Cool photos Waz.
-
It's most properly a Bream.
-
Seeing as NaCIH2OK9 has had a go, I'll have a guess, note guess, Striate Anglerfish"Antennarius striates
Thats if those bumps over the skin are filaments.
-
Shall we send it to the museum - they used to help us with ID before
That would be great.
-
Its a type of angler fish missing its lure. Not sure what type of angler fish though.
Pretty sure its lure is there, seen in both shots as the little cream protrusion at the front of its head.
I don't think its a Frogfish either Swordy.
With 25 plus different Anglerfish in OZ and they change colours to match surroundings with Black common.
As a example here's a photo of "Striate Anglerfish" and you can see the colour variation in the same species (from the "Australian Museum")
With so little written about them I'm at a loss.
I hope it is a Painted Anglerfish there NaCIH2OK9.
But for me I'm at a loss but I'd still love to know which one it is.

shits creek
A place where no motorised vessels are allowed.
As a matter of fact Canoes only and wire ones at that.
-
Couple of glasses of Wine last night so not concentrating, but "Still a no eye Deer"
I'll have a better look this afternoon when I get home from work.
Though, I recon it would be a Raider record for the fish.
-
WOA !!!!!!!! Awesome.
I'm like a Blind Deer ...... A No_Eye- Deer
Maybe some sort of HandFish/ Anglerfish.
Never seen one and would like to know.

I get to fish a remote part of the Kimberleys a bit, so there's no official names to smaller tributaries and bays so they have their own unique name, all with a story behind them.
And so we have ... Poo Beach, Dick Doc Creek, Mud Bay, Coke Can creek, Bat creek, Warrens Arm, Fire Island and so on.
Plenty of others but pretty plain.

I think they've got a professional fishing industry for Cobblers in Lake Argyle which is over that way.
Well there you go.
Thanks Swordie.
-
I've always called it a Estuary Catfish, but I've just noted it's sometimes called a Estuary Cobbler Cnidoglanis macrocephalus.
-
Sorry Scratchie.
Happy to be wrong.

I recon ... though I could be mistaken.
I recon its a Yellowtail Barracuda Sphyraena obusata . I call it a Sea Pike, plus they have a few other common names. Note the Smaller Dorsal and Anal fins and are rounder (cylindrical) than the Longfin Pike. The stripe is also just above the Pectorial fin where the L/F Pike is higher.
Certainly not as common as Longfin Pike, but have caught them in Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay also up the Barrier reef.

I stand corrected if thats the case
The fish with the black spot is a moses perch Lutjanus russellii Nice bigeye!!
I stand corrected if thats the case.
-
Geeez your Missus came up with a great idea.
Nice Big Eye on the light gear to.
That fish in the Middle I recon is a Blackspot Snapper Lutjanus Ehrenbergii
-
Male, Crimson Banded Wrasse. Notolabrus gymnogenis.

Does anyone know what the legal size for pike (snook, short-fin sea pike) is?
I'm guessing you caught this fish in Sydney, now it would be unlikely to be a Short-fin Sea pike (Snook) Sphyraena novaehollandiae.
More likely it would be a Longfin Pike, (Dinolestes lewini) the most common one around and I believe this is the one every one is talking about.
You may have caught a Striped Sea Pike (Sphyraena obtusata) many other common names for this critter, certain not as common and a lot skinnier with stripes along its body.
Matter of fact I caught a one of these in Sydney harbour only a couple of weeks ago but I would guess it would not weigh much over 400 grms even though it was a long fish.
Now this is my 2 cents worth, without a photo hard to ID correctly. Anything is possible.
BF.

I would guess Perchs fish is a http://australianmuseum.net.au/largetooth-beardie-lotella-rhacina
Ling/ Beardy etc.
OK if you can get them big enough.
-
Nice Dory.
-
Looking forward to your report when you return.
Good luck and good weather.
-
I'm pretty sure Vladd and Ben F have got them in the Harbour as well.
There's every chance of it Blackfish, wouldn't be the first time I've thought of it.
I can believe a Blue Throat may have swum to the harbour, but not the Barramundi that have turned up here alsoAnd there was the 2 Coral Trout taken as well. Positively ID'ed.
-
It looks like a bullrout to me
I would guess the same.
MMMMM is this the Jamie-s I know. Large Rough Jacket Jamie-S
-
I'm with Jamie-S, definitely a Blue Throat Wrasse, but I would Guess the Buddists may have something to do with it being here.
