  1. Mate I feel for you. I to pulled many late nights banging around in a boat targeting the monster jews. Over 5 years ago I pinned one that went 34kg at Juno point on a live Tailor. After that I said im done and haven't targeted them since.....
  2. Hey mate I probably saw you out there as we stopped by longy and tried with live baits and plastics. Also fished 2 pinnacles and 3 wrecks that were full to the brim with rats the week before and only managed one flatty that took a jig. I could not believe how baron the sounder was all day. The lovely bum steer from SeaBreeze with the light SE wind didn't help much either. Bad luck on the near spooling hopefully the fish and light winds will be around next weekend. Cheers
  3. Hey Mate Sorry for the late reply. Its called a wild Wiesel I think 2-6kg 1 piece. So far so good handled reds up to 5kg its not a big fan a kings tho. Haha. Cheers
  4. Yeah mate holding on the bottom in about 21m of water. Got most of the fish on a squidy shrimp in brown. Cheers
  5. Hi Raiders Went out last Sunday for a flick to test the new 2500 Certate that finally arrived. Managed to find some decent snapper about 100 meters SE of Trawleys reef with biggest going just on 60cm. We then tried out the front of Bangalay head which was dead bar micro kings and some big acres on sounder which didn't want to play. Found a big school of slimies NE of Newport reef that had some small kings on them along with pike and reefies. We moved in closer to find an angry pack of rat to just legal kings getting around just out the front of the washes in 4-10m of water Having pinned a few on plastics and had some larger units follow up we tried live baits but the rats were so ferocious they were getting slammed seconds from hitting the water. Got a 130cm one on a live salmon not that long ago think I will give that a crack next time. The wind came up so we headed back to the ramp. Good luck this weekend everyone !!
  6. That sucks mate ! I quite literally practice tying knots at my desk at work and in front of the tv at home. My wife hates the bits of braid and leader scattered around the house. Loosing a fish to a busted knot has given me many sleepless nights. Commiserations
  7. Sorry mate Got marks on my phone. There should be a 33 in front of other south co ords. Cheers
  8. Hey Mate Was out on Sunday fishing longy wide but for snapper. You aint gonna get many kings out there you get a few and big Samson fish lately at times but its mainly snapper and flathead. Its gravel and low reef bottom. If you want kings try the ground from manly beach to longy reef know as fowl ground. Got 7 or so kings as bye catch flicking for snapper in there on sunday biggest being bout 80 got smoked twice as 2500 reel aint made for those tackle busters. There is a lot of up and down ground there creating heaps of up welling's (with current). Try Here S 46.600 E151 19.096 and the surrounding areas. If you can be bothered looking around there is some great ground off north narrabeen to. Strait out in front of manly is good at about 30m of water and the bower can get some big units. Hope this helps. Cheers
  9. If your boat and guts are up to it I suggest you drive strait though Pittwater and out to east reef bommie or south Avalon head. They are pretty thick at the moment. Good work on the squid. Cheers
  10. Yeah mate I used to pin heaps of them from my wharf when I lived there. Lost a lot of good kings to little whalers saw some big Bulls Sharks to, like 3.5m plus. Cheers
  11. Hi Jim I to have found tangled with this dilemma. After substantial testing of probably more than 30 knots I found the Palomar knot to be the strongest with mono going a full 100% with the line breaking before knot. With fluro it was bout 90%. The improved clinch was great as well. There is a down side I found to having to stronger knots though. when you get snagged the braid has a tendency to break at any weak point as knots don't let go and if that happens to be 2m from the surface with 20m of line to where you are snagged it gets expensive. Check out a show on youtube called KNOT WARS. Cheers Sean
  12. That's painful mate I've had many a perfect day ruined by jackets ! When their under the boat its the only time I've considered dynamite fishing. Better luck next time.
