My Guess..........Eastern Frogfish.
Their Tassels dont show out of water as they stick to their skin.
Have a look at the last photo on the page.

Hi there Roberta, I reckon thats a Striped/Banded Scat
http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfact...sh/smultifa.htm
You will see the fish in the picture(at amonline) has its Dorsal folded back.
Unusual critter, also has poison spines, mind you they look like something to be wary of.

I reckon its a Butterfly Perch, have a look at the last photo on the page and you can see the spots better

Out of interest (and certainly not looking for an argument...)
What's wrong with keeping a shovel nose shark and port jackson? They're not protected are they?
Obviously keeping them when he's not going to eat them is flaming stupid - but it sounds like you abused him before hearing of his plans....
Mike
Both species are certainly not endangered, but to kill them just to take a photo you could do that in the boat , get a better, more interesting photo and then let them go.......... sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
as for the idiots down there, suggest contact waterways and let them know, hopefully they will come down.
The Bas@$#ts will cry blue murder ,serves them right.

looks like the sun rising has illuminated virga falling from middle level alto cumulus/stratus..
MMMMMMMM, I was thinking the same............NOT.
To me ,more like a bit of Redish, Greyish, Blueish pretty sky.
Thanks for the info there "Moonset"
You know what they say: red sky at morn - sailor's be warned!
Thought I'd never say this but, thank goodness I went to work then

Arrr teaching the dark art hey. Best wormers I've seen were the Koori's around Crescent and Hat Head, made me look like a dill, mmmmmmm that didn't take much though.
When I was younger used to go on holidays up the coast with my young step brother plus my mate and his 2 kids. Spent many hours chasing worms, with the kids and having a great time in the process. Fun way to spend a few hours.
Fond memories.
But as Ray R said, geeez you can get burnt if your not careful. Missus ended up with sun stroke once and was really crook for a few days.
There's still a few up around your way Ray we chase in Summer, though sometimes they make me go

I dont believe Oyster Toadfish are found in Australia.

Try
http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/index.cfm
Then in the little "SEARCH THE SITE" window on the Left hand side type in Trevally.
A big list of names will come up to give you a indication of some that are found in Oz
My votes to on a Silver to... their head gets a good scoop on the bigger ones ,bit like a Black Trevally
Caranx lugubris Poey not a Spine foot/Rabbit fish also called a Black trevally.

Great work there catching those fish and taking the Kids fishing.
The two common Dominators in those photos of the kids are,
1) Fish.
2) Big smiley faces.
Must be a message there.

That sounds like you guys had a great day ,congratulations.
Good to see a few fin still floating around.

One very interesting issue arose during the morning. I was using my spin rod with 4kg braid and a 2.5kg mono trace. He was using regular blue fishing line and outdoing me 2 to 1. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is the braid too visible for fishing floaters in fairly clear water? It was definitely a significant difference, he slayed me. Or is it just the young bull and the old bull story all over again.
Great work there Hutcho, sounds like great day to me.
As for the line it could have been the different aspects of where the line was floating i.e.. because of the different thickness and properties of the line the bait could have ended up in a different spot or presented the bait in a different spot because you were using floaters.........

Found a half dead Giant Hearing washed up at Patonga many years ago and a mate found one up at Woy Woy in the same condition along time ago also ,both times in winter. Certainly a possibility there Offchops.
Shame it got away,

Just before I left for work the other morning ,looking out the back the Sky was certainly a bit different . I grabbed the camera and took this photo. It changed in a couple of minutes and by the time i got inside the color had nearly gone, so it was a matter of being there for those few minutes.
Geee I love that time of the day.

Good luck there Nathan, looking foward to a report when you get back.

Well if you want my opinion..............
I'll just go and ask my wife

I've looked at a few old Raider reports and found that you can get amberjack around Sydney.
They sure fight hard. Pound for pound I'd say they are as tough, or ever tougher than the kingies.
Cheers
I have seen Amberjack,Sampson and Almaco Jacks caught around Sydney. More of a bycatch than a targeted fish and yes the buggers certainly go.
The Sydney Harbour charter operators get a few at certain times.
