rock/Weed Whiting and the fish in question doesn't show that character. So Weed/Rock Whiting it is for me. -
But which one? Forgetting the other wrasses....
Well it's not a siphonognathus so that's 6 ruled out.
Not a Herring Cale ( convex tail)
Not rainbow Cale.
So.. 4 left...
Could be female) juvenile. Blue weed fish, haletta samifasciata
Neoodax balteatus ( little weed or little Rock whiting)
I need to search more on the missing 2 species. School night though.

What NaCIH20K9 said.
Couldn't agree more mate.

If I had to have a guess I would say Juvenile Spangled Emperor to, face is very pale and starting to develop the Blue spots on the flank.
Plus far more common down that next of the woods than a Grassy.
Still happy to be wrong though.
-
Where was the catch location, generally speaking.
-
Buggar, committed to another outing. Leaving from Water st, to.
Good luck Lads.
-
Fricken awesome Neil, Mans alive when he sees those.
-
Geeez what a buggar, trying to catch Snapper. Bloody Jewys and Pearlies getting in the way.
Very nice fish.
-
Great report with a mixed bag of species of fish as well, makes enjoyable reading from cold Sydney.
I'd agree with you on those Tuskies, They pull bloody hard and taste bloody good to I recon.
Pity about the Barra but you can't do much about the the season that just passed and the lack of rain, I suppose its gives you another reason to go back, mind you by the look of it I bet there's plenty of reasons to go back.
The Trevally species your not sure about I recon it's a Cale Cale/ Longraker Trevally Ulna mentalist.
Thanks for the report.
-
It's like a Juvenile Bludger trevally then but no spots. ?????
-
Sounds like a great road trip was had, plus having a fish as well.
Anyway my guess on the fish,
The first .... what I call a Wire netting Cod Epinephelus merra (though there's plenty of common names.)
Second Moses Perch/Snapper/ Fingermark Bream Lutjanus russellii
Third I recon is a Silver trevally Pseudocaranx georginus

Awesome photos, great bit of Australian country.
Thanks.

Was a tad cold out there hey DB, but were rewarded.
Big pod of Dolphins near Jibbon Bommie on the way back in on Monday we saw with a Seal mixed in with them.
I think the Dolphins were herding bait fish as they seemed to be on a mission, lot of tail slapping action to.
Country photos for the city folk.

Love the photos, they remind me of a story Rod Harrison wrote, something like "In Pattersons Footsteps" great read it was. Old school stuff, in a simpler time.
Thanks mate.