  13. Load tested uni knot it fails at 60% breaking strain with fluro. Never tried blood knot I will have to give it a go, don't give it much of a chance as it doesn't pass through the hook eye twice. I think its my own stupid fault for fishing 10-15 pound leader to bring in 6-8kg fish. Fluro dose get more bites so I'm just gonna have to deal. Cheers
  14. Hi Raiders Fished in close with plastics early Saturday morning managing to pin a few half descent snapper in the washes, reef structure and drop offs to about 15m. Mate I was fishing with got bricked by a 6-8 kg fish that refused to give up. The kings were at it again and we really had to watch the amount of action we gave the plastic as to much resulted in 2500 sized reels biting off more than they could chew. Found a mega school of yackers out the front of Macmasters beach and put a livie down next to it for nothing. Pinned a few snapper up to 2kg under it though. Carried out a little experiment to see what fished better fluorocarbon or Mono leader material with me fishing mono & mate Fluro with the same plastic and action. Well he got 4 fish I got none. This annoys me as I have lost many a good fish to fluro breaking at the knot. I even went to the extent testing different knots at home to find the best one to use on the stuff currently use Palomar knot or improved clinch. If any one knows a good fluro to use I would be happy to hear your feed back. Here is a pic of the ones we kept for the table. Most had small shell fish in their guts with ground down teeth, didn't stop them smashing plastic. Cheers
  15. I took the time to test different knots under a load tester and found the Uni knot failed at about 85% breaking strain with mono and 60% with fluro carbon (yes I lubed the knot). the strongest knots I found was the reverse clinch and the Palomar with both fluro and mono. Check out a show on youtube called Knot wars it will answer all your questions. Cheers
  16. Hey Mate Having done the dance with Pitty kings for a while (grew up Towlers Bay) I found the best ways to pin them when they are on tiny bait is. Use a small fry with strong hook unweighted and drag it over school with long scope from boat to not scare fish ( wind assist or drift is better) Tie a fly or tail end of flick bait to small surface lure use at least 1m of line behind lure. Also don't use the eyes on the lure to tie to as kings will blow them ! out run your main line throw the tie eye at front and out the back. You can just sticky tape or loop knot the main line to the front as it only has to tow micro plastic/ fly at the back and cast. You can use this technique with a metal slug as well if you take the back treble off but if they are eating micro bait this will just scare them. Get white bait and cast out unweighted with strongest hook you can hide in it into bust up. works ok if they are frothing. Best of luck
  17. Yes the red just fitted in the freezer. It like most of the fish I have been getting had small leather jackets in its guts and was taken on a leather jacket look alike plastic. Cheers
  18. Hi thefisherman6784 The biggest Sambo would have gone 80cm with heaps around the 40cm mark. Had a few that busted me off that could have been kings or bigger Sambos. Thinks its time for the heavier gear... Cheers
  19. Hi Raiders Fished a few spots between Fowl ground and 30-45M area off long reef for snapper on the plastics. Insane amount of Samson fish around which proved worrying at times fishing 10lb braid. Went back to 20lb set up and manage to land a few up to 3kg. After playing thread the needle through 4 or 5 whales swimming around found some snapper closer in out from Freshwater. Had some fun on the lighter gear with the biggest just touching 65cm. Got to hot then went home. Cheers
  20. Hi Stephanb79 I lived in Pittwater for 19yrs and spent many summers chasing timid pitty kings ! Personally I found the wreck off Clareville to hold way more yackas and long nose point and the weed beads between bells and Carrels Wharf on Scotland island better for squid. I got most of my big kings on live yakas or poppers. The western shore between Towlers Bay and the Basin at first light normally sees schools of kings camped out there smashing bait fish. If they are eating micro bait (eyes) drag a tinny fly through the school with the strongest hook you can buy them with. You have to let out heaps of line first then take a wide line past the school so you don't put them down. You could use a fly rod and say goodbye to your knuckles ! 1m king + Fly rod = Never again. There is a sunken barge out the front of eastern wharf along with assorted junk on the bottom that holds good fish and 2 wrecks in Lovett Bay also strait out from Tennis wharf there is some good angulating ground were they like to sit when the tide is running in. You could always just go past all these spots and head to east reef bommie where they are generally in plague proportions all be it rats at the moment. Hope this helps.
